Bill Skarsgard (who played Pennywise) was really nervous and concerned that he was traumatizing the child actors with his performance. After one especially intense scene one of the kids snapped out of his scared acting and enthusiastically told Skarsgard he really liked what he was doing with the character.

Their visions aren’t visions. Everything they’re seeing is real. PennyWise holds a trance like state over the entire town. Didn’t y’all notice the adults never really cared? The adults see everything the kids are seeing but it’s normal & perfectly fine to them. Pennywise keeps the adults in a state where they just don’t care. PennyWise has been in Derry for a very, very long time. Lastly, the reason why PennyWise scares the kids, their personal encounters with PennyWise, is because it salts the meat. PennyWise loves to scare the kids first, he says it makes them “taste” better. Yes, there is a “IT” “Chapter 2”.

Remember that IT isn't just Pennywise the clown. Pennywise is just a form it uses to instill fear in the kids, because kids are scared of clowns. It covers the entire town in an aura of apathy and negativity in order to feed on scared kids. IT can manifest everywhere, even on people's tvs. Ever notice how all the kids parents are super shitty, and spend a bunch of time in front of the tv? IT is making the town the perfect breeding ground for vulnerable kids, so IT can terrify and eat them. Watch the movie back, and you'll see IT disguised as bystanders like the librarian or as graffiti or any number of things, always watching the kids.

Great reaction guys. No surprise there. If no one has answered it yet. The reason for him slowly showing the kids their fears is because it makes them tastier. I believe its from the book that "IT" says its like "salting the meat." So fear is like seasoning your food. That's why IT targets kids because they're easier to scare which equals tastier food. That doesn't mean adults are completely off the menu. Hope you guys watch "Chapter Two"
@TeddyKGB12
@TeddyKGB12 Год назад
You are correct. Also, I believe the book also said that children's fears are more based on fantasy, which makes the fear stronger, which makes sense if you think about it. If IT takes the form of their fears, IT can become anything. For adults, their fears are different. What would IT take the form of for an adult, a high electric bill? The mortgage?

@@lilmanq7746 absolutely. The fears of children are easier to manipulate, as their brains aren't fully formed yet. In the book, some adults don't even see IT or notice ITs presence. If you haven't done so already, read the book. It's amazing and truly scary. There are also a lot of things in the book that couldn't be put in the movies, due to time constraints and other things. In the original book, the kids were set in the late 1950's and the modern era was the early 80's, which is why some behaviors are 'off' from what you expect, like the tighty whities and the overt racism and bullying. Also in the book there is a subtle but present idea that they have some kind of divine help when they are together as one(as the first time at the rock fight), and that they are part of a war between extraplanar beings, Maturin the Great Turtle, and It, the Spider with the Deadlights.

I love how the film accurately depicts how bullies were back in the day. Another iconic method of bullying was to slip cherry bombs in their back pockets of an innocent to blow up their ass cheek muscle tissue, and the follow-up would be that they wouldn't be able to sit down properly due to the damage caused, thus leading to bullying about the kid now being gay or being taken advantage of by a man and therefore is now gay. If it wasn't in the back pocket, then they'd forced them to hold the cherry bombs with a closed fist. Medical costs were so bad back then that the damage would usually send the family into intense medical debt. Bullying back in the day brutalize todays bullies by a landslide.

I’m curious, since I don’t think I heard you mention it: did you notice that the actor who plays Richie Tozier is also Mike Wheeler in _Stranger Things?_ It’s kind of funny, because the novel _IT_ and the 1990 miniseries version were among of the Duffer brothers’ biggest influences in creating that show, but to the extent that you can map the Party onto the Losers’ Club, Mike is obviously Bill Denbrough, not Richie. Richie, at least in this film version, is closer to Lucas - the skeptic whose distrust creates some dissension in the group, though I think in the novel that was more Stanley Uris’s role. You can see elements of Eddie Kaspbrak in Will Byers, the smallest and most fragile of the boys, although Joyce is a _much_ better mother than Eddie’s mom (you were right about the Munchausen-by-proxy element, that’s _exactly_ what Mrs. Kaspbrak is about).

As the original film (made for tv version) was shown in two parts I think its only fitting that your next reaction should be: IT Chapter 2. This incredible remake was split into two separate films for a deeper more theatrical experience (and also for the money grab the studio wanted)

So funny seeing you react to the river scene. Definitely you’re not Gen X. I lived in a small town as a kid and my friends and I did that a lot of times. Left school or skipped school and went swimming. Sometimes a few girls would go with us. Remember doing it since I was 11 years old.

There was a railroad trestle going over the Merrimack River where I grew up. In 8th grade, me and my friend group went up there with a bunch of girls so of course the braver of my friends and I dropped down to our skivvies and jumped in. One of the dudes that stayed on the trestle opened up a chum bucket, got freaked out and kicked off the ledge and I had a half gallon of maggots poured directly in my wake. Good times

Stephen King's novel 'It' was first made into a TV movie back in 1990... It was also in 2 parts, but in a different storytelling format than this version made explicit for the big screen. The original movie had actor Tim Curry as 'Pennywise the clown'... The first part started w/ the 7 kids as adults. Mike Hanlon (of the seven) still lives in Derry when kids start going missing or getting killed... He finds an old photo of George Denbrough (Bill's little brother 'Georgie' who was killed by Pennywise when they were kids) left at a crime scene and deduces that Pennywise has returned... Mike starts calling the other 6 and asks them to return to Derry to fulfill a promise they had made... Each of the 6 adults gets a call from Mike and recall their experiences w/ Pennywise as they make their way back... Bill is a writer and author, Ben is an architect, Beverly is a fashion designer, Richie is a stand-up comedian, Eddie owns a limo company, and Stan own an accounting firm - w/ all 6 making big money outside of Derry, while Mike is a librarian in Derry. 'It -Chapter 2' for the big screen was the opposite - the adults were having flashbacks of their first experiences w/ Pennywise.

Great reaction you two! 😊 I love this movie! Definitely one of my favorite Stephen King book adaptation. There's one thing that was from the book that thankfully wasn't in this movie or the sequel. You can Google it if either one of you are curious. LOL! Bill Skarsgård is fantastic as Pennywise, the Dancing Clown. Both him and Tim Curry(who played Pennywise in the 1990 mini-series)are amazing. And the kids in the Losers Club are so perfectly casted. I VERY HIGHLY recommend the 2017 sequel "IT: Chapter 2" to see how the story ends. And remember....you'll float too!!!🎈🎈🎈🎈🎈 Looking forward to the next reaction. 😊

They left out a lot of lore, though. The Black Spot, The Turtle etc. Mike Hanlon’s arc got fucked up too, or how Bowers’ father would torment Mike’s family for being black, IT using her influence to instill hate in the in the community for her to feed of the fear of the victims

You guys should definltey check out the "IT" Mini-series (1990) to compare and contrast with the movie, which is also a 2 parter. Funny enough the movie came out 27 years later after the mini series did. lol I've seen the Mini-series and thought it was definitely scary for a "Made for TV" movie. When I watched this version, this stepped up from the original and then some. This was one of the many remakes I thought was good if not better than the original... mostly better. I actually had some creeped out and scare moments I've hadn't had since the orignal came out (I was 7 at the time). Your reaction was my reaction, and came out of the movie theater quite satisfied because it was such a great movie. :)

I don't know if you're able to but after you watch these two It movies, you should really go back and watch the made for TV It movies. It has the phenomenal Tim Curry playing it in those. And in my opinion in a lot of ways he's just as scary as Bill Skarsgard which is this version of it, if not more scary in a lot of spots. It's less CGI and more just really creepy. Although This version of it where he does his eyes in two different directions, that's actually Bill Skarsgard doing that.

In the book/novel there's actually an orgy scene with the kids. But they obviously can't do that in the movie. But yes I think Pennywise is suppose to be sn alien. I saw both in theaters. When I saw IT Chapter 2 in theaters it was probably the loudest movie I have ever seen in theaters. It's almost as good as the first one. There's going to be a TV series called Welcome To Derry.

This movie is filled with Easter eggs for the novel. The refrigerator with Pennywise in it is a nod to the discarded refrigerator used by Hockstetler (sp), the Lego turtle, the mural of the gang slaying next to the butcher shop's back door, Mike's parent's fate and vision being like the Black Hole bar arson, etc. all tie into the novel even though they are represented differently in the movie. What I liked more than anything was Derry having a canal and that Paul Bunyan statue. The TV miniseries had its faithful portions as did this movie and its sequel but the newer movies seem more immersive to me.

the scary thing about this...YES the parents do see IT...and know about IT...they just pretend they don't because they are all so scared and in denial. If you watch that scene where Georgie got taken again you'll notice...the cat saw and heard what happened...but the old woman didn't...because she CHOSE to ignore it. i don't know when that was a thing but at one point licking your hand and then putting it on someone was like saying "you're my bi%$" and not in a sexual way. IT/ Pennywise creates what we fear the most...the more fear you have in your body the more powerful he is...which is what makes him one of the most terrifying creatures in Stephen King lore...fear is a natural part of us all...it's ok to have fears...we all do...so long as they don't overwhelm us...but with pennywise around having fear makes you weak. those three lights inside Pennywise...THAT is his TRUE FORM it's called the Deadlights and it has the power to send people into a hypnotic trance.

Reasons for the visions, they taste better when they are scared. More scared they are, better they taste. Basically salting them up! Also Pennywise lore is vast, you just aren't gonna get it all in a movie. Especially when he has fingers in a lot of Stephen Kings stories. Same with how these kids get the strength to fight Pennywise. That character is constantly giving powers to fight off pennywise evil. Called the shine, which is that famous Jack Nickelson movie. The Shinning!

What makes stories like this creepy is that it almost shows the adults as the villains because they don't seem to give a fuck nor experience any of this since the monster is after children. Not the biggest fan of chapter 2. But I still enjoy both versions of IT. this modern one, and the 90's tv movie version. And speaking of Stephen King, you should watch THE SHINING AND DOCTOR SLEEP (DIRECTOR'S CUT OF DOCTOR SLEEP IS WAY BETTER THO)
