Here are five highlights of September 2024 that you missed: - DB Cargo ran the last mail train on September 23rd 2024 which ended 194 years of mail trains in Great Britain since 1830. - MTA hosted a special birthday train to celebrate the 60th birthday of the Budd R32 subway cars with a special recreation of the original 1964 banner of its first day. - Chesapeake and Ohio 614 is on the restoration back to its original identity after years in the Greenbrier Presidential Express livery. - Canadian National has reopened the former British Columbia Rail Tumbler Ridge line after 24 years of no rail activity since 2000 after its electric wires got removed. - Amtrak has began the construction of a new bridge to replace the old 1907 built bridge over the Connecticut river.
Imagine if the ALCO plant in Schenectady survived long enough to just be redeveloped into Siemens’s new High speed train plant in NY. I’m not saying it’s totally realistic of a situation but definitely a better fate than being turned into a bunch of nonrail garbage. NS made it worth for a lessor cause at Altoona.
As always, I found this quite informative! Now, I know that the Brightline West trainsets have quite a long journey from Horseheads, New York (a curious name for a town) to California/Nevada. Also, as a San Diegan, I'm glad to see our new mini-Trolley line, the Copper Line, be featured at 5:46. In fact, I was the one that created the Copper Line Wikipedia page to begin with! I found "the whole 5 miles of it" quite funny. Thanks for the information!
It's not a coincidence that the Minecraft movie is being released on your channel's anniversary. Jack black as "real minecraft steve" was planning it the whole time.
With the Siemens factory being made in New York, I can understand their decision. The US is already extremely inexperienced in building trains in general, especially compared to Europe, and ESPECIALLY with high-speed trains. I think New York is the only place in the US where getting someone to build a high-speed train isn't the equivalent to a caveman discovering fire. With the CAF plant, maybe they could've bought portions of the plant, but usually when 2 companies want to split an asset, it takes AGES and a CONSTANT back-and-forth to agree on the TINIEST things, so it might actually be quicker to just build their own plant from the ground up, not to mention that I believe the US is already DECADES behind the times in passenger rail. Further, the close proximity of these rivals could also breed even more innovation with the owners of the companies essentially in each others' backyards. As soon as Siemens could introduce a new train, Alstom and CAF would be able to respond, starting a fierce rivalry to speed up innovation drastically during a time when it is desperately needed for the American passenger rail market. I also remember visiting a shipyard in Maine where they built wooden ships even though all the trees there were gone. Why? Because it's easier to bring the work to the labor than it is to bring the labor to the work. Trust me, I think Siemens knows what they're doing.
0:33 after seeing the final thoughts, yeah New York seems far, but if Alco got 25 Big Boys from New York to the Union Pacific, Siemens can get multiple AP220s from New York to California/Nevada. 3:34 Ew 3:38 The Great Western Railway and Duck (Montague) would be proud of this 3:47 Cool! 3:52 Even cooler! 3:57 The coolest preservation news this month! 4:02 A museum NEEDS to purchase that 4:06 I wonder if someone could be able to play that piano piece 4:10 Nice 4:19 Hey, as a quick side note, don't share that part to Schafrillas Productions 4:21 I am half sure that the allegations were made up by Ancora to get it their way 4:25 Oh no 4:34 OH HEEEEEEEELLLLLLLL NAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!! Also to Exo: My brother in Christ! you are running those routes ONLY in peak hours and not at all times of the day! No wonder they have low ridership! 4:47 Stuart FL, you are going to regret that decision in the future 4:54 Looking good! 5:04 I kinda hope that Denver is also able to get some of the S700s in the future 5:07 From what I've heard, this is a livery used by the Nashville Chattanooga and St. Louis' freight trains, so it's awesome that CSX is reviving lesser known schemes! 5:15 If you need to add a tender to your locomotive with new tech, you should just do tier 4 or electrify. 5:41 From what I've heard, this is phase 1 of additional frequencies on Metrolink, so that isn't exactly the "Magically make Metrolink into Japan/Holland" wand, but it is a step up (for the most part) 5:46 That should just be an extension 5:53 More transit systems should do this 6:02 Dog Man will be better 6:12 this seems like an odd choice, especially for Europe 6:37 If you need help converting to oil, you can always turn to us Americans! 6:41 I thought that looked like a Dash 8 6:47 I hope the California State Railroad Museum gets a hold of a set 7:42 My hope for this is that if Amtrak sees major Chicago to Florida ridership, they'll get the support to revive the ACTUAL Floridian as shown in the long distance study even if it is slightly rerouted, and probably won't include a Tampa branch or service to Ocala and Wildwood like the original Floridian. Still, it's sad to see two iconic names go away "temporarily", (However long "temporarily" will be) but hopefully this will help Amtrak with long distance equipment, and since a Chicago to Florida train is something Amtrak has wanted for years, I do see that as a good thing, and possibly an avenue for Amtrak to make some more money. After all, when life gives you lemons, make lemonade. At least the Zephyr will get longer.
4:32 i really like the efficient interior space of that kind of Chinese light rail vehicle. Idk where else it's used besides the line in Foshan, next to Canton
NI railways mention⚠ (also Belfast Grand central is currently only open for bus services with rail services set to start by the end of the year or early next year with for the time being trains being directed to Lanyon place as they have been since june)
The Illini/Saluki also hog superliners when they should have 3 single-level coach + Business/Cafe. With the Ventures, I'm surprised they didn't reallocate older sets to the Illinois Services and use the freed up equipment on the Texas Eagle (and maybe an extra for the Cap on the nights the Cardinal doesn't run)
The Floridian should definitely be made permanent. Don’t know at all why people were hating on it, plenty of people take the train from Florida to New York and plenty will take it from Florida to Chicago too
