Scott, Mitch, and Kirstie grew up together. They have been doing theater and choir with each other since they were 10yrs old. Scott found Kevin and Avi so they could audition for a show called The Sing Off, which was a a capella singing competition show. The won the season they competed on. That was in 2011, and they have won 3 Grammy's and this past summer their concerts averaged 12,000 people. You should watch the video of Scott, Mitch, and Kirstie when they were just the trio. It's cute seeing them still in high school, but you can already hear how talented they are.

There were once three friends that grew up in Texas and went to school together and they liked to sing. Their names were Scott, Mitch and Kirstie. They were in all sorts of choirs and other music related projects, but one day they decided that they wanted to try and arrange acappella covers together, you know, like you do when you're bored :D. And so The Trio came to be. And all was well. Until the day came when Scott and Kirstie graduated from high school and left their friend Mitch, who was a year younger, behind to go to college. But Scott missed his friends very much and so when he heard about a TV acapella competition, he immediatelly thought of his two friends from high school. He called them and asked if they wanted to pause college and miss their high school graduation in order to do more acapella covers. And they were both like, sure, why not :D. But they needed two more people so they could be on the competition. One of Scott's friends said he knew this bass guy who breaks speakers for fun :D. And so Avi joined the group. Then Scott was looking at RU-vid beatboxers and found a video of a guy who could play a cello and beatbox at the same time and so he contacted him and asked him to join. And the rest is history. I think :D. Maybe I got some detail wrong, but this is pretty much it. There is definitely more to this story and there are some wonderful details like Kirstie apparently crying with joy when she realized that because of the competition, more people will hear Mitch's voice. Seriously, they are the gift to this world :D.

A partial answer to your question about how PTX came together is that Kirstin, Scott and Mitch went to high school together and started singing as a trio at that time. A fun you-tube video to watch is "Trio singing Telephone by Lady Gaga" (a little bit of it was in the video you just reacted to). This shows them together when just teenagers. You should watch it either as a reaction or just on your own private time.

Between all of us you're going to get the entire story when you add all of the sums of the part together. Wait. that doesn't make sense. The parts of the whole? Okay one thing to keep in mind is Mitch new Scott and Kirsten when they were all children and doing community theater. Mitch and Kirsten went to the same school so they were friends. Scott and Mitch became friends around the age of 10 in Community Theater. They all love to sing and all of them were in community theater from the time they were very young. Mitch dated Kirsten and then decided he was gay. When he was older, he dated Scott. And then he dumped Scott and broke his heart. So. All of them were interacting in different ways around acting in music from a young age together. Scott and Mitch did a lot of Duo work and Duets and things and you can find those videos on RU-vid. There's also solo work of both of them on RU-vid from when they were just children. In high school Scott started going to the same school Mitch and Kirstie went to. All three of them became best friends at that time. They usually congregated at Scott's house because he had more video games . They were self-proclaimed choir nerds and belong to everything that had to do with singing that they possibly could. They formed an acapella group called the trio and I believe it was Scott and Kirsten arranged Lady Gaga's "Telephone" in high school and the three of them saying it at their acapella choir recital and it was really cool! This is very brief over laugh when the three of them are all the same age for like a month or two. But the way the birthdays fall put Kirsten and Scott in a Grade ahead of Mitch. So at graduation Scott and Kirsten went to college in separate places and Mitch was still in high school. And I believe that Scott and Mitch weren't speaking at that time. I think it was after their breakup and I think Scott said it was the longest he's ever gone without talking to Mitch. Scott met guy named Ben Bram at the ecology was attending in their music program musical theater I believe and they were just talking about their backgrounds and Scott brought up Trio. Ben had seen them on RU-vid and told Scott that they were really good and they should try out for The Sing-Off which is an acapella competition that aired on NBC. but they had to have five people. Scott thought it would be prudent to ask Kirsten and Mitch if they would try out for The Sing-Off with him before he added two members so he asked Kristi she said yes then he asked Mitch and Mitch said dad can I try out for The Sing-Off? And he said with who you going to be with? Mitch answered I'll be with Scott and his dad said oh okay. See Scott could keep Mitch safe and Mitch had never even left his hometown in his entire life let alone fly on an airplane Los Angeles. so Mitch ditched graduation and Scott and Kirstie left College. now Ben Bram and Scott were looking for a bass and Avi came highly recommended. so he agreed to try out with the kids as he called them. At the time, Avi was ready to give up on trying for a professional music career. if The Sing-Off hadn't of panned out he was going to give up music entirely. Scott decided to look for beatboxers on RU-vid and he ran across this guy doing a very complicated piece on a cello while he beat box to it and he thought the guy was absolutely the only person he could even think of asking to beatbox with them. And that was how Kevin was asked if he wanted to try out. it turned out he knew who the trio was as well and decided to just drop out of med school and try out for The Sing-Off! they talked back and forth on social media or they talked back and forth on social media or computer or whatever and exchanged ideas on how to arrange "telephone" 2 include Avi and Kevin and use it as their audition song. I don't remember who's Scott paid to fly out there oh, but he paid for somebody's ticket either Kevin or Avi and the five of them stood face-to-face for the first time in the same location the night before their morning audition for The Sing-Off. that was the first time they sang together in the same location. And they Scott named the group. he came up with Pentatonix for the pentatonic scale. when you try out for The Sing-Off you have to name a leader for your group. I think when they were asked who is the leader of your group everybody took a step backwards except for Scott and he was elected leader. I have no idea if they really did it that way it just sounded funny. and Scott ended up singing a lot of the songs as the lead. They auditioned and made the show. the first time they performed on a stage before a big audience as Pentatonix was their first performance on The Sing-Off on live TV. they get a Katy Perry song. and he was called extraterrestrial? at any rate they won the competition and they won a recording contract and the label drop them the very next week stating they did not believe acapella was marketable in mainstream music. That was a bummer. but they all got little places to live that were right next door to each other in Los Angeles and started arranging music and uploading it to RU-vid sitting on a couch information you see them doing Evolution videos and stuff like that. there were people who remembered them from The Sing-Off and they became patreons and pretty much funded them. they were able to get better equipment and rent recording time it Studios and put out their own music videos and eps as well as some CDs. One of they're videos that they filmed in two of the members homes, Daft Punk, won of them their first Grammy Award. Scott's friend from college that had the idea about the group, Ben, and he became the guy that does the recording and arranging and he became the guy that does the recording and mixing for Pentatonix. he's fans now for his work with acapella and when you see them recording on tour it's been that is in the video working at the soundboard. their first music video that went viral was Somebody That I Used to Know. after they'd been been doing their own thing for a few years which included a lot of touring they were offered a contract with RCA. they were able to put out their first self-titled CD and their Christmas music was so popular they had platinum albums! and I believe their first self-titled CD debuted in the number one spot on Billboard eating out Demi Lovato's album that released the same day. they're very very grateful to their fans because the fans are literally what got their career funded and they work very very hard to make the most of that money from their fans. they have an amazing relationship with their fans and I just love them for that. but they still haven't forgotten that they are where they are today because of the fans believing in them and not giving up on them and all of that hard work. they were on The Sing-Off in season 3 which aired in 2011. Scott, Mitch and Kirstie we're all 19 years old at the time. Avi and Kevin were in their 20s. and that's all I know. Okay TTYL oh wait! I think Scott and Kirstie dated briefly to but I've only heard that said one time so I don't know if there's any truth to it or if it was just little quip that Kirsty made. and now I'm going to say goodbye because now I have dry mouth from talking so much cuz I dictated this. 😂

Oh! No, no, no! 😨 Mitch is a sweetheart! I should have been more specific. I was just trying to say as much as I could about their entire story, but taken out of context it could be misconstrued. I am so sorry if I gave that impression about Mitch 😓 ! I would never, ever say anything negative about him, because there's nothing negative to say! He's my favorite and he is a sweet, beautiful soul and I love everything about him! Scott was the one who said that, and he said it playfully in mock petulance in a book that he and Mitch, as Sup3rfruit, put out because fans were asking and asking and asking them if they were dating. Fans wouldn't let it go, so they chose to share their personal history. which they didn't have to do. Thank you so much for making sure nobody misunderstood! ❤️

@@rieshareacts I think that the story with that was that Scott had a crush on Mitch. They were very close at the time, because Scott came out to him and they shared a lot of personal stuff. So when Scott kissed Mitch and later asked him to be his boyfriend, Mitch agreed, because he liked Scott and wanted to be close to him and that felt like the logical progression. However, once they started dating, Mitch realized that his feelings for Scott were platonic and decided to broke it off before it completely blew up, because he wanted to keep Scott as his friend. But, you know, Scott was 17 and at that age everything feels like a huge deal, so he needed time to deal with the break up. They had to put in work to get their friendship back, but I believe in the end it made them even closer :).
