+janetranslates Ben Bram. He worked with Scott's college group. (this is on a video/interview somewhere... Maybe the documentary? I can't remember.) He saw the Telephone video of The Trio and approached Scott about the Sing Off and said they needed a bass and a beatboxer. Ben met Avi before (at a workshop I think) and recommended him. Avi had already seen The Trio on youtube and agreed. Scott found Kevin off youtube. Ben and Scott split the airfare to fly Kevin out. (Okay this is a direct quote from On My Way Home: Pentatonix Documentary) ad Scott claims it was the best investment he ever made. I think Avi was there first. Apparently the first impression The Trio had of Avi was that he was very professional. "He was ready early in morning, dressed and ready to work and we were so sloppy"... or something like that. (I think that was a HW interview). Ben Bram helps them arrange and produce their music to this day. He won the Grammy with them for Daft Punk Medley.

TheAmiraD Oh, I've been aware of Ben Bram for a long time, Amira! By sheer chance I stumbled onto his "Settle Down" on the Spaulding Sessions and went nuts! I wish there were more videos of him singing solo. What I still don't know is how they actually communicated with Kevin--if there's a way to send a private message to a RU-vid poster I don't know about it. And I don't recall hearing the first-impression-of-Avi quote before, so thanks very much for that! We just never can get enough, can we?

I think you can actually leave a message on a person's youtube page if they haven't un-enabled it. I stumbled across all of these insanely talented people on youtube. And no, we just can't get enough. :P

Scott had arranged to meet up with Avi before the day Kevin arrived (idk how much before) - he said in one of their shows that Ben Bram arranged for them to met up at a coffee shop and he (Scott) knew Avi was the one when Avi introduced himself because of how low his voice was (lol). I guess the other two (Mitch and Kirstie) didn't meet Avi until the day before the audition (same as Kevin) which is when they said about him seeming really professional and stuff. Also, Kirstie and Scott said they were really nervous about Kevin arriving because Scott was living in a frat-style house at the time which was really messy and Kevin was from Yale. Apparently they made this video for him before he arrived showing him around the place and they just kept apologizing for how messy it was lol. Kevin said in one interview he thought that was really funny.

A lot of announcer types add "The" to the front of their name. To their credit, the group has always refrained from being jerks about correcting them.

I thought of it as "The-one-and-only" even though that's still weird.
