A gruesome bombing outside Kabul’s airport that killed 13 U.S. service members and 170 civilians last summer amid a rush by civilians to leave Afghanistan following the return to power of the Taliban was not the “complex attack” involving gunmen initially described by military officials, but instead was caused by a lone suicide bomber, the Department of Defense said Friday-shedding new light into the final U.S. deaths in the 20-year war in Afghanistan.
