Who is trying to work Film photography back in their paid work, or who is wanting to just go all in with film? I've been thinking about how I could do that my self. I may have some content coming soon.
I'm still a student and not working as a professional, but I got a paid commission a few weeks ago, were I shot a bunch of pics for a buddy of mine and his business. I also shot all the photos on film and it was a nice experience, having someone appreciating to get his photos taken on film, even tho not being that much into photography. Great video as always👍
Nice video ! And great family portaits! Pentax 67 is gorgeous .... 😊. I’m pro film photographer (only shooting film) but recently tired of paying so much for film so going to get a digital medium format to compliment my work
@@HayesPeterson Fujifilm GFX50S! These cameras are the only way to get close to pentax 67 look. I’m going to use my SMC 105mm f/2.4 from Pentax 67 on GFX 50S to get practically same image. Gfx 50s and 50R have film simulation inside with most of current film stock. Which is incredible. The only way to get the same Pentax 67 look is to get f/1.4 lens on GFX50S , for example Mitakon 65mm f/1.4 which is equivalent to 105mm f/2.4 on Pentax 67, or equivalent to roughly 50mm f/1.1 on full frame. But I don’t have this lens yet so I’m going to use my Nikon 85mm f/1.4G on GFX50S which is equal to 67mm f/1.1 ... same DOF as 105mm f/2.4 on pentax 67.
@@Pentax67 That camera looks amazing! Some day I'd like to do the same, even if it's just the 50s or 50r. That new 80mm lens they have looks amazing too.
I honestly want to make the jump to mostly film in my paid work. I dont know how to find the pricing point where I can make a profit and cover cost of film just yet though
I’m the complete opposite of paid work... this hobby costs me thousands. LOL But... I put out my first film zine on Blurb last month, and I’m in the draft stages of my first book of street photography. So I finally feel like I accomplished something tangible, something more than some Instagram posts that people scroll by and forget 5 seconds later. Nice photos in this video!
Thanks for sharing. I like the idea. I don't know the extent of what you shot and what your day looked like, so this comes from a very narrow score of view on my end. I'm noticing a lot of distance in the frame and composition. Maybe try more depth of field? Did close ups really not work out regarding focus? I would be less concerned with nailing the tiniest depth of field- although, certainly an accomplishment with children, it's not most important for parents. Expression is. Side note: for an intimate look inside these people's lives, it would be good to get them at home. eating breakfast, playtime, bath and bedtime. Depending on how far they are, it could be nice to show up enough that everyone is used to you and their guard is down for closer more intimate pictures. Anyway. When critiquing/getting critiqued, my colleagues and I grade each other on the following: Storytelling- Seeing/feeling the relationships or the character of individuals Technical- Focus, resolution, proper exposure (where you thrive) Innovation- Camera angles, ideas or concepts, changing lighting, or lenses or scene Lighting- Expression- Are they happy? Let's see that. Work on everyone being happy altogether. Difficult. Not impossible. Also, mother's expression is the most important in most cases, even over the baby's expression. Just what i've noticed. Unless there are no options, i'm not including bad expressions for the client's. Composition- Composition of the frame, tight shots, loose shots. Composition of the body and bodies together. Always a difficult task, but don't shoot unless it's right. How do you feel you've done in these categories? p.s. If you want to make your client's feel special, don't call it VIP. It feels corporate, and from what I can tell, that's not how you want to represent.
@@Dannnnnnnnnyy Wow, Thanks for the insight Denny. I'm happy to say that I've worked with this Family for the past year and a half and all those points you've said have been met. ;) This particular video was a practice/experiment with the Pentax. That being said I do need to work on keeping all those points for connection in mind while shooting with film too. I got to know, Are you a member of PPA or something? ;) I'm open to suggestions for the "VIP" naming. It's not set in stone yet. Thanks again man, appreciate it.
I have the Pentax 67,canon eos 1n,5d mkii. I just got into film and I’m loving it. I work full time in the pubic safety sector so I do this for a hobby for family and friends. Tell them I’m taking pictures of them on film does give a wow factor and they are happy with the quality of the photos. I always tell them if there looking for a photographer ask them if they ever shot film. Reason being I believe Photograpny that have shot film shoot better in general. What are your thoughts on that?
I kind of agree with that. Photographers that have shot film may have that better knowledge of the camera setting and light. ( I would think, maybe not the lighting.) Stoked you're loving film. What film stock do you like using more?
@@aram4854 Love the Portra line. If you like to stick with color try some Cinestill or Lomography film. The Cinestill is really like by a lot of peeps but it's more $$.
Great photos, but wow, you made shooting family portraits with kids on 120 look much easier than I expected!! Always been my one area of photography I won't bring medium format into out of absolute fear haha! Im a hobbyist who probably averages 1 shoot a month, but I'm trying to seriously build my portfolio and get more work this year! I don't do any paid work on film, but I do sell prints which include film and digital!
@@HayesPeterson thanks man!! I just started selling prints but I'm real happy with the reception so far! I do mostly landscapes with probably about 20% of my stuff being portraits, but I really want to get better at portraits! I have a few models booked for the end of the month so I'm trying to get on that train a bit too!
@@jakeperusich2174 Perfect! I'm always trying to get shoots set up for more practice. I wanna work to a whole new portfolio this year. Best of luck with your pursuits this year.
