I would get a tea light votive holder and sink them in the plaster instead of just a tea light... That would allow you to put tea lights in and exchange them in out.
I was thinking the same thing without the Vaseline it would be more difficult to take out. ❤️ A small bit important detail worth mentioning. I also understand how easy it is forget.
The thing about plaster of Paris which is what they’ve used here, as it starts to thicken and set it gets warmer and warmer and can get hot enough to break glass. It also expands as it gets warm and sets so that will also break glass votives if you used them in the plaster.
Fifty years ago we cut tissue wrapping paper into squares, wrapped them around a pencil eraser and glued them to whatever shape we wanted. We made Christmas trees, stars, candy canes, anything you can imagine. If we had styro-foam forms we wrapped the tissue around the pencil point, stuck it in white glue and poked it INTO the styro-foam. Great projects we did at home and in 4-H (my late mother was a leader for 35 years). The cost is less than paper cup liners. 🍀👍🙏👑✝
I love this tissue paper thing & will be trying it But I feel so dumb because I can't for the life of me figure out how this correlates with the cupcake liners to a candle holder???????
@@sweetb2006 Hi Jami, it's quite straightforward. Cut the tissue paper into small squares depending on the size of your project. For a smaller item, cut it into two-inch squares. If using a styro-foam base, take a semi-sharpened pencil (sharpened but with a blunt point), wrap tissue around the tip (put the tip in the center of the tissue square). place the tip in some white glue and pierce the foam with the tissue wrapped, glue dipped pencil point. Don't soak it in the glue, just dip it and stick into the foam. If you want to cover a hard surface, like poster board, etc., use the eraser end of the pencil and follow the same procedure. Place the eraser in the center of the tissue square and wrap the eraser with it, touch it to the glue then adhere it to the flat surface. Repeat until your surface is covered to your satisfaction. My late sister made Christmas trees this way by cutting cotton fabric into squares and gluing it into styro-foam cones. When dry she embellished with glitter, ball ornaments and garlands and stars. Quite exquisite. It's possible to make these with larger squares of tissue, but you will need to find a means to reinforce the length of tissue to stand erect as it will drape if not supported (by larger, I mean full or nearly full sized sheets of tissue). Don't hesitate to ask a question if I've left something unclear. Have fun. Over the years I've made Kissing Balls with paper, Baby Shower decor, indoor signs, etc.. And yes, if you cover a vase with the tissue fluffs and put a fake candle inside, it can make a pretty candleholder too. Again, have fun with it! Take care and God Bless 💖🙏👑✝
Wow, I just made this exact thing but instead of using cupcake liners, I took a roll of coloured crepe paper and cut squares out of it (about as long as it is wide) To make it easy to do this I just pulled it off of the roll and wrapped it over a strip of cardboard about an inch wide. This is the same procedure as making a Pom Pom. Cut it at both sides and you end up with a pile of squares. Then I followed exactly what you are doing to attach it to a ball. This way you can make these gorgeous creations in any colour you want without having to spray paint! Happy crafting, 🇨🇦
So stylish! I think maybe putting some sort of gold thread or something around to hide where they are stacked together would be good, or even painting some more plaster in there to hide the cracks, so it looks like one continuous molded piece.
For the votive holders, instead of putting the tealight directly into the plaster, I would use smaller silicone liners or something along those lines. Push the liners in just like the tealights and weigh them down with rocks or something inside. Can also buy mold release and put around the tealight. Vaseline or baby oil might work 🤔?
Just buy the battery powered ones, I would and you could also make your hole deeper and narrower so you could fit a taller narrow pillar candle or a taper candle that is battery or solar powered as well.
The pom pom balls would be beautiful for a wedding. Dust the white ball with powder blush, add color co-ordinating curled ribbon & a large silk flower/multiple flowers ect to the top.
They are very cute! Can't you turn the cupcake liners inside out? I realize you may still see some of the white but it may also add to the color or picture on the liners
I may have missed something but how are you going to change the tea light if it’s cemented into the cupcake?? Like I said I may have missed that part....
Same thing I'm wondering I'm like she just did all of this work for 2 hours of flame that she'll get from the tea light that she cemented in the candle holder ... I'm confused 😕.
Tons of Ideas. Coastal decor, paint or use nail polish to faux marbelize in ombre' layers. Make a little juste fishnet to fit over around it. glue little seashells onto the net, pour clear Elmer's glue into the empty spot where the votive was add a drop of blue to make it look like water. Then, glue in a piece of driftwood, or a sea bird or a larger seashell or a sand dollar turned up on its edge. and drape a bit of seaweed, or twist some cotton twine to make little rope, and hang a tiny life ring, a seahorse, etc. from the little rope. ( You could glue to seabird up on top of the piece of driftwood ) You could make a little lifeboat ring with some scraps of carboard, a toilet paper of power towel tube slice, etc. you could have tons of fun with this. You could also make beezewax candle rolls, put a batter powered votive or pillar light inside to glow out from the beezewax and wrap jute or cording around the places where the cups are glued together. You could change the colors out for the seasons as well. Craft foil from the dollar store could also be used to cover the plaster of paris cup shapes for the seasonal changes as you can mould it over the ripples as well. Patriotic treatment, use crochet thread, string, cording, or yarn to wrap around the segments. ( silver and gold Christmas left over wrapping or craft cording could work.) You could actually use red, white, and blue paint, in three cups so you can dip the colors to make the segments look like they have frosting on them. I have done this with ceramic bowls that I have made and fired. You could even make a new set of the segments just to use for patriotic purposes, where you could switch the decorations around, or don't worry about it paint over them and make something new each time. I just found out that Mod Podge made a new formula, MOD PODGE that is DISHWASHER SAFE~ Eeekkk I gotto go find this stuff. Check back with me if you need any more ideas I pretty much cannot stop having them explode in my mind, lol
Everyone is worried about the tealight running out but nobody cares about how lopsided the whole thing is. I swear this channel gives 5 minute crafts a run for its stupidity.
I think I would put alot of Vaseline around the metal tea light, then hopefully, they would slide out easily, then you could put a new tea light in it.
You could dye the cupcake holders prior to making the project. You could even do an ombre effect. Might be pretty! I would probably use watered down acrylic paint or food coloring.
What if you flip the cupcake liner over and then glue? Would that work? I didn’t know if it’s showing the color on the inside or white is the prominent color?
I believe the cupcake liners are used just to get the cupcake shape. Plaster of Paris dries white, therefore you can decorate the molds as you wish. It would be more expensive to glue the molds together because silicone is not cheap anymore, and they are reusable.
Those aren’t cupcake lines…They are candy cups…I have them and they are not white inside, they are solid red, green, brown etc…I’d make the candle holder so they can be changed out..I am sure you can,but it’s going to chip some of the POP when doing so….
So cool 😎 candel holders I would have painted them the hood was not my style .. For it to be beneficial to buy the plaster with the molds the candles you would have to make quite a few to make it worth it
I would put a lubricant inside and just use battery powered votives or narrow pillar or taper candles but that is me. We are not allowed to burn candles inside where I live. They usually have batter powered lights at Christmas time etc. You can even pick them up at garage sales, after someone has had a wedding, thrift stores, or even find them in your Christmas stuff.
?????colored cupcake papers in US are the same color both sides. More expensive liners can have a white inside but some of them are removable. Id like to see a color one with white insides.
Ok what happens when the light finishes??? Those tealights don't last forever. So you just did all of this for about 2 hours of flame from the tea light ?
A so what you can't use them anymore when the little tea lights done I think there should be a different way with the tea light she should take it out before it sets all the way so she can always replace it
Yes you can, just make sure you have a tiny bit of room in the hole, and put it out with some needlenose pliers. I would use batter operated light if it was me. They come in all sizes at the dollar store. etc.
I love I love the red white and blue balls, really sharp !!! Oh wow I just seen now where you put the stars on the Topps all of that looks so cool how much did it cost each, if I don't mind me asking
How do you think the commercially sold ones are made? They use the same basic materials as these homemade ones do. Also, maybe crafting is relaxing and enjoyable for some people, so for them it would not be a waste of time.
Case you didn't know, you made a comment in a RU-vid comment section. That means folks will reply to it. Kind of like an open forum. If you did not wish that, then ya probably shouldn't have commented at all. As for it being a waste, how so? One uses materials and ends up with a product they made with the materials. How is that a waste? It isn't. So how about you don't babble to begin with, if you don't want anyone babbling back.
Re the questions about candles - just remove the burnt wick that's left and insert another tealight candle. The new candles are very easily removed from the aluminum holder and will slide into the one cemented into the plaster of paris
