The Pentax PC35AF-M is one of hundreds of early autofocus 35mm compacts that hit the market in the 1980s. But a few things - not least its chunky frame - set it apart from its competitors.

I just made a second hand deal with a photographer to buy his pc35af (non-m) for 30 euros. I think I made a good deal, but I don't know. It will be my first ever camera after I discoverd this summer how fun it is to shoot with a disposable camera.

Been shooting with mine for a couple of years and I love it. The beep can be disabled. Takes about 5-10 minutes to do, but you have to remove the top. If you can use a screwdriver, you can make the modification.

I bought one of these in 1983 or 84. What a wonderful point and shoot 35mm film camera. Mine is in mint condition and I wouldn't t ever want to part with it. Thanks for the video on this camera ...

This is one of the best value 35mm f/2.8 point and shoots out there. It's a bit chunkier but I love the focus scale, it lets me know where the camera is going to focus, I've missed focus on a lot of shots on my Mju II because I've had no idea what the camera is aiming at.

Just discovered one in my grandfathers closet, while he might have passed way back, I’ll continue shooting on his behalf. It even has half-shot film in it 😄

Had mine for over a year and paid £5 for mine! Wouldn’t get rid and it’s the camera I give to anyone who just wants to shoot some film :)

Lovely review! I just snagged one of these after looking for a nice lens/camera equivalent to the Olympus mju-ii. Wasn’t willing to pay the $$$ for the Oly and I found out about the Pentax PC35AF-M in my research; just scored a working one today. Excited to use it for a Japan trip soon! Question about the flash: do you have to hold that red switch down while pressing the shutter for the flash to go off? Or do you just press it once to have the flash physically pop up? (I noticed you pressed it down the same time as the shutter each time!) Thank you!!

Well, as luck would have it there's one in the Kosmo Foto Shop at the moment. You might be able to find one for cheaper, but this one has been film-tested and comes with a three-month warranty. I have two others I'm keeping. They're surprisingly good cameras.

They’re belting cameras, and frequently don’t work these days - I have a box full of broken ones. Mostly battery corrosion issues, but often they just don’t fire / advance when they feel like it. My dad bought one on the 80’s and I pestered him to take it on a school trip. It’s fell out of my pocket when I was running around like a teenage idiot and smashed the battery door off. I wasn’t popular 😁

Question: I bought one with a dateback. I'm assuming its non functioning, I don't see any way to set a date and have readsomewhere it stops at 2019, anyway. Question: is will there be a date stamp on the negative? I haven't processed the roll yet, thanks.

Hi Marie - I don't think so. If the databack no longer powers up there won't be any way for it to imprint onto the neg, as far as I know.

I found 2 of these at a junk shop once, and tragically both had been completely consumed by leaking batteries. A shame since they seemed so nice.

Take the top off and clean it with electrical contact cleaner. Mine worked after this.

Be aware that the later version named Mini-Sport AF-K has a three element lens, a downgrade from the brilliant five element glass on the original PC35AF and AF-M.

Been using one of these for a year. It's a bit all over teh place. sometimes it just cant focus at all and the entire image is blurry. usually about 1-5 images out of 36 are tack sharp, perfect images but hte rest are often underexposed and blurry. Good for bright sunny days where the light is clear but otherwise it doesnt perform that well, at least in my experience
