And that’s our Kevin, basically playing the cello and the drums at the same time! He’s a major musician - concert-level cellist, beatboxer extraordinaire and a sweet, sweet voice - and so much more. He graduated with a pre-med degree from Yale just before joining PTX and can also speak fluent Mandarin. I’m tickled to see two new guys discover his talent, I enjoyed your reaction very much! Peace …
Kevin is a genius! And a genuinely wonderful human being. He and his wife just welcomed their 2nd child, a son, earlier this summer. The idea behind this video was it was supposed to suggest an old-style family portrait, so they were supposed to be fairly still while singing. Scott (tall blond) is known for singing with his whole body, using his hands a lot. You can see him holding tight to the chairs in front of him to keep from moving around. He still manages to use his elbows some while singing :) They have covered so many genres, and have great original music, too!
Their original "Run to you" is an AMAZING but often overlooked song ❤ No fancy beatbox or tricks, just amazing 5 part harmony that will stop you in your tracks ❤
PTX recommendations: when they competed in the Sing Off, their original song “Sing”, their upgrades of “Mary Did You Know”, “Can’t Hold Us”, “Problem”, “90s Dance Medley”, “Bohemian Rhapsody”, and “Evolution of Michael Jackson”… you are a Pentaholic now and you cannot go wrong with any of their music (originals or covers)
I think Kevin calls it "cello boxing" and he is obviously so talented! Oh, and he can also sing! I believe he graduated premed at Yale just before Pentatonix approached him. Their Kiss From A Rose is phenomenal!
If you really want to know just how talented Kevin, the beatboxer is, watch Pentatonix Extravaganza 2022/ Kevins’s Fifth! It will truly blow your mind! Enjoy! Gail
You need to see Hollywood bowl from September 29, 2022. Kevin is fricken incredible. We were there!!! We're seeing them for the 4th time on September 14th..They are truly unbelievable!!!!!❤
It is so much fun to watch someone discover the absolute incredible talent of PTX‼️ You guys have no idea what you’re in for. I’m 70 years old and I put my headphones on and listen to them several times a week. Last summer I saw them live! Yes, they are just as fucking amazing live as they are in their videos. Please look up Kevin Olusola, the beat boxer/cellist and listen to DOWN! Then listen to PTX’s version of Kiss From A Rose. 🤯 The Pentatonix rabbit hole is very deep and impossible to climb out of! Have fun‼️
I love your reactions. I want more. Please react to amazing Grace, bohemian rapsody, kiss from a rose, o holy night. Please react to all of the songs from pentatonix. 😀😀
I have a decent amount of musical knowledge, and I enjoy reactors with the same or more who can comment on chord progression or dissonance, or 50 other musical terms. But here is what has earned you guys my sub: YOU FEEL THIS just like I do. And you don't have to know all those terms to express it. "How the F does she sound so soft?" Not "breathy", not "in her chest voice", but soft. because that'sthe way it FEELS. Keep up the great work, guys! I thoroughly enjoy your reactions!!!
Recommend their cover of Bohemian Rhapsody. Also, during Pentatonix concert intermissions, Kevin will do something with the cello. Recommend Kevin’s Fifth from their 2022 Christmas concert tour. Link: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-DbCasvcNx78.htmlsi=7E7ZXo2rts0Mxo6T
"Mary did you know" is another great example of Kevin's vocal talent, and his solo cover of "Down", where he plays the cello and piano, beatboxes, AND sings is one you should definitely check out when you get time.
I love PTX. I love listening to them live too. But what you’re hearing here is a combo of amazing talent, Ben Bram’s production and Ed Boyer their sound engineer. They take these incredible voices and stack the background vocals and percussion to produce this sound. You can watch them do it on their Making of Evergreen short film they did a few years ago.
Keep reacting to PTX! You guys are going to be amazed by their catalog. They don't do covers, they do upgrades! Also watch the Sing off during the season they were on it! They were baby tonics then, but they are have always been so amazing!
O thank you. Their harmonies are so great. They (counting Matt as well) are such great puzzle pieces for the most intricate beautiful puzzle ever. Kevin is "cello boxing " guys. Greetings from South Africa
About Kevin (beatboxer/cellist): He's actually singing at the start of Hallelujah, whenever the group comes in as a chorus behind Scott (first singer, tall blond) and then Avi (beard and beanie). But once he drops the beat, he's busy with that.
Thank you for acknowledging Kirstins voice. It is beautiful and has such clarity to it. She is often over shadowed by Mitch, but she is seriously talented.
Ya'll wanna hear the Greatest Guitar Player on the face of the Planet. Live at El Macombo Texas Flood. My brother Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble. ❤❤❤❤
another group just as worthy is Home Free! an all-male country, a capella group known for their original music as well as covers! you can't go wrong with either group!!
You need to check out their other songs: 90’s Dance Medley, Popspring 2016 LIVE, Bohemian Rhapsody, Havana, SING, Ceiling Can’t Hold Us (Macklemore) and their medley songs: Michael Jackson Medley, Beyoncé, Ariana Grande and Rihanna. There are hundreds of songs they do, both covers and originals.
Amazing reaction guys! If you want to be absolutely blown away by Pentatonix, I highly recommend you react to their 90's Dance Medley...I can assure you you will lose your shit over it! Much love and respect to you guys, from Quebec, Canada 🇨🇦⚜️
Kevin Olusola is amazing. Thanks for your fun reaction. You would really like Kevins cover of DOWN. Not to be missed. Also, he spent time at Beijing University and is fluent in Mandarin.
The beatboxing cellist is Kevin Olusola, he has a you tube channel of his solo stuff. He's incredibly talented! I recommend his covers of "Down" by Marian Hill, Harry Styles' "Sign of the Times," or Michael Jackson's "Human Nature." They will blow your mind 🎉

Kevin is a One-Man-Band. He is the only "Celloboxer" in the business... because he CREATED IT !!! Beat boxing while playing the cello is his forte. BUT, Kirstin.... DANG... That girl has got some PIPES !! She has to cut through all those guys singing and all the noises Kevin is making AND the cello too!!! Now if that don't impress you... WHAT WILL ???? Somebody give Kirstin some love !! You guys NEED to check out Kiss From a Rose next. Keep going down this PTX rabbit hole and you will be included in as a "PENTAHOLIC" !! Enjoy.
I am enjoying your reactions to PTX!!! They have a video out that shows them behind the scenes working on their album, Evergreen. It is a great way to catch them working together on their last album. Also they also have older videos of them behind the scenes on their earlier world tours.
It was a joy to see you react to this - now, you know the foundation of PTX, you have so much good stuff ahead- including the beatboxer, Kevin Olusola's solo work. Other headlining a cappella groups include Voice Play (who do movie/drama music) and Home Free (who specialize in country music). Prepare to be further amazed.
Little Drummer Boy was how I discovered them. Carol of the Bells is also incredible. Scott, Mitch, and Kirstey went to high school together. They found Kevin and Avie on RU-vid, and they went on The Voice and won. The first day of the contest was actually the first time they'd all met person. 😮
Haha i love this reaction!! There's not a song that they don't kill!! Also so glad you all are appreciating Kevin!! He is absolutely talented..Not much he can't do!! Also can speak other languages!!
On a regular basis I'm like it's seriously not fair how much talent these people have. But Kevin is above and beyond. Like seriously leave some talent for the rest of humanity 😂
Say Something has a permanent place in my top 5 Pentatonix songs of all time - and that's saying something, considering all of the great music they've created over the years! Yes, Kevin (the beatboxer) invented the technique of "cello-boxing", playing the cello while beatboxing at the same time. In fact, a viral RU-vid video of Kevin doing just that at college is how the group that would become Pentatonix found him in the first place (that YT video is still around, in case you're interested). He is an amazing musician, with his own RU-vid channel (KO) where he sings, beatboxes, plays cello, and mixes it all on the fly! One trivia bit that makes this song even more impactful: when Pentatonix started out, Kirstin generally preferred to stay more in the background singing harmony rather than to be the up-front singer, and this video is from that period of time - so her performance is even more impressive given that!
Two of the members have a channel called Superfruit and they have an awesome cover of a Katy Perry song called rise with three other artists and that one is in memory of the victims of the Florida Pulse club shooting. They also have some super funny skits like defying gravity and Frozen melody. So worth checking out. Kevin is even more talented then you have seen yet. Watch their cover of kiss from a rose live VEVO performance. It’s definitely a huge rabbit hole. So happy I just found your channel. Love your reactions
Kevin is Chuck Norris level in music. This music video is a trick to make you think this was a group effort. In reality, Kevin was doing all 5 parts simultaneously. K.O. is legend.
Welcome to the wonderful rabbit hole of Pentatonix. You ain’t seen nothing yet!! New subscriber. Here to experience your journey to becoming a Pentaholic.
PTX set the standard, but I think you would enjoy Voiceplay also. As well as Home Free. Kevin is in his own category, but they both have beat boxers that are unreal.
Congratulations! You've just been K.O.'d. Kevin invented cello boxing. And face it, he's a musical genius alien unicorn. Moving on. PTX is known for their layering and wall of sound. This is a prime example. Yes. Kevin can sing. He can also tell what notes he snaps his fingers at. He didn't know that he could sing until he and Avi moved in together. They discovered that Kevin is a tenor, and then Mitch took over teaching him. Enjoy the eargasms
Ok. I just watched your 3 PTX videos and I'm sold. Subscribed to follow this journey! ❤ And wait til they find out about all the sing-off and masked singer videos 😳🤷🏻♀️😂
