Keeping the fill aggregate/dirt region secure will be one huge challenge. The fill will be compacted more each day, from weight, regardless of how compacted it was to start. I proposed this same idea 2 days ago to get the H/way open temporarily. this is what I said. Remove collapsed area to side. Get truck and bodies out. Fill the area (street below) with dirt and debris left over from collapse and truck in gravel and dirt.. Then blacktop over compacted dirt. Shore up the side that has been Compromised with I beams. Open road to traffic. Take about 8 to10 days working 24 hours. You also set in motion getting new girders to site, once ready on side streets or other staging area, replace the overpass starting on a weekend. You wind up losing the street under I 95 for 6 weeks or so. So what?? Better to detour that street then I 95 for months while you get I beams and everything else you need from wherever to Philadelphia. Only difference is, they took the south bound section down too, my plan was faster and just brace it up. This works too.

If the federal government is paying get construction workers from neighboring states and just do it right. Nobody actually knows if this will work because it's never been done before. Not fer nuthin' but this game plan has been used many times over the years. I bet they have traffic flowing on 95 in 2-4 weeks. The temporary fix will cost a lot more in the long run, but if the Federal Government is covering the cost, probably because the Governor is a Democrat, go for it. It’ll help his re-election campaign to get it done quicker, and win votes for Federal elections for the Democrats because the Feds. are paying for it…a win win situation, I doubt it if the Governor was a Republican, they’d pay, they’d say run busses, stager employment hours, some come in earlier, some later. Fixing it permanently won’t take that much longer, and with the quick fix, there will still be heavy traffic.

It looks to me Jimmy that you can't see the bigger picture. You seem to think this I 95 is simply for Philadelphians with your suggestion of staggering employment, bussing, etc.Any idea what that gap in I 95 is also costing the east coast from Florida To Main and the USA as a whole every day?? The loss in commerce in just one week can cover the "temporary" repair offsetting by far the cost of temporary repairs. Traffic was backed up over 7 miles on detour streets for I 95. Your comment there will still be heavy traffic where there "always" was heavy traffic is ridiculous. It will be slowed because they will start the permanent repair right away. When were you ever on a major H/Way where work is being done and traffic was not slowed??! Do you think the 7 miles or more of backed up traffic has any effect on Fire and other first responders in the City? I 95 opened sooner then later is a must so RELAX.....In any case, I would rather see the money wasted here in the USA then sent to the Ukraine and wasted.
