Am I the only Pentaholic who used to discover a cool vocal effect in one of their songs and run to find a live video to verify how well they do it live? This song is one of the most impressive to me for that. Those harmonies are so unusual that they sound like a vocoder on the record. Definitely one of the many songs which indicate the influence of Imogen Heap on the group.
+Sara S. They're an American band. It would be crazy for them to perform in every city in the world where they had fans. If that were he case, they'd have to your every city in the world!
+Andre Tsang You've clearly mistunderstood the comments. We were talking about some european cities where they did perform but couldn't include two songs in the set list due to smaller venues. And just so you know, they're currently on a world tour with a number of non american cities that might surprise you.
hey, lets not take things too seriously. I'm so mean to the people I love. It seems weird to explain, but if you were a part of the twitter fandom or something you'd know that we insult the people we love. e.g. we call scott trash even though we love him. I get mad at kirstie because she's so amazing and I love her so much and she constantly inspires me, but making fun of the people you look up to is a very common thing amongst "fandoms" right now haha. Kirstie's actually one of my favourite people on the planet. Next time you see a comment on one of kirstes' instagram pictures like "why are you posting this, i hate you so much, stop" just know that they actually love her and are dramatically mad that she's just so perfect.
Before anyone comes for my jugular, I played viola for twelve years and was in choirs for nine back in the Stone Age, so I know exaxtly how many extra factors there are in a live performance (especially outside) that would drastically affect the sound. Little imperfections from being live are NOT AT ALL what I'm talking about here, but.... *takes cover* I really, really, REALLY hated this performance. I made it about a minute in and had to stop the video. Honestly, though? I was kinda expecting this. I put my pentatonix Playlist on shuffle and Rose Gold came on for the first time in a long time. I even had my nice headphones in, and I realized that I STILL could not pick out any of the voices in the background vocals other than a teeny bit of Avi here and there (and his voice is so goddamn distinctive that it's almost cheating to pick him out lol) and if someone was harmonizing directly with the lyrics instead of doing the oohs. And I immediately ran to YT because I just KNEW that it would be bad 🤣 Hey, it happens to the best of us! And the song itself is gorgeous, but I really think Scott should have kept it for himself as a single and used an acoustic guitar or maybe a piano to accompany him. This song just was not really meant for live performances as an a capella song, at least not in such a small group. You can hear really clearly in the recording that whoever produced it went heavy on the choral sound effects and added in more layers than there are members of pentatonix at times (even if theoretically Kevin could have been singing background during a part with no percussion or just snaps/claps). The only thing that surprised me is how quick y'all are to lie to yourselves lol. It's okay to think your favorite band put out a stinker! I know this is a very popular song from that album, and that this album is one of the most popular Avi Era albums, but for a group as talented as they are, this is a really weak performance. Around the minute and a half mark Kevin is audibly on a different beat than Scott for a hot second. All throughout this song the vocals are a little wonky, too.
I can understand your point. I’m guessing they didn’t use an instrumental backing for Rose Gold since they’re still wanting to use just voice during thing time. Later on with Matt is when they’re mor comfortable with using instruments in their songs as well as tracks to use for live performances. During this era I assume, and you can tell by your criticism on their Rose Gold performance, they rarely use any tracks for background vocals or anything, but did everything live, that’s why it sounded janky with their choral parts. I personally don’t have a problem with this particular thing, just alright on it. In fact, kinda gave me a little respect of how far they’ve come to use tracks and stuff now these days. Also, what’s your favorite original from them? Can be more that one, or make a list! 👍
@@tinydog4390 he wrote "light in the closet" too (for his nephew IIRC) and they still had Avi perform it. Actually, I'm pretty sure I saw in their Netflix documentary that Scott put together virtually ALL of their arrangements until they got really big and could afford a higher production value.
