Neat approach with the loft to the outer point. I've made some difficult shapes like this before but I've never done it that way and most of the methods I have tried get pretty messy. That's a ver clean and effective way to get that done. Massive Kudos.

You could make this with any CAD software package. In my experience tho, some software packages require you to use extra geometry to create those lofted bodies( e.g CATIA)

Hi, I wand to make this in wood with only the edges - so not solid - and I need the angles to which I have to cut the wood. Unfortunately I cannot work with Autodesk and tried to read the angles on the (GREAT!) video. Can you please help me - Thanks !!

Hi, I actually don't really know anything about the numerical values of these bodies. In my videos I just used the measurement tool to check (and prove) that the bodies are 100% correct; in the case of a Catalan Solid like this one the angle between any two neighbouring surfaces has to be the same. That's all I did there, check if the angles are the same. The Wikipedia article on this body's got much more information than I could possibly provide. Inventor measures the angles at 156.72 degrees, Wikipedia has some more detailed information.

@@DrStrangeloveII Thank you very much ! Maybe your programme can tell you evrything about the triangle... the length of the legs (must be the same I read) and the base and the top angle between the 2 legs and the angle between the leg and the base. Can you have a look for a retired man who wants to make something :-) Thanks!

Sorry for the late reply, I just read your comment. I don't have Inventor anymore so I can't check anything, but I believe www.wikiwand.com/en/Pentakis_dodecahedron has the information you're looking for: "Its faces are acute isosceles triangles with one angle of 68.618 720 931 19° and two of 55.690 639 534 41°. The length ratio between the long and short edges of these triangles equals (5 - φ )/3 = 1.127 322 003 75."

Great video, thanks. I was able to successfully follow your steps and complete the pentakis dodecahedron. I am planning to follow and learn from all your videos day by day. Just wanted to ask if you can show me how to unwrap the outer layer of the body. I am using Autodesk inventor 2020.

Not sure what you mean by unwrapping the outer layer... but if you're talking about new content, I can't make any because I don't have Inventor anymore

DrStrangelove I want to have a template for this body printed on the sheet of paper, each face flat and separated so I can cut it out and assemble it. Anyway thanks for the videos I’ll hopefully figure this out.

You're asking for a net of this particular polyhedron. Not sure if that's feasible in CAD software. You could use 3ds MAX, which is also a CAD software and do an export, then unwrap the UVW

@@sodahead0 thanks, I will look into it.

@@nufoundfunk I found out how to unwrap the outer layer. If you have CATIA, there is an unfold command. You just pick the target plane to project the surface onto and you pick the origin to start the unfolding process. Then you pick all the edges highlighted in blue and you should get your unfolded surface.

I figured out how to make this with NX.
