I think his confinement had to do with the aliens being afraid of him as much as he was afraid of them, perhaps (people are alike all over). Before later movies introduced to the people the idea that if aliens appeared the government would hide thus fact from the population and probably vivisect the aliens, the general assumptions was that if non-invading aliens appeared on Earth they would end up in a cage and people WOULD pay to see them, of course. After all, they did that to actual humans who held extremely physical characteristics in the "freaking shows ".
" After all, they did that to actual humans who held extremely physical characteristics in the "freaking shows " Excellent point Edison. Sure enough, people paid money to see them too. Thanks for watch, be well & have a good one.
I've lived in different states and could relate to his last statement-" People are Alike All Over". Seriously though, great episode and Susan Oliver was in that classic Star Trek episode.
I enjoy space exploration episodes too. 50s and 60s were a time science fiction is booming. I enjoyed this episode because how humans see themselves as an intelligent and superior species, yet we let our hubris blind us. We wouldn't like it if we were treated as savages by another intelligent species, so we as humans should have humility and empathy.
Hey Bones wassup, thank you so much for checking in man. No doubt many of these still resonate because they have something to say...a commentary, that's why I love them. They are basically short stories, easy to digest and get a decent discussion going.
I watched this one again just last week. It's definitely a favorite of mine and I'm a big Roddy McDowall fan. I've often mentioned the mystery ones are my favorites, but space related episodes are very close. Both times I watched this one, I did though expect the Martians to show a true form at the end of the episode. At very least some antenna. Great job, as always. Excellent editing here.
Hey Mr. Gray. Roddy McDowall was great in this. I wish he'd been in more episodes of the series, I think this may be his only one. The martians revealing a true form would have been a cool additional twist. I like that. Thanks for watching. man. Be well.
@@FeverDreamlandTheater Had it been Outer Limits, I bet they would have shown a different form. Though I do like Twilight Zone a hair more, Outer Limits definitely had some great aliens and creatures.
I’m so glad I got the notification a few days ago that you put up another twilight zone review. Love when you do these! I’ll always remember seeing this when I was a kid and it was one of the first times Roddy McDowall out of his planet of the apes getup. So many other anthologies and TV shows have tried to capture this shock ending of a human being trapped in a zoo over the years but it was honestly best here. Dread followed by hope followed by despair. Never knew that about the short story though so I’m glad you cover that too. Nice job as always my friend you never disappoint!
Hey GCap! I find so many of us have fond memories or nostalgia attached to these classic TZ's. I'm always happiest talking about these on the channel. Be well, have a good weekend & thanks for watching!
What you mentioned about our pessimist being unable to read a room...I actually think the attitude and inability are connected. He just assumed he knew how the world was and so never bothered to learn better. And nothing but love for Roddy McDowell, who should also be rightly remembered for The Legend of Hell House, as scripted by Twilight Zone alum Richard Matheson from his own novel.
Agreed, Roddy was great in pretty much everything I've seen him in. After this review I rewatched Fright Night and that's mostly how that review came to be. "He just assumed he knew how the world was and so never bothered to learn better." That sounds about right to me. Thanks for watching Johnathan and I appreciate hearing your thoughts.
The Martian handshake had me on the floor 😂 so funny bro! But yeah, I don’t have a meaning behind the caging of our protagonist but I agree that it isn’t about zoos. There was nothing in what you showed me that would indicate some sort of commentary on animal confinement. But as always, missed the reviews bro! Great video!
The Twilight Zone is perfect for a rainy day, I love it. I've actually just started re-watching it recently. The last one I watched was Nightmare at 20,000 Feet. I'll have to watch your review of that next! Wonderful video and review!
Hey rainbowFRIGHT thanks so much, I appreciate it. Yeah the Nightmare at 20000 ft review was actually my first one ever, though I had to take it down and repost it later.
The one problem I had with is episode is that the astronauts did not look different from the aliens at all. It would have made more sense for them to be different in physical appearance. After all, caging beings that look exactly like you wouldn't be that exciting of an exhibit for the visitors to the zoo.
Susan Oliver played a remarkably similar character in Star Trek. The original pilot the Cage she played Vina who enticed and tricked Capt Pike into the cage of the title.
Hey Paul! Yes that's true! I ended up coming across that trivia a little later, but I mentioned it in my 'Freddys Nightmares' vid - that show was Susan's final appearance before passing away.
I always like your TZ Reviews. You do a nice job with your presentation and representation of the episodes, as well as adding nice little info trivia tidbits.
Im telling u right now u always have great uploads it never fails much love always. People think these shows wasnt lit they need to rethink and watch this. These was the days ❤
Roddy was a great actor and this one is an awesome episode! He was one of the teachers on the movie Class of 1984... There's a scene on that movie were he draws a gun in the classroom that is unforgettable. Excellent video, love these reviews.
Great episode review/analysis Anthony! Yet again another episode that proves TZ is such a seminal classic. I was gonna say that this one reminds me of planet of the apes but glad you mentioned it! 7:46 What the heck is that lol. Never saw anyone do that before haha
Another excellent video as always. I think what sticks out to me about this title is that it can be read as a good thing OR a bad thing depending on context and how you say it. I love that sort of thing
Hey Stillmore, always good to hear from you man. Hope you've been well. I agree, in this episode the cruel irony is really at play. As you mentioned, the title and personal perspective can be taken as good or bad all depending on context. 👍
I thought the same way as you, when the Martians were the same as the humans. I mean literally the a Roman from the empire would have been more different then these guys. No Martian would believe that this was a "Human" they would just assume he was a paid actor. lol Great video sir!! : )
Hey Scott thanks for watching. Been a while since I did a TZ review, feels like I'm home again....and very human looking Martians in togas are greeting me. Ha ha.
Once again great review! An early statement on animal captivity maybe, completely different feel when it’s reversed on humans.. love it! Aww man I loved Roddy McDowall. I never saw that Carol Burnett episode with him and I was sure I saw every episode. Fright Night is one of my faves.
This sounds like a super awesome episode! I agree that I also find myself even more interested in a TZ episode when they head into space! I loved hearing your thoughts on this one even I haven’t seen it yet! I still need to see fright night as it is very high on my watchlist! Sounds like an awesome movie that I know you have reviewed in the past! Great awesome work Anthony!
Heeey wassup Brad, always good to hear from you. Yup, I dig those space episodes, they really spark the imagination. Thanks for watching man, have a great weekend. 👍
Another amazing TZ video Ant! 👏 I always enjoy these even if I haven't seen the episode before! I'll have to add this to my watch list of episodes. I'm also a big fan of the space themed episodes 🙂
Shawn! Thanks for stopping by. Yeah for me all I need is a story about people in space dealing with insanity and you've got my interest. In this case, if there's a deeper meaning, social commentary or trivia to dive into then all the better.
They certainly have some awesome guest stars! :) As always this seems like it was certainly ahead of its times with some of its key themes! Loved the review! )
🤣😂🤣 LOL, yeah the old budget issue. For the most part I didn't mind, but it would have been cool to have more interesting / original costumes. On Star Trek there always seemed to be an excuse as to why a random planet looked like earth or was modeled after the 'old west' or something like that. But in reality, they were just making use of sets they had access to. Typically the stories in these classics shows are so good I give it a pass.
A bit of a shame McDowell's copilot had the name he did because all throughout it with his accent it sounded like he was saying "Moccasin" over and over! Haha!
@@OldAFReviewers You know whats funny, I was just watching your vid where you guys play 'whats in the box', there was a TZ I covered with the same title. I would have definitely thrown a clip in of you guys (if it was ok of course) had I made that review now. LoL. Anyway, I have zero doubt you guys will hit 1K as well.
that's okay just have it on good authority that he himself captured many humans and put them in cages and even put dead ones on display in a wax like museum they blew it all up
Dear person that's reading this, we don't know each others but I wish you all the best in life ❤️ don't ever blame yourself, accept things and go forward. Your smile is precious and a key for happy life. I believe in you, Love from a small RU-vidr! 🖤
