Yeah, how can these 3 NOT know that this "low-budget" video won a GRAMMY??? I cannot believe they never once mentioned it!!! I know nothing about Daft Punk. I assumed that this was all ONE song. I had no idea that Daft Punk is a group and that this was actually a MEDLEY!! WOW. Just WOW!! Pentatonix are really really good at putting medleys together in new and innovative ways. They did that at the sing off as well.
The reason it's low budget is because this is when they were dropped by their past label because they thought "PTX would make it". So PTX was like "we're gonna show them they're wrong !" So they made this. Recorded it in a closet and filmed it in a kitchen with a grand total of $400. They ended up winning a Grammy for it and getting signed with RCA Records!

Wow, I'm finding this in 2020, and I've listened to this song so many times, but NEVER noticed Kirstie's first time singing Around the World. That's crazy.

Yes they did say around the world actually. In the section where avi is singing his solo of Television rules the nation, Kirstin is singing Around the world line at the same time. Go back and re-listen at about minute 3:00 you will hear her.
Their videos have just so much talent and sense for choosing which songs they wanna sing and a harmony that comes along with their voices in different degrees of combinations
David, yes, they included "Around the World." Listen to Kirstie in the background. She sings that phrase at least 3 times. Not a complete song or anything, but it's there. So sorry you didn't hear it! I was willing you to. I'm sure people have already told you that this arrangement got them their first Grammy. Loved your analytical reaction. Thank you!

When they accepted it, Scott told the audience that they recorded it in the kitchen and filmed it in the closet of one of their apartments - and the audience all applauded! They do say around the world twice at least. One time in the Avi Kevin solo part done by Kirstin (hard to notice) and another time at the very end by Kirstin again.

Here is a link to the making of this video. The filming company of this video is FifGen. Their original shoot location fell through, so they had to improvise and filmed in part of the small apartment of Avi (bass) and Kevin (beat boxer) they share. The link has some pictures and you can see their refrigerator just off of the set. The "set" was "... black sheets and hung them in the room and covered the ceiling.," Bates said. I refuse to accept any reaction without the use of headphones. You cannot fully appreciate really any song without a good set of headphones especially any song with such a full bass as Avi.

Also they made this video in one of their kitchens and the "dark room" in a closet. This was definitely AFTER they were dropped (within a week) from the label (Sony) they won from the competition, and they had to resort to youtube. These guys worked from the bottom, and it doesnt help that their music is exclusively acapella (which isnt exactly popular)
I was impressed that PTX was able to beat box this level of complexity in music. Try to imagine Aerodynamic for gosh sakes! If they can do Daft, they can do any band.

They won a Grammy for this and during the acceptance speech they said that they filmed it in a bedroom closet and did the effects in their apartment kitchen. Love PTX so much. Sooo sad that Avi is stepping back from PTX. :'(

You should check out Pentatodrix, which is Todrick Hall making fun of this video. Todrick is a long time friend of theirs, and he contacted them saying that he was really having a hard time figuring out all of the parts for it (which he did just by himself). Plus there's a video of Superfruit reacting to Pentatodrix.
