Rare footage of Pennsylvania Railroad passenger cars and a GG1 electric locomotive, shot from a moving car in 1955.
The footage is only about 20 seconds long, so I've looped it together and slowed it down frame by frame to make it easier to see. If you recognize where this was shot, please let me know in the comments.
The footage is quick and shaky, but I thought it was worth preserving as a glimpse into the past. Enjoy!

The location is Harrison, NJ - the car would have been on what is now I-280 headed towards Newark. The Crucible Steel Company of America had a large plant there served by the PRR. This would have also been the location of the "Manhattan Transfer" station (closed in 1937) where steam engines were exchanged for third-rail electric powered locomotives like the DD-1 and L5PDW prior to overhead electrification and then continued on to New York Penn Station. Today this is the location of the PATH maintenance facility and NJ Transit Hudson Yard which can still be seen from I-280. The train headed by two GG-1 locomotives and traveling the same direction as the car is on #3 track entering DOCK interlocking and about to make Newark Penn Station. The P5 and P5A Modified locomotives seen in the beginning of the film are sitting on the "0" track (today used by the PATH) which led into PRR Kearny / Meadows Yard where there was an electric locomotive maintenance facility (today is now NJT Meadows Maintenance Complex MMC) and is quite large.

You're welcome and Indecently, this would have also been the location of the "Manhattan Transfer" station (closed in 1937) where steam engines were exchanged for third-rail electric powered locomotives like the DD-1 and L5PDW prior to overhead electrification and then continued on to New York Penn Station. Today this is the location of the PATH maintenance facility and NJ Transit Hudson Yard which can still be seen from I-280. I will edit my original comment above to include this info.@@the8mmrailyard-vd6jd
