Shawn4815162342 I guess I must be, because this scene was ridiculous to me. This was like the poltergeist that was dropped on it’s head as a child. I mean, I get it, she’s pretending, an actor. But the breathing and all the panting, the weird facial expressions, I found myself laughing hysterically. If you think shit like this is spooky and amazing acting; well then, if I’m blind, you’re easily amused. I guess the show just isn’t for everyone?
I just watched this on Netflix last night. I like the show, but this scene made it next level. Eva Green crushed that scene (granted with some help from Dalton, cinematography, and production design.)
+Blacksmithrage5 To be honest whenever they had a shot of him it made me want to laugh. His scared puppy dog look of, " I did not see that coming" is actually hilarious when a moment before he was trying to be all mysterious and seductive.
Yeah and considering the fact that I want to strangle him whenever I see him, watching this scene where he's scared shitless makes me feel so satisfied
Personally I think he was scared, confused, weirded out and probably extremely aroused. He gets off on anything that's scary, confusing or weird, and hilarious 😂
She reached levels of expression with her acting on this show other actors and actresses can only dream of...I've watched some episodes and been genuinely afraid for her health and wellbeing...to put yourself through what she did, that is real commitment!
@@jackbrockhurst No doubt. But how many so-called movie stars (not actors mind you) had such opportunities and squandered them due to lack of talent and skills?
@@abcun17 squandered opportunities due to lack of talent? then how are they afforded an opportunity in the first place? perhaps you mean roles that were miscast? why would anyone waste opportunity on a talentless person?
@@jackbrockhurst Yes squandered opportunities because of lack of talent. How many roles were given to many of these "movie stars", especially back in the day because studios and/or producers thought that having a movie star attached to a movie necessarily meant success or quality. Add to that preferential treatment, nepotism or overly aggressive agents and yes miscast roles as well. For the longest time people like Eva Green never got to shine and had to play second fiddle to less talented hacks. Glad to see that is somewhat changing.
Until this scene, I was like : "hey, that's a cool show, I may stick with it if I got enough free time". Then I was like : "okay, sleeping and eating are overestimated, after all."
@@sissyphussartre2907 lol she's portraying someone being possessed... how should she have done it then? Personally I loved this scene. I think Eva green is a truly great actress.
Truly one of Eva Green's BEST performances! It was so enrapturing and scary all in the same moment. You could literally feel the terror creeping through you as the different spirits spoke through Vanessa and Sir Malcolm watched with fear, shock and anger. Madame Kali gave a eerie good performance as well herself.
One of the best performance I've ever seen portrayed in my life. And I watch a lot of fiction. An outstanding actress and a brilliant cast as well. This show is really good.
I'm currently at episode 6 and sometimes I wonder where the show is going storyline-wise but then there are scenes like this and I don't care because their acting is so damn good!^^
I come back to watch this scene every once in awhile. The way Eva delivers the line: 'Did you name...the moutain...after me?' just gets me in tears every time. Such incredible acting in this show.
@@sissyphussartre2907 being contrary doesn't make you smart. If you're so dumb to not recognize a good actress, I'm very sorry for every person who must listen to you all day.
This is the greatest scene in television history. Seriously. Eva Green and Helen McCrory (Kali/Ms. Poole) are phenomenal, and criminally underrated actresses.
One of the most amazingly done scenes! Eva Green is the right girl to play Vanessa, I mean, she's brilliant!! I love her acting as much as I love this character, Vanessa.... all her mysteries, all her secrets...
Eva Green is phenomenal. She gives, one of, if not THE best acting performances I have ever witnessed, in this scene. Incomparable. Her acting is off the charts incredible. She manages to capture every facet of emotion, highs and lows, from sadness to joy to anger and rage, and even discovers a few new ones. Outstanding performance, Eva! Bravissimo! 💕
What makes it even funnier is knowing that she's a witch (from seeing her in season 2)- so a witch(a servant of Lucifer) who is obviously in charge of the other witches in her coven (they don't really say what a group of witches is called in PD) gets utterly terrified of this ancient spirit that possesses Vanessa :')
Eva Green has to be one of the most talented actresses of this generation. And it's kinda sad that she doesn't get the accolades and credit that she deserves. I'd literally watch anything that she plays in confidently knowing that I'm going to be immensely entertained. I can't wait for her next project!
This is the last show I saw Helen McCrory and recognized her right away. Her acting’s really good here and she’s also memorable in Harry Potter as Draco’s mom who really looks pretty compared to the book. Rip.
One of the BEST acting performances I've seen in my life !!! I've watched it over like 15 times. Too bad this censored version is not so powerful. Eva Green deserves an award for this role !!
This scene would have been so impactful if we were given Vanessa's flashbacks first, instead I was confused. I went back after and cried when she said "did you name a mountain after me", that's the reaction I was supposed to have the first time I saw this.
One of the best gothic movie I have ever seen . Beautiful productions and art directions with all the wonderful characters and actors doing their best work ! Bravo 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Timothy Dalton is clearly distressed. I think his reactions are purely genuine. Its clear that Eva green's acting is making him really emotional and he's been acting for a long time and seen it all. Eva Green is a brilliant actress
great scene, after watching the flashback episode that came later in the season this scene made alot more sense to me because at first alot of what she was saying went over my head.
SoundtrackFanGirlFa Yea, I feel they made a mistake when they gave us Vanessa's flashbacks afterward. This scene would have been more powerful rather than confusing.
SoundtrackFanGirlFa well i mean then this scene wouldve been redundant. instead it gave us questions that would be answered through out the season. giving us whos and what's early on makes us pay attention afterwards because we're watching for answers.
I love when Evelyn AKA Madame Kali nearly craps her knickers (now knowing she is hundreds of years old and a true dark magic witch) when Vanessa channels the even older version of Amunet and she falls to the floor. Is that the moment she decides that Vanessa is the real deal and makes the effigy? From current season, it appears that Ms Ives true soul is older than even the borthers Lucifer/Dracula and are afraid of her in the asylum scene. I am hoping we find out more to this as well as how Ethan "The wolf of God" plays in. Great series!!!
Or maybe she was acting? I think, from watching season 2, that she knew Vanessa was going to be there, so she set up the séance to find out how powerful Vanessa is. She knew exactly who Vanessa was because she was there when Vanessa became Joan Clayton's (The Cut Wife) student. She was after her then. So she was probably acting to keep people from getting suspicious. With Evelyn being a Witch, that kind of thing wouldn't terrify her, it would most likely thrill her.
I was disappointed that Madame Kali turned out to be the main villain, because it ruins this scene. I thought Kali was just a fake seer who by chance has a REAL spirit show up at her seance, scaring the crap out of her. It was so funny watching her horror & shock. But it turns out Kali already knew about Vanessa, so her shock & horror here is feigned.
+Janice Mvala Hey, I'm doing this piece for a performance and I'm trying to find out what she says in Lingala (in Lingala and English) for my script as I have to speak it. could you help me at all?
***** Yes of course she said "Moninga na ngai asali malamu. Kombo na yo lisusu? Mikolo ebele banda to fandaki boye o yebi muana muana" it means " My friend is fine. What's your name? It's been vert long since we've been like this. Child child" The translation is a little bit weird because she doesn't really speak Lingala well. I hope it will help you :)
TheGreaterGood Yeah it sound really strange because I didn't except this at first. And she said that "My friend is fine. What's your name? It's been vert long since we've been like this. Child child"
+Janice Mvala Oops I forget to add the moment when she screams " Yo nde moto okoki ko sunga ngai!! Tata na ngai!! Sunga ngai sunga ngai!" It means " You are the only one who can save me. My dad!! Save me save me"
Yes, this clip was cleaned up somewhat for RU-vid consumption...it was even more raw and intense when it originally aired. In face, this was one of the most riveting things I've ever seen on TV...Eva Green scared the crap out of me. I think she's starting to typecast herself as 'the weird hot chick', but I'll accept that.
She was a brilliant BEAST in this scene. I was so enthralled and enraptured with the way she bodily and facially acted out the different spirits. Made me think I was right there with her.😍😍
Eva Green played the shit out of this role so well during this scene that I couldn’t sleep for days. It was _that_ terrifying. The fact that she doesn’t have any awards for this performance is beyond me.
Incredible acting from Eva`s part. Truly unnerving. And very, very sad. Especially in retrospective, after knowing that it was Peter in his last moments before death, in agony suffering from a terrible sickness, even now desperately wanting to please his father, trying to leave a mark. ,,Will you name a mountain after me?" Interestingly, this is the scene I find both the best, and the most terrifying one. A piece of art.
Every once in awhile after watching a bad series I come back here to remember what acting and good series is really like. This scene, Eva Green, oh my god. I have to remember to breath when watching it.
This scene and the padded room (blade of grass speech) in season 3 are among her best works. She rocks the role of Vanessa Ives, no other actress could have played that role. She is not a big woman, she is thin, and looks very frail in many scenes, however, she exudes power, presence, poise. She is amazing, and the whole cast was amazing.
Profanity for the sake of profanity can be removed or left in, it usually makes no difference to me. But for this scene however the profanity is integral and necessary. This scene is about 50% less powerful without it...
I cover my mouth with my hand when every time I watch it. Eva Green put on one of the strongest performances in acting history, and not enough people watched that.
This does not lose an inch of its haunting presence on me although I watched several times before. I even had the urge of aborting it. What a power of filmmaking. The acting, the music, the cutting, the effects. It’s just flawless. Of course, Eva Green does all the central work in this scene - and it’s phenomenal - but let’s not forget what Timothy Dalton does here is equally great. His acting stays aside, silent, and leaves room for Green‘s performance. Still, he manages to portray all that shame, remorse and anger of Sir Malcolm so intensely, just by using the expressions of his face. It is still one of my favourite shows. I so have to rewatch it soon.
Eva Green gave an Oscar winning performance here. Season 1 was one of the absolute best things I've seen on television. Just wish the series had a better finale. Hoping the spin-off does better with wrapping things up.
One thing that most people don't know is jewelry is the oldest form of protection in magick, particularly rings, which is the circle. That's why she asked them to remove their jewelry to expose everyone at the table to the magick she was creating in particular Sir Malcolm.
Soooo when Kali hisses "Amunet, Serpent, Hidden One, know your lover, your master, your lover", doesn't this totally set up the witches in season 2 (considering literally nobody looked at Mme. Kali when she said it)? I'm not sure if it was meant to, but I think we should discuss the brilliance of that tiny sentence. It's such a small piece of the scene but a crucial clue to the foundation of s2, in my opinion at least.
@Moros God Of Doom So true, i have seen this idiot comment the same thing under each comment of this brilliant video. Poor thing is so in love with Eva by knows he/she can never have her and is so pathetically butt hurt hahahaha!!!!
When you invite Vanessa Ives to a séance, things are bound to get interesting. Watch Creator John Logan discuss the incredible rage, intensity, and pain Eva Green explored to create the shocking #PennyDreadful scene.
Really?? Well that confuses me a hell of a lot, because famous RU-vidrs like The Gabble Show and Shane Dawson are dropping f bombs, s bombs and c bombs ALL the time. I don't get why the censored it 😆
