Kevin came in. Mitch and Scott move over when he comes back from putting away his cello, but the fan cam stayed on Mitch so you never see him. This goes down as a seriously epic performance by Mitch. Watching this version of Aha is a rite of passage for Pentaholics, especially those of us drawn to his voice in particular. I must have watched it and reactions to it 100 times by now and it never gets old.
They are all stars ⭐️ but Mitch….he is like an alien star ⭐️ in all of the best ways! You cannot possibly come up with enough words to describe what he does, they never seem to convey the feeling you get from hearing him? If that makes any sense at all? But this is exactly what sets PTX apart for me personally…..I could easily say that about any of them really. They are just that talented. T ✌🏻

Fan girling a bit as I think you are about to see Pentatonix live (or recovering from the experience). I hope it's the best experience that surpasses your wildest expectations. I adore these song series that you assemble. Knowing the background of the song and the original recording really expands the journey the song has taken once released from the original composer. Pentatonix is the absolute best at honoring the original in their renditions. Not just mega talents, but PTX is humble and excessively generous.
The opener was "Christus Factus Est", a sacred piece suggested by Avi, who'd performed it with the chamber choir he was in at Mount San Antonio College just prior to joining PTX for The Sing Off in 2011. There were times, however, in concerts where they'd just launch right into "Aha!", and when Avi left, they tried using "Greensleeves" at one point. That just didn't work.

I don't remember exactly what they used as an intro to "Aha" when I saw them in concert a couple months ago in Irvine, but the new intro worked very well, though nothing will ever be quite as iconic as this one with Avi's epic low note (that I believe damaged the woofer in the sound system, as all the low end is "fuzzy" for the rest of the song).
@bill.godwin-austen Avi did have a knack for blowing sound systems. I heard that's why their tour production team started bringing their own equipment to supplement that of the venues. He doesn't have that problem any more on his solo tours. I've been to 5 of his shows (3 in 2019 & 2 in 2022), and he uses the full range of his voice now instead of having to focus on bass.
There's never too much Pentatonix! So I actually really love this video even though it's not the best quality. This is a point in their show when Kevin has just played his cello beatboxing and he's taking it off stage. This show in particular RVIT also blown the speaker system so that's why it doesn't sound fantastic and then of course this is through a cell phone so the quality isn't great but you can still see just how Great they perform live!
Yes. Different. I LOVE the stage live performance. Kevin was there. You can hear him, he just didn’t make it into this persons recording. He had gone to put his cello away while the 4 did the “opening” to this song. You see the gap at first between Scott and Kirstie then they slide together. Please…..OVER KILL US with PTX! I can’t wait for your Christmas reactions!
Not sure if anyone mentioned this but the reason for his going off the walls was that he drank 2 (or more) red bulls before the show, and it hit him for Aha. So we have the benefit of his high on red bull. Also in the beginning Avi blew out the speakers with his low note in the beginning. I read that Kevin was explained. GREAT reaction! I will be loving these next 2 months with PTX and you!!!
When the camera pans into avi and back out u can see that mitch and scott have moved over kevin is standing next to scott u can hear him u just can't see him and yes this is the correct video 👍
This is my all time favorite of this song! I believe there was a couple of cans of Red Bull involved before the show! Kevin is there, off to the side beside Scott - you just can't see him because the person filming was concentrating on Mitch and YES, this is the right one that most Penatholics will lead you to! Great reaction as always! I know you will listen to this one several times more!
After the Sing Off, Recommend the eight new songs from their new Christmas album. In particular, Kiss From A Rose, O Holy Night, and Please Santa Please. Please Santa Please is an original video written by Kirstin and Kevin.
It was so funny watching your face! A great reaction to an epic video. Most reactors ask "Where's Kevin", which is the unofficial subtitle of this video. In the prior song (Papaoutai), Kevin was playing the cello, hence the open spot in the middle of the stage. To give him time to put it away, Avi suggested the gorgeous choral piece "Christus Factus Est". At the end of it, you can see Mitch walk to the center of the stage, Scott followed and Kevin came onstage next to Scott. The only non-perfection to this video is that you never see the whole stage after Aha! started, so we never get to see Kevin! But you sure can hear his incredible beatboxing, which was mind-blowing. So glad you did this!
Yay for the fan who recorded this and many, many thanks. Even though the audio is phone camera quality, it would have been a shame for this to have existed only for the night in question. It’s kind of a rite of passage for newish reactors, so well done! As others have said, yes, it’s the right video, and yes, Kevin joined the others on stage just to Scott’s left. Mitch’s solo music as Messer reflects his own personal tastes, so it can be quite different from PTX and Superfruit - but it’s totally captivating. Loved your reaction, as always! Peace …
All the menbers of Pentatonix were suffering from severe jet lag and, as far as Mitch goes, massive amounts of Red Bull! In these moments you are at your best or your worst. You decide!
This never gets old, and I’ve seen it probably 100 times. Mitch is just other-wordly and my favorite! I don’t think there is such a thing as “too much Pentatonix”. Please react to Messer- but remember it is VERY different. My favorites are Angels Pray, Halfway, and Agony. His other two newest songs, Velvet and Oblivion, are excellent, too. Another 🤯Mitch solo song is on a Jimmy Edgar album and is called Ready2Die (search Mitch Grassi Ready2Die). Not too many reactors do that one- it has an “explicit lyrics” warning, but I have yet to figure out why, unless “I get so high; it’s ethereal” is a drug reference and not a reference to feeling extremely happy! Anyway, I’m looking forward to the upcoming plethora of Pentatonix reactions 👏🏻🥳🔥😁💜!
Looked at the lyrics of Ready2Die again…maybe it’s referencing suicide?? I originally thought it was about being so infatuated with someone that you feel like you could die/you’re in heaven…(could be my naïveté showing!) Does anyone know the actual meaning?? 🤔
Scott and Kirstin doing all the syncopated background parts, with Kevin just going off, is hard to do in a studio environment where you can do it over and adjust things electronically in mixing. The difficulty of doing this live is about a 20 on a scale of 1 to 10. Crowd noise, sound delays (just a fact with sound traveling through cords and wi-fi) the adrenaline of being in front of a crowd, and anything else that can happen live, this is a whole other level talent and discipline. If any of them get off track or off beat doing this song it could turn into a train wreck in a hurry. I don't think there are too many people, outside of these special five, that could do this and do it that well. Mitch might be the reincarnation of Freddie Mercury. Freddie died in November 1991 and Mitch was born in July 1992. He can also grow the Freddie mustache. It is so close to matching it is kinda creepy. You can see Mitch with the Freddie mustache doing Somebody to Love on a Queen special that was on ABC a few years ago.
Kevin was putting Beyonce away. You notice that Mitch and Scott move over when Avi starts his solo. Kevin is where Scott was originally, you just don't see him. Can hear him. I've seen other versions of this and Kevin is definitely on stage with them.
I loved the live version. Especially when the speakers blew. But the video is... And I've seen over 300 vids and live performances.. the only one I have not liked. I thought it was cheesy. But this one.. Perfection. And when they do it with Matt, perfection in a different way. You should do one Aha! with him. See the differences.

There is a professional video from this concert. It does sound better than this particular video. That is the ONLY plus. It skips most of the iconic Mitch parts. It does show Kevin, but not the Avi notes. I watched it once, years ago and never again. But if anyone can combine the sound from the professional video to the fan video, that would be awesome. Mitch does suffer from anxiety, but when he gets out on stage, he just shines. I've seen them in concert, and they are fabulous. Do not miss the encore. Hubby wanted to leave right after the show, and I said no. People around us were smiling and laughing. I won, and they came out and performed bohemian rhapsody. Double win. Hubby admitted that I was right!
Another comment. Im curious to see how many more subscribers you get after doing a bunch of Pentatonix reactions. I've seen reactors' channels soar practically overnight just because of PTX/Superfruit reactions. Hope you enjoy this Rabbit Hole. How could you not?
