I absolutely loved your response to this song. You got Mitch slapped. Everyone is. The entire group is an exposition of excellence. They display why they are a three time Grammy Award accapella singing group. I just subscribed to your reaction channel. Most people do not realize that this song by Simon and Garfunkel describes a nuclear explosion and the tens of thousands walking aimlessly. And afterwards all that is known of it are the words written on the subway walls and tenement halls, and became known as the words of the Prophets trying to tell the future generations to avoid what happened. A wonderful rendition!
@@MBReacts Sadly so, with countries testing long range missiles and other countries wanting to have more power. And the fact that the opening line says, " Hello darkness my old friend, I've come to talk to you 'again', means that we've had this talk before. P. S. - thank you for the pinning. First time that's ever happened to a comment I sent. The song has even more meaning to those of my generation during the Cold War, when as a child, I participated with my other classmates the ' duck ( under our desks ) and cover ( our faces and eyes against breaking class windows and blindness that can come from seeing the blast ) exercises. It was a scary time back then. Especially for children. People even built fall out shelters in their back yards. This was back around the early 1960's.
You are exactly the reason that I click on these response videos and then immediately exit. The “Mitch Slap” is so stupid, when everyone else is so fantastic and even better than him in most cases
I'm not even 2 min into your video, but I love how you sat back, thinking you were going to relax but the minute Scott started singing, you leaned forward and your eyes got huge. Those are some of my favorite things about watching reactors
Scott has been covering the bass line whenever Avi (now Matt) has the lead vocal for years (Hallelujah is a perfect example) - but this song is where people really noticed that he can sing quite low. He’s got a crazy range!
**THERE ARE LITERALLY NO WORDS IN MY ENGLISH VOCABULARY, THAT CAN DESCRIBE THIS GROUP!!!** ❣ I have also come to the conclusion, that Mitch is an Alien, from the planet of WTF 🙃 😊🙃 I truly love how Pentatonix will put their own spin on a song, yet still manage to keep the integrity & respect the original artist....((LOVED YOUR REACTION))
Thank you for the exceptional quality of the sound during the performance. It adds SO much to the review and commentary, because they SHOULD still be at the center during any reaction video.
They are AMAZING, aren't they? And just to blow your mind even more... while Kirstie is singing her solo part, MITCH is doing those high harmonies you can hear in the background. He's just that good.
Fantastic Reaction! It’s so nice to see a reactor get lost in the vocals! Mesmerizing indeed! They trust each other with timing & volume & harmonies... a direct extension of the close relationships within the band. They are celebrating a decade together with the release of their 2nd originals album. Each of the 11 tracks are phenomenal! Lots of experimentation with sounds. Highly recommend.
You reaction was incredible. There are many Pentaholics and we all still get goosebumps hearing them sing. They are sooooooo talented. Each one of them is very talented, but together they are magic. Scott has an incredible range.
When Matt comes in with his solo, you can hear Scott take over bass. They are all incredible with their vocal range. I love Scott's bass in the beginning as well. Matt is also incredible.
I heard many of these songs when they first came out as I was a child of the 50's & 60's. Simon & Garfunkel, Percy Sledge, Marvin Gay, Moody Blues Led Zeppelin - does not even scratch the surface of what I have heard first hand on radio and even in concerts. To see them resurface today, in covers by many fine new groups, Pentatonix, Home Free, Peter Hollens, Face, and many more - is more than gratifying. It makes me wonder, will the new songs of today, by many of these same groups who are producing new songs of their own, Pentatonix, Be My Eyes, Home Free, Everything Will Be Okay, When you walk in, etc and others... How will the people of the 2050.s 60's and 70's react to the new music of today.
This song is one of my all time favourites. I heard this version yesterday for the first time when my son was playing it through Spotify. I went and asked him about it, he told me it was a Pentatronix cover. He restarted it and he and I sang along together with it. I love the original, I love Disturbed’s version and this: this version is the best. Absolutely beautiful.
I agree with you, their version of this song is simply amazing! You know that the music is good when it touches your soul and leaves you wanting more! Great reaction!
Sorry we forgot to warn you how otherworldly they are. We are sorry not sorry that you are about to go down the extraordinary rabbit hole that is PTX. Welcome to the family!
More than pleasant to the ears. With this song they are almost literally pouring pure Beauty into your ears! So headphones are a must to catch every drop of it!
I love seeing how their music touches your soul. Your appreciation for the details is priceless. One of the best reactions to Pentatonix that I’ve seen.
@@MBReacts As a OG fan of PENTATONIX I get VERY EMOTIONAL when I see these kind of reactions from new fans!. And reactions like yours make it feel like I'm watching them for the first time!!. PENTATONIX IS THE GREATEST VOCAL GROUP!!💥
I love your reaction to this song , You really understand what music is , you don't need to understand the words music is understood by the Soul it is a universal language.
Your sound system while viewing is 3-4 times better than any other 'reaction' I've heard, and really adds to the experience. And my 'first reaction', two years ago was exactly the same as yours : Holy S. . . , I've GOT to hear that again! And, every time since is almost like that first.
If you haven't done them yet, you should check out their cover of John Lennon's "Imagine". It's incredible. As well, "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" from the Lion King movie.
Their version of Imagine gives me chills every time. Not everyone understands what they’re doing with the cards (which I can’t imagine-pun definitely not intended), but I get chills every single time I watch the video. Also, John Lennon would be so proud!
I'll be a rather a rather unusual new subscriber in that I found Pentatonix approx. 3 months ago! How that is possible I can't explain. This group has more than 1/2 billion hits on one of their songs!! WHAT?? Anyway, I loved your reactions and subscribed immediately. I won't embarrass myself with mentioning my age, but I was dancing to Simon & Garfunkel's original version of their song in the 1960s. Please keep up your good work!
Amazing job on the reaction. I'm glad to see you've done Amazing Grace which came out before Christmas. I will add tht Kirsten's vibrato has so much control to it now, as I think you noticed it in Amazing Grace. Kevin Olusola has a version of Down you need to react to as well
Hey MB ... in today's Covid-muddles world, some days are harder than others ... and today wasn't a good one ... But PTX music helps a bit, and then tripping across your earnest, honest, heartfelt response .... magic .... thx for your response - will look forward to more from you .... Stay healthy
Thanks for doing this one! Your reaction the first time hearing this was similar to my own. It touched me in a very emotional way as well. Their talent is amazing and they are so versatile as evidenced in their catalog. Please check out their original Run to You as well as some tracks from their new original album. My fav. Of the new bunch is Coffee in Bed. Well worth a listen. Subscribed for more acapella content.
There are 5 m3mbers in this my favorite group . If you get a chance go see them live AMAZING" is all I can say , seen the 2Xs hoping to make it 3 soon ! Ty for watching this !
Yea so, you definitely just got a sub from me. You reacted EXACTLY the way I did. Particularly with Matt / Scott / and Kirsten. Scott really showed off his low range here. Kirsten was inspiring, her lead section felt alive. Matt.... what an introduction. He was the MVP in my opinion. If felt like you could feel his soul through his voice.
I subbed off this first reaction. Thank you for appreciating and understanding music. I watched your face when Matt was singing and went down “umpteen” octaves straight back down to hold the baseline in less than a second. Watching you enjoy them like this and especially appreciating their work the way you do…..earned an instant subscribe from me, and I don’t sub to just any reactors. Job VERY WELL DONE!!
New subscriber here! I really enjoyed watching your reaction! ❤️ Pentatonix is epic in everything they do. They really have a way of moving you and taking you on a musical journey.
Welcome to the world of the Pentaholic. The group started as a trio (Scott. Kirsten and Mitch) . Tried to enter an a capella competition, but were turned down because the minimum number for a group was five. So they found Avi (basso profundo) and Kevin (Cello box) and re entered the competition (which is somewhere on RU-vid). I think the competition was called The Sing Off, it is worth viewing.
Yes, it was 'The Sing Off' and you can find a YT video that is all of their performances.... They won and the next season was won by another of my top 3 acapella groups, Home Free. You should check out Home Free's version of Ring of Fire, it features previous Pentatonix bass Avi Kaplan. And if you want another rabbit hole... VoicePlay is my 3rd in the top acapella groups.
MB, PTX has a way of elevating ANY song they do, whether it's a cover or original and as a Pentaholic I appreciate all of their talent. In addition to that, I had to acknowledge Ben Bram who does most of the arranging. It truly takes a musical genius to keep the integrity of a song but also to put the PTX spin on it and bring it more to life! All involved are blessed with a gift. And if you ever get a chance to see them live, it is a MUST!!!
@@MBReacts obviously they made MANY videos between the time they did Hallelujah and The Sound of Silence and IMO, this song had as much passion. Not to say the vids in between didn't but this 1 seemed magical to me. Now, since they made this, MANY of their vids have been just as powerful. You can definitely tell that over the years they became Master Class level in their sound and video production!
Thank you for mentioning who does most of their arranging! I could tell it was one person, and I also knew that whoever they were, they were a genius! Figuring out just how to best use such amazing voices must be a joy for someone as talented as Bram obviously is.
@@gwydion56 it really is a truly collaborative process. PTX starts the arranging process by singing through the song and choosing the beat, bass lines and general feel of the song. They also decide who will solo and moments they want to emphasize. They then send that recording along with all the notes back to Ben Bram who takes all that information and creates the sheet music that all the members can work from to make the finishing touches.
🧡 Pentatonix. This performance really moved you, MB. Me too. It might explain your need to hug a pillow. PTX took this classic and blew it the hell up. Like Gabriel Henrique, they can do covers to their hearts' content. They each will put their own spin on them to make them new again. Would you like a fun one that will send you over the edge in the opposite way? Check out their rendition of "Bohemian Rhapsody." Can't wait for your reaction to that one. Stay safe!
This is phenomenal. I'm in tears. Everyone in the group kills on this. How have I missed this? Best thing Scott's done, and everyone is right there with him. Wow! It just gets better with these guys.
I love how emotionally you have appreciated this, very quickly stopped speaking but kept rewinding sections and then played a 2nd time and the pillow. :) You have to continue the PTX journey with Daft Punk and Dance of the Sugar plum Fairy (Grammy performances), Bohemian Rhapsody, Love Again and Sing. You should check Superfruit (Mitch and Scott) doing Defying Gravity (watch to the end) Rise (Read descriptions for context) and Future Friends and GUY.exe are really fun, as is all there stuff, look forward to more! :)
I came to see you react to PTX and I wasn’t disappointed. I love your involvement and expressiveness. Excellent reaction! You have a new subscriber. I think you would like their “happy now“ and “say something“ as well.
Can you please react to pentatonix. The feeling cant hold us they rap in this song and love again . Daft punk. Cheerleader. Havana. Gold . New rules. Mary did you know. Radio active. . Rather be. Also scott hoying and mario jose lost on you
You should check out their beginnings on the Sing-Off; you will learn a lot about how they came to be Pentatonix. As well as see them begin to show the world their stay power and determination to be The Best
Simon and Garfunkel released this in 1965. I remember when I 1st heard it then, and I love that all these years later people are still doing covers and moving people like you.
Beautiful voices and beautiful interpretation. As soon as I heard the first sentence of the song I remembered that I had already heard it in a Portuguese version. In the Portuguese version the song is called It is for you that I sing by the duo Leandro and Leonardo. but it doesn't even compare to that version. I loved this version of Pentatonix, just incredible.
Scott is a lyric baritone. When describing a male vocal range, "lyric" means that the range is actually greater than the nominative range. What this means in Scott's case is that the lower end of his range is well into the bass range, and the upper end is well into the tenor range. On an official video, like this one, the bass singer will record a separate track that contains the bass part of the harmony line that goes with the arrangement for his solo, and they'll layer that in when they're mixing it in the studio. But they can't do that in live performances, so in live performances Scott takes over the bass harmony line whenever the bass has a solo. Matt is a lyric bass. Judging by what I heard from him at their concert in Denver on November 20, 2022 his lowest note is currently as low as anything I ever heard from Avi (and we all know that Avi's lowest note would blow out speakers in live performances) and his highest note is somewhere in the tenor range. Mitch's range is slightly greater than 6 octaves, but he's most comfortable in his higher registers. Kirstin is officially a mezzo soprano, but in reality she can sing anything that was written for a female voice, from alto through coloratura soprano. And Kevin has a lovely tenor voice, but I've occasionally heard him sing (briefly) in the baritone range (mostly in those videos where the group is just goofing around, and he decides to startle them).
I loved your reaction this song gets me everything. And Kevin's beat boxing is superb this song gives me chills. Good job on your video I'm definitely subscribed
I've seen their videos so many times but I love watching their gifts wash over new listeners. Watching w/ u today made me cry like a baby. I guess I was in my feelings & ur reaction made the tears flow the entire video. My brother Thank you! I'll check out if u did any others PTX. U better!lol.😭💕🙏🏻✌🏼👏🏻
1st singer is Scott the baritone. Next Kristin the only female. Bass is Matt. Mitchell or Mitch high tenor. Percussion is Kevin aka beat boxer. The original artist is Simon & Garfunkel
