You absolutely could run a train set or RC cars through those tiny doors, although it would become a problem if you were also opening the full-size door they're attached to. The door would need to be higher up to open with train tracks on the floor, and you'd either need cameras built-in to the cars, or to follow them into the room.

1:40 is not Bromine. Bromine is way too toxic for nearly any school to keep it in the labs (at least in my country). It is probably NO2/N2O4. When NO2 undergoes temperature changes it reacts with itself to form N2O2, this demonstrates the principle of equilibrium which is taught in most chemistry classes. You can see the gas inside change from brown (N2O4) to colourless (NO2) as the temperature changes, temperature effects the internal pressure which changes the dominant reaction.

The tiny doors are most likely superstitious in origin, likely for any of the suggestions the comments have already made ("teeth mice", fae, brownies, ect). They would definitely work as a cat door though! You'd be surprised how small a gap cats can fit through. It's not entirely correct to say if their head can fit, then the rest of their body can fit, cause it's technically their whiskers. That's what whiskers are for; measuring spaces so the cat knows if they can fit or not. As long as they're a healthy weight anyways, it's why fat cats tend to get stuck places that big cat breeds wouldn't even attempt to enter. Looking at my cat door, a space about 5 inches tall/wide is plenty of space, even for bigger cats (my cat Oscar, who weighs maybe 15-20 pounds can use the cat door perfectly fine, he even runs through it sometimes.)

We had some bromine at my school. It is used in some reactions. They used it to show a light-induced radical substitution between bromine and hydrocarbons for example. You can also just store it in a glass bottle, but it might leak some vapor, so you'd wanna keep it in a fume hood. So if it is regularly used, it is usually kept in a bottle. In an ampule you can keep it indefinitely.

those eggs are vital for backyard chickens. it keeps the chickens from getting in the habit of eating their own eggs. it only takes one egg accidentally breaking once in a nesting area and the chicken eating it for it to be like 'oh yes! this is great!' then it learns that it can eat what comes out of it. keeping one of those fake eggs in their nesting areas helps because when they go to peck at the eggs, they'll peck the fake one and go 'ow, f@&#!' and it breaks their habit (they're usually ceramic, so super hard material).

@vyperpunk4881
@vyperpunk4881 3 месяца назад
It could have also been used for nesting shore or sea birds. Biologists do the surrogate swap with endangered and threatened species as it increases hatch rates. They incubate the eggs until hatch and then return them to the nest. The parents are given surrogate eggs so they don't abandon their nest. The egg could have been stolen by a predator, then dropped in the water when it was discovered to be non edible.

I don't think the brown gas was bromine. Bromine is usually stored as a liquid. I think it's dinitrogen tetroxide which can be used to demonstrate the effects of heat and pressure on the chemical equalibrium of a reaction. In this case there are two states it can be in. Dinitrogen tetroxide (dark brown, similar colour to bromine) and nitrogen dioxide (yellowish colour). So yeah. Not nearly as bad as bromine but still horrible. The tiny doors could also be due to superstition Specifically, the Brownie (or Broonie) which is a type of household spirit that enters at night and does housework in exchange for a bowl of milk or cream. And they will abandon places if they feel at all insulted or taken advantage of, so some houses implemented tiny doors to let them come and go easier to keep them happier Specifically the one leading from outside to the kitchen is what makes me think this. Since they would primarily be thought to do kitchen work. The basement could be to get to storage, for things like kitchen supplies and such (also, the baked item "Brownies" is likely named after the fairies, since they'd often leave "baked chocolate squares" for the homeowners)

This just seemed too plausible to be true... and according to Wikipedia you are right. In the olden days, some households would even leave a miniature chair empty near the fireplace for the creature to sit on at night.

The metal shards are drips of excess solder that leaked to the inside of the pipe, most likely on a vertical section. That's why you always run the water for a while, without the shower head, after sweating a pipe.

In some places (such as the US), it's illegal to buy and sell ambergris. And since whales are endangered species, it can only be collected naturally from the ocean. It also needs to age for about a decade after excretion, as it initially smells bad. All those things combine to make supply highly limited, and since perfume is so expensive, makes it a highly profitable material.

10:42 Ambergris is technically not whale shit. It comes from a secretion in a whale's bile duct. It can come out either end, but it's not exactly vomit or shit. It's It's own unique thing. As for what it's used for, usually perfumes and incense. It's also used as an herbal remedy in some countries, and used to be used in food and drinks a long time ago.

They are clearly meant to look like candy, but having what's obviously no longer the original packaging, it is obvious it has been tampered with and left for naive kids to put in their mouth assuming it is candy. What it is in actuality depends though. It could be spices or yucky stuff to make kids stop eating their candy they tend to leave out. Or it could be highly addictive drugs because someone wants the world to burn. Or it could be household poisons because they are annoyed at the kids. And so on.

@@m_lynx9976 no that is clearly homemade by someone, and not made in a factory or even handmade in a confectionary shop. You can tell from the rubber-bands etc. Meaning you could easily make something identical yourself, with as much rat-poison as you desire!

Tiny doors were for heating-oil deliveries! Long snurggly hose from pumper-truck to basement: tiny doors let it through without having to keep the big doors open.

@MrGrumblier

I doubt that. Seems to me that it would be difficult to get the nozzle through and the door would need to be open for the delivery guy to go in and out. Most homes would have had a pipe from outside directly to the room with the oil tank that connected to the tank.
@sambrown6426
@sambrown6426 4 дня назад
As someone who lives in a house that has oil heat, I can say that you're wrong, there's a pipe going from the tank in the basement up to the outside that the oil truck connects a hose to. They never need to bring the hose inside at all
