Pentas, the reasons they are the most vital nectar plants in my butterfly garden. See some impressive footage of butterflies fluttering and learn about the importance of growing suitable flowers to provide nectar for butterflies in your garden. I also give some tips about their propagation and care.

Correction at 3 minutes - only one node is needed on a cutting, above the soil. This is where the leaves will grow. The roots do not need to grow from a node.

I live in central Florida, and everyone here has pentas. The deep red ones are my favorites, but I haven't been very good about pruning them, so thanks for the information. The butterflies that visit my garden have a firm favorite and that is buddleia, or butterfly bush. I just got my first plants this fall, and the butterflies fight over them! Even though it's January they are still blooming (we haven't had a freeze yet), and I keep them deadheaded to make sure we have plenty of flowerpannicles for our insect guests!

Hi awesome video! one question! What is the name of the Pentas that grow like monsters big? I wanna have them! I have the commercial dwarf one I think it is! But I want the giant one! What is it name? Do u know if there are those in Argentina? Thank u!

Thank you! Yes this giant one is far more hardy and vigorous than the few dwarf ones I have. I know they are all the same species, Pentas lanceolata, but I do not yet know the name of this variety. I think it has been around much longer than the new dwarf and striped ones, so perhaps ask for the "original" old variety at a nursery. If I come across the name for this original tall variety I will send it here. Please let us know if you have any success

I'm in far north Queensland, Australia. I've found that our beautiful Ulyssis butterfly love the nectar of zinnias. Although these are annuals, they self seed readily and there are generally some in flower for most of the year.
