Day 10 began in Middleton-in-Teesdale with a walk to Low Force and High Force waterfalls. I then climbed up and over the moors to High Cup Nick before descending in to Dufton while enjoying views of the Lake District fells.

Happy memories of last year 2020 when I caught an overnight coach from Stanstead Airport to Darlington then walked to Middleton, overnight camp then onward to High Cup Nick in the mist and rain. Day two was High Cup Nick to Dufton then onward to Kirkby Stephens via B6259 to see and photograph the Pendragon Castle. Day three KS to Hardraw again to photograph the Falls, Day four Hardraw to Aysgarth more waterfalls to photograph. Day five Aysgarth to Richmond. Day six local bus to Darlington to catch the coach back to Essex. Pack weight 20kg not including camera backpack an extra 5kg. On the whole a nice relaxing hike with some great photographs to complement the holiday before returning to work until Covid started then I took early retirement at 64 years old. Now apart from local walks to do wild life photography I enjoy re-watching hiking videos like yours, Keep onHiking.

@@DeanRead Thanks mate but I realise my walking/hiking long distance trails is now behind me due to age and worn out knee joints, but earlier this year I hiked round the coast from Hunstanton to Great Yarmouth in 5 days camping on the beaches or nearby grass, saw quite a few Seals on the way and finally called a day to my Hiking Adventures round the Uk to concentrate on my nature photography in Essex. I will continue to follow the Adventurs of Guys like you that post to RU-vid to relive my Hiking Adventurs. So what is next for YOU?

I hiked this section in 2021 after walking from Darlington just to remind me of my 1979 PW. Loved every step of the Journey to Dufton, but boy oh boy was it misty at High Cup Nick. Now in April 2023 and 3 monnths til retirement I may go back once I am retired and really take my time and take more Photographs/Videos. Tony in Essex

@@DeanRead One Month until Retirement Day on 2nd July 2023, Rucksack/Backpack sitting near me all ready .... just hope for some decent Weather. but I am thinking maybe 66 yrs old is not the best time to restart Long Distance Hiking. Just over 30 yrs since I last did a Long Distance Hike... let me know your thoughts. At least if I did it again my digital camera would be better than the Original 35mm Film camera I used way back in the 1980s. Tony in Essex.

@@DeanRead Just what I was thinking of doing Dean, starting July 3rd this year redo my fairly local route "The Norfolk Coastal Path" from Hunstanton to Lowestoft, which I last did 5 years ago in 5 days camping along the way, Then see how I feel at the end of it, then plan for my third trip along the C2C. If both go OK I may redo the PW for the third time, or try something NEW like a Scottish Hike? Any suggestions for the Scottish Hike? Just to recap I have already done John OGroats to Lands End in both directions, the PW twice and the C2C twice and a Circumnavigation of the whole of the GB Coastline. As a SINGLE Guy who is a non driver, so long as I can catch a train/Coach to the start and the body is willing an able, I am willing to try most wilderness style routes. Tony in Essex

So last year we followed your walk along the Roaches during a short stay in the Peak District (and a visit to Alton Towers) and this summer after a great week walking and boating in Coniston we are now in Middleton-in-Teesdale, hoping we can persuade the teenagers to do a few more walks before heading back South. Great to watch the video of this part of your walk. Thanks for sharing.

Mountain biked up High Cup Nick a few times. Starting from Dufton, up HCN, over to Cow Green Res, down to Garrigill, up to Greg's Hut, Gt Dun Fell, Lt Dun Fell, Cross Fell, descend west down to the road, then a 10 mile or so road ride back to Dufton. Just short of 50miles IIRC.

The hikes you take remind me of the terrain of the Rockies here in the U.S.A., however, the elevation reminds me of my home region of East Tennessee. A great mix of the two. I love them both. Thanks for taking us along and thank you for bearing your soul about how you feel about the challenges of the past and the present. We can all relate whether we admit to it or not. So, kudos to you for your honesty. I look forward to more wild camping with Jay and Ray and your other mates there in the Peak District.

Remarkably beautiful views of the river and its falls along the way. Must be a pleasure to have good weather during the last half of the walk. Taking care of the feet is a must as the military recommends keeping the feet as dry as possible (carry extra socks in the kit) and massage the feet and look for stress spots to which to apply plasters. Cheers until tomorrow.

Thanks for watching 👍 I used ASICS fujitrabuco trail shoes on this trek. I wear Inov8 now but it really depends on the shape of your foot. I don't think I'll wear hiking boots for anything other than winter walking in the snow now. Don't bother with goretex either, your feet will definitely get wet in trail shoes but those without goretex will dry quicker 👍

The stretch from Middleton up to the High force Hotel seemed to really drag for me (we began the day from Bowes). Maybe it was the couple of pints we had in the pub in Middleton. We stayed at the High Force Hotel that night. I think this was our 5th night since leaving Settle and I hadn't been sleeping much in the tent. I'd had another crap night and ventured out quite early to relieve the bladder only to hit a wall of midges. I then slipped and fell on the cattle grid by the bottom of the car park where we were parked up in the camper Van. The stress of little to no sleep for 5 nights, a cloud of biting beasties and pain of both legs gong through the cattle grid, brought out Charlie Borman big time. The rest of the guys missed it though as they were still sleeping off last nights beer. I picked up after that. The falls were spectacular and really lifted my mood. Its a really picturesque part of the world. You missed out on the snap in The Stag. They have the Best Corned beef pie I've ever had. Just what you need after a walk from Garrigill. We stayed at the Camp Site. Keep plodding on buddy.
