Fooled By An Egg? Caleb Morgan brings his magic to the Fool Us stage! CalebMorganMagic.com Penn & Teller Fool Us Season 9 Episode 13: Chicken Trickin S9, EP 13 "Chicken Trickin"
P & T knew that because they said there was no switch. Now figure out how to do it with only one real egg and one handkerchief if there never was a fake egg. The real trick is where the hell did the handkerchief go because his hands were never out of view. Their only guess was whether that was a real cracked egg inside the glass so once that was confirmed they had no clue. Sleight of hand alone doesn't explain it either.
@@MsCartman74 Yeah, the most straightforward way to do this trick is to swap out the fake egg for a real egg. But Penn & Teller didn't see any such switch happening, and if they didn't, I'm certainly not going to either. So that's not how it was done. But... Yeah, I have no clue.
@@MsCartman74 I believe he only said that was real egg inside the glass. Might have been a fake egg half empty to store the handkerchief and half full of a real egg inside...and that's why he struggled to crack it open
@@gguery That's the only thing I can figure (not that I'm an expert; I get fooled all the time, which I don't mind at all). A real egg inside a gimmicked egg shell that allows for the kerchief to get stuffed into the top.
When he was asked “which fooled us first, the chicken or the egg?” I expected him to immediately say “the chicken”. It would have gotten a great reaction lmao
know what my favorite thing about Penn and Teller is? They live for entertainment. make them the butt of the joke, make them dance, make them look silly for your act. if it gets a laugh or a smile, they're all for it.
@@crestfallenraven Its so sad the extreme dementia both Penn and Tell have and nobody is helping them! they now dont know children grade magic show tricks! No wait OR are they just desperate to fill their terrible show with lowly hacks they dont have to pay much!
Great job man!! So proud of you dude!! You have worked so hard and been so faithful to your dream and to watch it pay off in this way is incredible! Love you man!
Your remark reminds me of a famous quote from a certain rapper, and it leaves me to believe these aren't even his relatives. they only say they are his relatives because of how successful he is.
@@TurtleMyrtle12 GREAT LOGICAL FALLACY - THE TOOL OF THE UNEDUCATED WHO HAS NOTHING VALID TO SAY! Now why are you crying is it because your suit is the same as his and you need a dental appoint is why you thought of that! 🤦♂🤣
It's always fun to see Penn upset, but the fact that Caleb seemed freaked out made it all the better; that he managed to deceive them, the cherry on the top.
Omelettin' you know, you cracked us up and left Penn and Teller shell-shocked with that eggceptional magic trick! Yolk's on them! Eggscellent job! You truly scrambled Penn and Teller's minds with that eggsquisite trick!
my guess, at 2:31, he grabs and conceals a REAL egg in his hand while presenting an especially thin bandana (of which will fold into a very small size) hanging out of his closed, seemingly "empty" hand. it is possible there is something sticky prepared on one end of the bandana to the back of the egg to make things easier, but if not, even more impressive handwork. i noticed that he's very careful to never let go of a grip near the bandana, because it's not actually safely inside the egg when he pushes the bandana into his hand, he pushes it towards the back of the egg where he can bunch the entire bandana up into a small ball as to appear like it has been stuffed into the egg by 3:34 where his index finger is holding a bunched up bandana. the egg is real the entire time. he never displayed how strong it was, he only appeared to pull the ribbon out of a "hole" on the back, which i believe he is artifically presenting as being pulled out of some kind of hole, when he is actually unfolding it from the pinched bunch it in order to make it appear like it is being stuffed inside of something, then seemingly pulling it "out" of the egg, which is really just unbunching the ribbon straight. at the end, he simply cracks the egg into the cup, which surprises those who were convinced that the egg was plastic just because he said so. very impressive performance, and nice job for fooling them!
@@jonmayer yup it appears to be entirely a power of suggestion trick. i'm actually quite amazed that it fooled them as i have trouble figuring out some seemingly simple tricks, but i guess all it took was them missing the initial egg and bandana grab. it is quite funny and impressive how he convinced Penn and Teller that there might have been a switch between a real and fake egg (Penn saying "we didn't see a switch") when there never was :P
@@deecook8393 i personally don't believe so. i think there's no hole, and that every time it *looks like* he is stuffing the bandana in the egg, he's bunching it up and pressing it against the back of the egg with a finger, and every time he "pulls it out", he's unravelling the bunch while pinching with 2 fingers as to create the illusion of a "hole" to pull the bandana out of. if you think about it, if there was a hole in a real egg, i would imagine that there might be a sign of a leaking egg, or egg matter on the bandana since it is later revealed to be a full egg with yolk inside. also he'd probably have to be incredibly careful not to further destroy the egg while performing, and by the time he cracked it, it seemed quite strong like a full real egg. the reason i believe there was no plastic egg, is because like Penn said, i saw absolutely no moment where a switch could have happened.
I think it's a fake egg, when it cracks, there is real egg and eggshell, but look at the glass, it's clearly a beaten egg. So the fake egg was made of real egg parts, but also had a hole in the back like he claimed.
Great trick. My deduction is that it is a eggshell like structure that has two parts. A sealed one with egg insides (at the bottom) and another empty with a hole that he puts the cloth in at the top. So at the end with the egg reveal, you can see that the yolk comes out runny. But yolks are proper when you crack an egg, they are not blended in the white. Hence he "stuffed" the half with egg insides from a real egg. But he also "dumped" the evidence in the glass. Hence why he said yes it is real egg in the glass, BUT theres also the fake part too!
My guess is that he had a plastic half shell with a hole in the top that went behind the real egg. Notice the way he holds the egg throughout the routine. When he cracks the egg, it seems that he palms something and keeps it covered as he grabs the handkerchief. Then when he wipes his hand with the napkin, it looks like he is ditching the half shell in the napkin.
@@nudsh the way he holds the egg makes me think there never was a fake egg, he just said there was but really knows how to fold the bandana tightly and hold it so it looks like it is completely hidden in the egg, just a good old fashion lie/misdirection and selling it really well. watch it again with this in mind. the whole time after he "pulls out" the bandana he has a finger on it to keep it secure.
Congratulations Caleb! You fooled Penn & Teller. So glad we met you last Friday! I played it over and over trying to figure out what happened to a seemingly simple trick. So cool!
Pretty sure he put a hole in a real egg and poured the egg white out pre show. When he cracked the egg in the glass, he's trying to cover it with his hand so you don't notice how very little egg white was there.
you are holding the egg with your middle finger since your index is behind the egg holding the cloth, then when grabbing with the other hands thumb you can see the index finger come into view. I am really surprised this simple trick fooled them but good on ya
My guess: It was always a real egg, made an hole, removed some white then put something(like a cut balloon) to allow the scarf partly in, but without spilling or dirtying the red scarf. He was always very careful to keep the egg up, even took extra time to pick it up. Then at the end, removed the scarf with whatever made the shield, then cracked the egg and destroyed the shell to remove any evidence. My guess :D
That is my thinking too. It was always a real egg and the red scarf did go into it. it is amazing how little space those things take up. I thought Caleb might have made an effort to make it 'look' like he made a switch to fool them but he didn't need to.
@@RevMonkey The hank was never in the egg. Watch his fingers when he pulls it from the "inside" of the egg for the last time. Watch his ring finger feed the cloth. It was his only slip up as far as I could tell.
I watch allot of Fool us and I have even caught things that Penn & Teller missed. This is one of only a handful I missed everything and even with the power of rewind and pausing I can't find the switch. I think because it doesn't exist. Doing a amateur trick on stage is never a good idea. FAKING an amateur trick is absolute genius. Caleb, amazing job. If this message is too forward feel free to delete it but please know this trick is absolute genius even if my guess is wrong, I love it.
My guess is that it is a real egg the whole time. Caleb just bunched up the bandana and make it look like it's stuffed inside the egg, when it is not inside the egg at all. The misdirection is getting P&T to look for the switch, which never happened. Great job, Caleb.
I think you're right. At the end when he pulled the bandana "out" of the egg, it looks like it was just stuck to the back and came off, not from inside the egg. The bandana is a really thin material, so you could really bunch it up and be tiny on the side of the egg
With all do respect, I don’t see how you fooled them. It was a great trick, but I think I figured it out pretty quickly. Maybe I’m wrong, but sure seems like there’s a very simple explanation
I think real egg the whole time. It was obvious he took something with the scarf. Which was the real egg and something the scarf could squeeze into since it's extremely thin. It was never a fake egg.
I am a Magician myself and a Proud Member of the All Things Magic Group! CONGRATS Caleb Morgan!!! Just watched the Video and WAY TO GO BROTHER!!! Much Love and Respect Always Bro!! :)
Real egg from start as it’s never tested.. Red bandana is then stuffed between the egg and hand., and pulled out slightly and presented as if it’s sticking out the egg..
He takes a real egg and cuts a hole in the top/side very carefully. He either keeps the membrane in the egg intact so it doesn't leak OR he drains out some of the egg and puts a temporary barrier inside the egg to seperate the guts from the handkerchief. He cracks the egg open at the end and destroys any evidence of alteration to the egg.
He squeezes it so it’s hard to tell but it looks to me like there aren’t any whites that come out of the egg. You’d be left with a yolk (or two) that would be less than half the space egg leaving enough room for a handkerchief. The membrane around the yolk would keep the handkerchief dry if put in carefully. Squeezing it at the end would look like nothing was wrong with it. If he didn’t crush it the yolk would just slip out. (I actually just tried this..clumsily and I could see how it this could totally work…I have no where near the skill set to pull it off though…lol)
@@falsnamae3511 First option is most logical IMO. He taps the egg, says it's plastic, when it isn't; it was a fully formed egg from the start. He tucks the bandana in folding patterns to minimize surface area, while gripping the egg tightly and allowing a bit of bandana to stay flapped out. In fact, I believe he may have even coated the egg with a hardening/sticky material, thus the overneeded hit on the glass to break. The brilliance of the trick is that he allows you to get ahead of him and make clear assumptions based on his amateury schtick. Nice trick Caleb, if you're reading this.
It makes me so sad to see there's no one in that audience, and it makes me so happy that you guys would keep doing this even without them. I know why they weren't there but damn that's a mark on history.
@@Vassilika1 Was it? This is the newest season, so unless they just recorded tons of acts during that period they may have just decided to nix the audience going forward for logistic reasons. It's been...12-18? months since some form of audience started back up.
I think I got it. I'm sure those fake eggs really exist and the trick on chickens is real. But what I think was done is a real egg was used while likely a cavity device was there to stuff and hide the red cloth. Basically penn and teller may have fallen for verbal distraction by hearing about false eggs. Just a guess and right or wrong its still a neat trick.
Hole popped in the egg, egg white drained with only the yolk left inside. Probably painted on a bit of wood glue to strengthen the outside a bit. Well done act though!
I like how you turned what felt like an opening trick into the real trick. Sort of lulled me and had me thinking "that's it?" Brilliant approach to this show.
probably one of the least elaborate (looking) tricks to fool them. thats the beauty of it. watching this show always has you wondering what big twist is coming, but this was subtle, that was it, and it worked.
Great act and very well done. My initial take was that P&T would not be fooled, but on the other hand it was so clean. I am not a magician but I was thinking switch, and before Pen started talking I had a hunch this fooled them. Awesome job!
I think this trick is pretty obvious. He shoved the handkerchief into a fake thumb, and from there he was able to create the illusion of pulling the handkerchief out of the egg when in reality he’s just pulling it out of his fake thumb. If there was a sticky part on the back of the egg, he could easily stick the handkerchief to the back of the egg making it appear as though it was half in and half out of the egg. I think that’s all he could’ve done to make this trick work. Actually, quite a simple trick really, I’m surprised it fooled them.
nice work caleb! I love seeing other magicians scramble the brains of Penn and teller and then watching them get boiling mad when you fool them... And we all know it's never over-easy to fool Penn and teller😁
My theory: Egg was always real. He is simply holding the bandana in place with his thumb to give the illusion of it poking out. But what I can't figure out... WHERE'D THE BANDANA GO DURING THE FIRST PART OF THE TRICK
This was so easy trick hahaha The egg yellow was inside always packed in a bag When he gets the bandana out there is a mechanism to cut the bag and the yellow egg comes out inside of the shell 😅 easy peasy trick
Don't mean to sound like a hater, but this is one of the more boring tricks I've seen on the show. The presentation was kind of bland. Ad I feel strongly he never stuffed the silk into the egg but just bunched it up very precisely on the egg's back, with a little adhesive perhaps. I don't get how P&T would miss that.
This guy has no stage presence. I’m debating to see if he gets any better or should I write Penn and Teller why they had this guy on in the first place….!?!? EDIT: Finished it and yes this has some talent but he’s so boring, I’d rather watch paint dry! 🥴🥴
I LOVE that you fooled then because I LOVE this routine! It's so simple, grounded, and honest that it makes the magic at the end so beautiful and nice. Thank you for sharing this.
It is a real egg the whole time, attached with a white pocket for the bandana. When he breaks the egg so weirdly with his whole hand, he removes the pocket, leaving only the broken egg in the glass. He hides the pocket when cleaning his hand.
You take a large hen's egg, cut off the top, put a small egg (perhaps a small chicken or even a bird's) in it, make a hole in the top that you cut off before, glue it back and there it is.
My guess: Pulled the real egg and the kerchief together at the start. There never was a "fake" egg. It was all just clever and skillful manipulation of the kerchief to make it look like he was stuffing it into the egg. In reality, he was stuffing it into his hand.
Real egg, hole cut out of it. Membrane doesn't have to be intact. In fact, I presume he intentionally got egg on his hand to wipe the handkerchief to hide the fact it already got egg on it when he stuffed it in the hole. I'm no magician or illusionist, but that solution makes sense to me. Why I suspect this is because I've seen gourmet sort of food things where they put a drink inside of a real eggshell that only has a hole large enough to put a straw through.
Ah, come on. I'm not a world famous magician and this was nothing more than a basic slight of hand to switch the eggs at the end! No fucking WAY they were even remotely impressed by that!
I am surprised this fooled them. Its one of the most basic tricks there is. Also, Allison is just not good at hosting at all. She struggles to make small talk and all her small talk is awkward and cringe fakey.
That was great! Dunno if this is right, but this is how I would do it... Get 2 eggs, Cut hole in one, and pour out egg, make hole big enough to fold a scarf. Put egg back in the shell, then use the shell from the second egg, (and some glue) to create a watertight barrier, keeping the liquid egg in the bottom half, and the top half clean and dry, and spacious enough for the bandana. Penn did ask if both the egg and shell in the glass was real, so it had to all be constructed out of egg shells... meaning wow... one wrong move, pushing the bandana in too hard (maybe why he did it quite slowly) and the whole thing would come apart in his hands literally.
I think he always has the real egg inside of the hand and he is just pretending to stuff the bandana inside it. I think the bandana can be folded very thin or can glue to itself and to the egg or something similiar. Look closely, I think at 3:36 the bandana is not inside the egg but on it.
That... sounds impossible. Making a watertight barrier inside an already cracked egg, and make it tough enough to not crack when hit against the glass first time? At that point he's doing actual real magic. 😆
To those questioning why P&T were fooled by this trick - They knew what Caleb did, this is a variation on a very old gag. But neither of them saw the way he did it. The rules are a little gray with FU, but in general with this type of trick one of them has to have seen exactly how/when the trick was done, and Penn took a chance that it was a tricked egg at the end, but Caleb said it was not, so they were left not sure exactly how Caleb had pulled the switch.
Was it maybe a real egg modified to hold the handkerchief and "sold" as a plastic egg through patter? (I'm just a spectator so I don't know if the question is overreaching).
The question was if it was real egg and eggshell in the glass. He didn't lie when he said yes, but the other half of the egg was fake and held the handkerchief. Watch him awkwardly "crush" the egg in the glass, then awkwardly pull his hand out and grab the handkerchief with his hand in a palming manner, and then when he passes the fake half of the egg to his left hand as he was "wiping" his hands clean with the towel.
@@brad2751 Yes, that was my point. He "fooled" them because technically they didn't guess the specific gag he used to fool them. It's a very gray line, I've seen them dismiss other acts where they were able to describe the general method that was used, but in this case, it seems that Penn had to guess the specific when/how the switch was done, and they decided that his guess was wrong.
@@brad2751 Yeah that's what I meant. (I mean the top half doesn't even necessarily have to be fake. Just a hollowed-out half with a membrane, or something; which is very cool in terms of verbal misdirection both during the trick and after).
Your performance was stellar, Caleb. The ONLY problem with fooling Penn & Teller at your age is this: how do you top this stunning professional achievement?!!! You're too young to retire? Well done, my friend!! So very happy for you!!
If I've got any idea close to how he did it, he won't have a problem making more magic to come back on the show. He's got an eye to go beyond the normal trick. He's skilled enough to do this? He's already got a long career set up.
@@drummerrjrj Yep. And appearing on this show, even if you don't fool P&T, often leads to increased bookings for many contestants. Continued success, Caleb! You're an engaging and clever magician.
Egg-cellent, simple foolery Caleb!!!! I'm shocked that you fooled them!! It was apparent that you never stuffed the egg and that you had adhesive on the back and simply practiced how to perfectly pretend to stuff it "in" when in fact, it was just hidden underneath the rest of the silk!! Marvelous, simplistic!! Sometimes that's the way to blow everybody's mind!!!! Kudos!!! And the egg was pulverized by your crack method so no one would really ever be digging out little shell pieces to find the sticky parts all covered with egg!!👍👍
