When I was a kid I modeled my playing style after Penny, especially posting up. As I got older it became less effective since I'm average height 5'8" and didn't have the best legs, although I was quick. Coaches would put me at point guard but I preferred shooting guard. Now at 37 looking back it's bittersweet thinking of how badly I wanted to be in the NBA. With each passing year, that dream kept fading away. But having a dream is part of being a child and that is something that cannot be taken away.
I don't think we've ever seen a player come out of college with a polished game. Penny could defend, post up, had consistent three point shot, perimeter shooter, take over games, hit big shots, run an offense half court-full court, and most importantly he was a great passer and team player. He did all of this right from the start as a rookie.
He was highly missed when the Magic lost that 18 point lead against the Bulls the following round, he definitely would've hit those shots everyone else was missing.
That why bulls swept magic in playoffs that year after being beat by magic year before in playoffs! Hardaway was still bothered by his knee and Achilles, couple other magic players not fully healthy and most of all due to that and other factor, they were not on all cylinders going into series against the bulls
injuries are a part of basketball.... that comes with being a team to go deep in the playoffs, despite injuries penny still balled hard vs the bulls and was pretty good in 96 and they still got dismantled
@@ChrisM07 i was surprised in the game 2 Magic couldn’t killed the game with a 3 point. Shaq offensive foul against Rodman was not an offensive but defensive flopping by Rodman. Because he was smaller to defend on Shaq, he received his elbow in his face so it is not an offensive foul. This bad whistle changed the game. I was Magic fan even I loved Jordan. This year Jordan = O’Neal, 30 pts, 14 Rebs 3 blocks, 3 assists or more…..
@@technicplay8959 Tbh the Magic could've still won G2 w/o Grant if they had adjusted after Shaq got figured out in the 2nd half. Penny had almost nothing ran for him the entire 2nd half the majority of the plays were still "give it to Shaq and stand around", that's where coaching becomes important.
You've never and will never hear 1:24 of Lebron James. This is cause Lebron is average at best in the post. His game is limited to transition offense and passing. Nothing more.
