They are just unbelievable. Most groups have one or two who pretty much carry it. In Pentatonix, they are all 5 unbelievably talented. It is a rare thing. The video is correct. They do make us fans feel like we are part of their family.
I know everyone's saying this, but I do miss Avi. Matt is a great singer and his bass really helps push PTX's pop sound. But Avi's bass was so grounded that it really brought the songs down to earth and (in my opinion) helped the band feel more well rounded. His solo music also speaks to me on a whole new level and I'm just happy to see him happy and thriving within his own career
You would think they were stuck in a time capsule at 2017, since Matt is noticeably absent from this "transformation" except a tiny snippet at the end and finally a few group photos with him. Seems intentional and disrespectful. There are several narrators that wish and try, but you can't erase Matt and his God-given, beautifully honed talent. May God continue to richly bless you Matt and your PTX family!
@@j.6133: I disagree. I’ve wanted Matt to do well, but I’ve only not missed Avi on ONE of the songs (the new version of Carol of the Bells) in the four years that Matt’s been with Pentatonix. Avi consistently had a mindblowingly deep resonance that Matt has only shown me once.
I was afraid that they wouldn't be able to replace Avi. As great as Avi is, and he is missed, Matt is a perfect fit for the group. I love him in Pentatonix.
i’ve been listening to pentatonix since i was in 13 and i’m turning 20 on monday! i’ll always and forever have a special place in my heart for my favorite band 🫶🏻
I was in tears when I saw Avi's departure video, and I attended his final concert with PTX in Burlington, Vermont. I am glad, though, that he was and is able to create music on his own terms now and seems much more relaxed, and I am also glad Matt has merged into the group so well. I do hope the group keeps in contact with Avi at least once in a while. They did spend so much time together, and it would be hard to just let that go.
He blocked their original album in 2018, because he wanted more money. He unfollowed some of them on all social media, he deleted his comments under their videos in 2018. Etc, Etc.
Avi and Pentatonix don't talk about each other much these days; it's understandable that they'd want to get out of each other's shadow. However, Avi and Kevin remain good friends. Avi attended Kevin's wedding, and Kevin attended at least one of Avi's solo concerts. The two sometimes interact on Twitter and have good things to say about each other in livestreams.
@@j.6133 he wasn't happy with Kirstin's place in the group and told them it's him or Kirstin. That was a no-brainer for them of course. I think they couldn't have chosen a better replacement! Matt fit in perfectly!
@@brendajones9377 I have seen this posted but never have seen anything factual, just people posting about it. Wonder where this particular line started?
He’s an over-achiever. He’s performed solo at Carnegie twice - once on cello, and another time on tenor saxophone. Now he’s married with 2 kids, and says his dad still encourages him to consider going back to medical school.
As a Barbershop Singer for over 26 years I find Pentatonix astonishing. Harmony, contrast emotion, sync and overall beauty. I prefer listening without opening my eyes in order to experience my full run of emotions and have more clarity. BRAVO
The kids who would become The Trio moved in and out of various children's choirs and theater groups over the years. Scott has talked about first encountering Mitch when they were 10 and both acting in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. But high school was when the three came together and doing things on their own, instead of as part of larger groups under adult direction.
That’s great to hear! I feel as if Pentatonix reaches all types of fanbases and age groups since they are so talented and blend flawlessly into different genres.
I also turned 64 this year and agree with all of you. Their music crosses all age groups! I hope they continue making music together for a very long time!!!
60 in March, and consider myself a Pentaholic! I especially love Mitch and his angelic voice! I hope he finds his forever guy who will treat him like the queen he is, makes him laugh and most importantly, loves him UNCONDITIONALLY! He deserves that!🥰
I received the news of Avi leaving while preparing for an examination and I was devastated. I'm just so happy that they found a new voice in Matt. He isn't Avi, his voice isn't Avi. But this didn't mean that he wasn't as good as Avi. I love the new energy he brought to the group.
My mother and I recently saw them in Columbus, Ohio, as well, and luckily got front row seats, and I agree; Pentatonix is incredible, in general, and in their videos, but hearing them live is an entirely different experience within itself. ❤️✌️🏽
I'm Sorry but they don't transmit me the same feelings that they used to when there was Avi . i'm not saying that now the music Is bad because some songs are REALLY beautiful but i think that when there was Avi It was Better... Anyway i kept on listening ti avi because he has his own Channel and his own songs that i LOVE
They all are Extraordinary Talented and together they are One , complimenting each other’s Beautiful voice. I Love listening to them, their Unique sound is just so Incredibly Amazing !
personally i feel you didnt give enough time to matts segment. Avi leaving the group was very sad for the fans of pentatonix, he was there for them since the beginning and is part of so many of their biggest albums and hit songs. this definitely was difficult to take in for everyone but matt sallee joining the group was no mistake! while the ara of avi being in pentatonix was just perfect in every way matt fits the group perfectly as well! he brings so much potential and a different style to the group, and not to say avi looks old but i feel matt brings a semi youthful aspect to the group. look at the past few years matt has been with them, he has been a part of so many amazing projects with them! from cover albums to originals and even a few BANGER Christmas albums! i honestly love that he is a part of the group now! I could never choose a better bass between avi and matt, they both are equally amazing and bring different things to the group which is why they both will always be members of pentatonix
I am honestly happy how the group and Avi are now. They do their own thing with Matt fitting them quite well, and Avi I can best describe as making some of the best music I have heard. What he makes is what he wants to make and it truly is music for the soul.
Started out as an early big fan. Their older stuff just sitting on a couch is still my fave timeframe. But artist change and they will leave some behind and also bring on new friends. Still wish them all the best.
Matt had some big shoes to fill and he did so flawlessly! He’s so incredibly talented and an all-around perfect choice! I absolutely adore and miss Avi, but I’m sure the door is always open for future collabs!💖
Avi is still missed, his unique full voice, his personality. But I understand that he left the group because he missed his family and friends. As a solo singer he's just absolutely great. And I miss Kirstin's natural look.
When my mother was alive she just loved this group. If they were on TV that's what you had to watch. I grew to love them also because of their beautiful voices and and how they use them together.
Pentatonix actually didn't transition very well from Avi to Matt. There are 2 other a capella groups that have become mainstream (one of which has changed members quite regularly), and both of these groups, along with many other such groups in the a capella world, find a replacement BEFORE the original person leaves. This way the departing member is practically "handing over the reins" to the person stepping in to take over. These groups will have one person announcing they are leaving while simultaneously announcing the arrival of a new member in the same video. I can tell you that I am certainly not alone in criticising them for how badly they handled this. On the flip side though - with a capella groups, anyone who has ever worked in one will also say that you truly do need the right mix of people to these groups, and finding the right balance of people can sometimes be a years-long experience.
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE Pentatonix. Every member is super talented and together, they create magic. Their videos do make us fans feel connected to them and like they are family. They are mega talented! Their latest song, The Prayer is transcendently magical. They are a gift from heaven
While Matt has done so well with the group I can’t help but feel that Avis departure unraveled the groups peak “it” factor. Although I feel it would be the same with the loss of any of the original members
I was a huge fan since the sing-off, went to three concerts. Now that they've reached diva status they are just less interesting to me. Still following Avi. I dig his music.
Full honesty: Meh. I feel like Pentatonix's style has glazed over the years. Every now and again nowadays they'll make a song I really like, but most of their pieces are just verbatim recreations of the originals, with voices instead of instruments. Don't get me wrong, of course they're all extremely talented, and they're all awesome, wonderful human beings who definitely deserve the praise they've gotten before. But for me they've lost that cool spark that set them apart from every other pop group in the world. Other all-vocal groups have a very distinct style that couldn't really be mimicked in the same way by an instrumental group. And I formed this opinion well before Avi left, though I will admit to him being a more personal icon as a bass singer, and his music being a personal interest of mine. More power to people who love Pentatonix, but I wish they had a little more creative juice in them than just the occasional good Christmas music.
I don't really like Matt as a bass. He doesn't really have the depth and thickness in his lower range. That being said, he does have an absolutely gorgeous baritone voice. His voice is like butter...just so slick and smooth.
Unpopular opinion : Pentatonix was decent only when Avi was there. I am one of the folks that doesn't like their music. But the bass used to be really good back then...
Not that unpopular. Avi was an actual bass (not a baritone) and incredibly gifted. Matt is not as talented or as low. I don’t care if he stays or goes, but I hope they get a low bass again in the future. Their sound is missing that depth.
I can appreciate the talent but imho they're overrated and just not my cup of tea. I did like them for two seconds in the beginning but it quickly faded.
I loved the group, though when Avi left, I pretty much left with him. His solo performances are top notch and his originals are absolutely fantastic. I'm sure to still listen to Pentatonix when ever they pop up on the Tube, but I consider Avi to be one of the greatest solo artists of our time, and where such talent goes, I follow...
Avi is an amazing artist, and I’m glad that he was able to do what he needed with his family and kick off a solo career. Matt Sallee is a good fit with Pentatonix in his stead, and they are just as good in a slightly different way. And we get Avi, Kirsten, and Kevin solo projects, SuperFruit, and evolving Pentatonix music, so that fans ultimately win.
Avi was a huge part of their arranging. Just listen to his solo music and you see why. He arranges everything you hear in his tracks. So with Avi, 3 Grammys. No Avi, how many Grammys? Right.
I've been a Pentaholic since I saw them on The Sing-Off back when I was a highschooler in 2011. I wasn't really into a cappella, but I've always loved music. I think it was the first or second time I had tuned in to the show and I caught their "Video Killed the Radio Star" performance. For some reason I just knew they were going to win after that performance and wanted to hear everything they did after that, so I was hooked. I even made mixtapes of their Sing-Off performances for my friends, lol. When Avi left I was pretty devastated (I also was going through some personal things) and I stopped keeping track of them for a while after that. I guess I thought it meant the end of the road for them altogether and didn't want to face the change along with the personal things I was dealing with. But I ended up going to another concert of theirs in 2018 with a friend and I feel like it reignited my love for them. Matt is a PERFECT fit, and I'm so happy to be keeping up with them again. I am freakin over the moon with how their latest original album turned out and so excited to see what else they have in store for us! Thanks so much for this background video, you did them justice! ❤️❤️❤️ would love to see a video covering their work with Matt and their newest original stuff!!!
If anything pentatonix already peaked. Now they use too much layering and sounds that are almost pushing the boundaries of acapella and makes it hard to tell if it is
Yep! His dad jokes after their 2nd grammy "so, when are you going back to medial school?" 😂 but they are very nice and supportive and I think at least one of Kevins siblings are in the medial field as their parents! 😂
My daughter surprised me for my birthday with tickets for Pentatonix in concert Dec 6 in Indianapolis! I so enjoyed their harmonies and talents! 10,000 plus in attendance and we all had our phone lights in at one point and the energy was amazing! By the way… my grandson joined us that night as well… he really is into this group as well. It was a night to remember, 3 generations together enjoying the same music/experience!!! This says a lot about how far their music is appreciated by all ages… 15, 46, 71!! Thanks Pentatonix! You are all loved! ❤❤❤❤❤
I think they were dropped from the recording guys is because it was a scam. They got all the publicity from, oh we are super, we’re signing up the winners! While thinking, when all the publicity dies down, we’re dropping these unknowns. Well, the jokes on them.
I absolutely love Pentatonix. They are so talented. Everything they do is phenomenal It just sickens me that Kirsten destroyed her mouth doing the enlargements. It's just gross ... too bad she was adorable. Now just disgusting.
Matt, for me, saved PTX making it possible for fans to continue enjoy their music. He has been with them 4 years out of PTX's 10 years of existence. Wish there was longer time for him in this video
Pentatonix is amazing! I remember binge watching much of their earlier RU-vid content. And I finally know what happened to Avi, I’ve been away too long. That said, you could easily do another video titled, “The Evolution of Mitch” lol. Dude has a complete altered look every time I see him.
He made the bass line so awesome and completed the well rounded portion of their music. Someone that has that type of voice will be missed and it shows how well Pentatonix has adapted. Too bad it will never be the same as he will be missed. The new singer is not bad, just does not have the range of Avi
Really, the the first two guys' last names rhyme with "enjoying" and "glossy"? So the first A in "Kaplan" make the first syllable a different spelling of "cap" and the second is a schwa, huh? I thought so! Thank you for making the surnames' pronunciations clear. However, it's not clear how Avi's longer first name (Avriel) was really pronounced.
I just never understood the label, why to offer a recording contract as the price for a... drumroll... ACAPELLA competition??? if they'll then drop them Duh
My husband Ronnie & I watched them on the competition show. We loved that all groups were a cappello! It was something new & dfft! & the first time we heard PENTATONIX, we looked at ea other & knew that they were IT! They won, which we weren't surprised by, but were absolutely elated from!!!! We have tried to keep up w them, altho it became increasingly difficult & then impossible as Ronnie became sicker. He passed away October 17th 2019.....& my life changed forever! But I still look up & give Ronnie a wink when I hear something! "We knew them when..."
Their label dropped them in 2011? I guess that is what you expect from idiot label execs. The whole music scene would improve if the old school dinosaur labels just went away. Pentatonix deserves every bit of their success. World class talent combined with tireless effort make them unstoppable. They have literally redefined what acapella music can be in the 21st century.
Incredible that those three talents found each other in the same high school. I wonder if they ever performed for their classmates. Mitches weight fluctuation is a little scary but hope he is well and love his crisp clear voice. Just can't get enough of them when they sing a quality piece for all time like Sound of Silence and Hallelujah.
I love them, but the one album of originals then it seems like the only thing I hear from them is covers. Which are great. But you know, it gets boring.
They have 2. They also had an album in the works around the time avi left but had to scrap and write new stuff because legalities about ownership of the songs and such.
Not once did they mention that Kevin and Avi wrote songs with them or on their own, some of their most successful ones I might add! They also insulted Tory Kelley which I'm sure PTX would not appreciate!
I met my boyfriend because of Pentatonix ! One day I posted a Pentatonix song on my Facebook page..he saw it, liked it and commented that he loved the group... none of my regular friends knew who they were. We started talking that day and have been together ever since. We just had our first anniversary 🥰.
