"People Are Funny" was a television game show that originally ran from 1954 to 1961. Art Linkletter was the original host of the show. The format of the show involved various comedic stunts, audience participation, and hidden-camera pranks to entertain the viewers. Contestants were put in humorous and sometimes awkward situations, while the show highlighted the unpredictability of the contestants. In this episode Sharon, Art Linkletter's daughter, asks people on the street to help with a big bag of groceries...if someone helps the prize is a car, a Nash Rambler Metropolitan. A housewife shows her sewing talents, on the posterior of a bachelor from the audience. Ever hear of the cartoon character Caspar Milquetoast by H.T. Webster? Through an add in the paper they look for someone timid just like the comic strip. A woman in the audience is asked to judge the character of a man in the audience by answering questions about him. She is really quite good! All these skits show People are Funny! Some of the contestants (spelling could be off) are Mrs. Luella Williams from South Wilmington, Illinois, Joseph Anski, Mr Ernest Rey, Mrs. Tom Black from Quincy Illinois, and Mr. Clifford Jakeway from Glendale. The commercials are interesting as Papermate Pens was matching the color of new cars, two tone too. A lineup of 1955 Chrysler automobiles are shown with matching pens, plus a Pampers shampoo commercial. Transferred from 16mm b-w film.
