Some interesting things about this clip, which is live on tv... John smoking while playing! Orange amps! Everywhere! With empty wine glasses on them! Danny’s bass intro and Bert’s wry smile as if to say, take that, you pedestrian folk bands! Jacqui, cool as a cucumber, comfortable singing everything, jazz, blues, trad, pop. Does this sound like a “folk” band? There never was, or will be, any band quite like The Pentangle
Yes, the Orange amps were very popular in those days with many bands. I like their experimental approach and the way they mix in the blues and jazz influence. I don't much care for the psychedelicized video effects. Too distracting.
From Pentangle and Fairport Convention, to Cream, Humble Pie, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, et cetera, it's freakin' amazing the sheer amount of musical talent and songwriting that came out of the U.K. from '65-'75.
off course they're all great, but to me what made them as a band sound so special was their rhythm section, Danny Thompson and Terry Cox... they were super jazzy! also, an upright bass makes every song better! cheers from Brazil
Thank you for giving a shout-out to Terry Cox. Most Pentangle comments I've seen ignore him. Sad, because his variety of drumming and percussion techniques, along with that occasionally swinging beat, appropriately underscored and added instrumental color to the band's music.
Deliziosi ancora oggi a distanza di anni, inimitabili ed unici per stile e tecnica. Speriamo che vengano apprezzati dalle nuove generazioni, e da quelle future 🍀🎶🙏😉
They were a band that were slightly before my time until recently when a young woman in her twenties joined our music group to learn guitar .A couple of weeks later she says my mums aunt sings in a band and i replied really what are they called and she replied Jacqui Mc Shees Pentangle the young lady in question has a good singing voice
Amazing music and playing. No-one ever sounded like them, and wow what a rhythm section. Love how Jacqui doesn't break a sweat singing a tricky part for 10 minutes.
Thank you so much for posting this on RU-vid. The music these guys recorded, along with that of the Fairport Convention (particularly with Sandy Denny) -- to mention but a few -- was the backdrop to so many moments of beauty and reflection during my adolescence, back in the '70s, right at the beginning of my love for folk music, and particularly folk-rock, a love which lasted many decades. It is wonderful to watch them playing live, and still so refreshing after all these years...

What! Then you haven’t lived! The first I heard of them was in a tv series called Take Three Girls. That’s when I sort of fell in love with London and the UK. All the best from Sydney Australia 🇦🇺
I agree, very unfortunate, indeed. I bet it was supposed to be "trippy" but, had I watched this back then under the influence, it would have very likely given me a bad trip. Dreadful!
I know. I saw them many times live, but RU-vid compression makes the sound quality suck. Sounds like it is being played through an old sweaty sock. @@noaharkadedelgado
