First of all, thank you soooo much for this video it’s so helpful. I recently bought this beast at a thrift store with ALL 6 Lenses, the winder, the flash and some other stuff for only 35$!. And I would’ve been so lost reading the manuals online but your video definitely saved me. Thanks again !
Thanks so much for these videos. My nephew just sent me his Auto 110 complete in the box. We both had this camera back in the 80's. Mine is long gone, he still had his. I was especially wondering where the batteries were. Very helpful video.
Really appreciate your in-depth videos -- some of the very few RU-vid videos longer than 10 minutes that I watch! I have two Sears SL-9 35mm SLRs (supposed to be a rebadged Ricoh 35 Flex) -- which have fixed lenses, but look like typical SLRs of the period -- but they have a mirror/shutter/door as well. So when the back is open you see the diagonal back of the mirror -- just like the Auto 110. One of these works great -- the other has a "slow" mirror -- it pops up fairly quickly, but always takes a second or two to drop back down.
Thank you! The stocky mirror is probably due to gummy lubricating oils (either they froze or dust built up in them.) Ricoh made some nice cameras back in the day.
Nice set of videos! One other option out there to expand the versatility is close-up lenses! Pentax actually made a series of them: two levels of mag for the telephoto, two levels for the standard, and one level for the wide. I got a nice deal on my set from eBay, but they're usually somewhat pricey when they do pop up.
I once blew up a 110 b/w image to a 4 foot mural. It was beautiful. Grainy yes but a candid of a friends wedding and completely unlike all digital images the hired pro produced.
Owned the Minolta 110 which came with a non-interchangeable zoom lens, somehow got damaged and in an effort to repair it was lost, still have photos from my honey moon some 40 years ago taken with it.Manufacturers soon abandoned the format, pity. This looks like a gem.
@@DavidHancock That camera was so radical in good looks and operation,I can only hope one comes your way David to put through its paces and review it with your usual thoroughness and insight!
Very cool. I had the Auto 110 gifted to me yesterday, all I need is film and Im good to go, should be fun 🤩 It came wth a strobe and a motor drive if you can believe that. Thanks for making the video David !
@@DavidHancock thx David, I have my order in for several Lomography film stocks. Here is the thing. Getting it processed here is near an impossibility. Do you know where I can get a 110 film reel for a tank, I have metal and plastic tanks. Just asking…..many thanks 🙏
The Auto 110 Super has a few different features. It has a one stroke film advance,a self timer, and an exposure compensation button to increase exposure for back lit subjects. The 110 frame is within a fraction of a millimeter the same as a MFT sensor so the lenses will cover the MFT sensor with no vignetting.
Yea, they are lovely, I have 2 sets and shoot with them. loading my own Foma film in the 110 cart. Very good presentation, by the way, I specifically like that you pushed the limits of the system.
@@ivarnordlkken8082 I just got it last week. It's really good. I've been taking to the inventor about a redesign to allow it to fit the 70mm and hoping he'll make it for Sony E since the 24, 50, and 70mm lenses cover APS-C at some apertures.
Hey there! I was wondering if you happened to have links for the extra lenses/rings you showed in the video. I wanted to make sure I was getting the right gear. Thanks for making this video! awesome stuff. I have a Rollei A110 currently, I'm going to be getting a Pentax Auto 110 very very soon.
It's been a super long time since I made this video, but I think this is what you're looking for. All of these, FYI, are affiliate links: 49mm macro lenses for the 79mm lens: www.amazon.com/dp/B08ML449PW/ref=cm_sw_r_as_gl_apa_gl_i_D0YEZA2D0ZWMX9YFBVSD?linkCode=ml2&tag=5119llc-20 Step-ring set (make sure before getting step rings that the set has the filter thread you need, which would be the thread diameter of your lens to 49mm. This set may or may not have that, so you may be able to find a single ring only for less on eBay) amzn.to/3NO7NQ6
@@vancej.5686 I couldn't find the exact one, but here's an affiliate link to one that's probably exactly the same with a different name: amzn.to/3vDSNy2
David - nice video. Could you post what the tele and wide adapter make and model is? Also the Auto 110 lenses are awesome for Micro Four Thirds cameras too since 110 and MFT is roughly the same size. You have to be careful though with MFT since there is no aperture setting on these lenses so you're shooting wide open. Also some of the adapters leak. Also also there is an adapter that also has an iris built in that you can buy. I like the "add ons" bit at the end - nice.
Thank you! For the adapters, any 49mm set will work just fine. For digital use, I got my hands on an adapter (for M43) with aperture control and though the 70 won't mount on it the rest do. The 18mm is the only one which doesn't cover APS-C at some aperture setting (the mage circle size changes dramatically over the aperture range on these.)
They just say aux telephoto lens and aux wide-angle lens. The rings are generic step-up rings. For those, just look on eBay for step up ring and then the two diameters you need.
I have one of these cameras on the way. Great video. If you have affiliate links for the $8 worth of gear you purchased to expand this system, I'm happy to throw those pennies your way. :)
Thank you! I do not. I used to do affiliates but was only getting around $3-6/month in clicks (in a good month). Honestly, it wasn't worth my time to keep that updated. For me, the RU-vid ad revenue keeps this channel going.
Hello! I recently got one of these cameras secondhand and it was shooting normally for a couple shots but I clicked to take a picture at one point and the mirror (i think) never dropped. The viewfinder is black and the lever wont advance. Is there anyway to fix this?
@@DavidHancock I just put new ones in and nothing. After looking further online I think it’s actually the shutter not opening back up? Because I cant see through the back of the camera to the front when I take off the lens
Hello, I recently picked up this camera in a junk yard. I like to test it out, everything seems to be in good condition. Which film should I purchase? I have never owned a camera before and know nothing about this stuff. It just looks interesting
I went to shoot with my pentax 110 auto today. For some reason, I have to rewind four times before it locks to take another photo. I'm not sure how to read the numbers, it's sort of confusing.
That's curious. If the film comes back with every other frame blank then there is probably something wrong with the camera. The numbers that you read through the back are on paper within the 110 cassette itself. So you should be shooting each frame with a single number increase from the previous.
The battery tray? Yes, it's necessary. You can try holding batteries in place with some masking tape, but I'm not sure that would work. eBay would be the place to find one, but it might take some time. I suspect these are not common parts.
Has anyone tried pressing that button near the flash socket to set shutter speed to 1/30 second, when the red light shows? That's my solution. However, I develop with Diafine to squeeze out the image.
@@silastillotson5031 Most likely the gearing is messed up. That happened to me, too, with one of these. Honestly, it's cheaper to sell a broken one for parts and replace with a different one.
