Fun fact: The reason why Gojira was supposed to be an allegory for nuclear weapons was because the director of the film stated that if Gojira was a regular monster it would’ve been taken out by the military easily. Gojira was meant to represent the indestructible power of a nuclear weapon and that almost nothing can stop it.

@ravenquinn7774 4 месяца назад
@@Tommy-tz7hm no, the scientists working on the project warned the military to expand the zone, due to the lithium 7 isotope. The military had their own "experts" conclude the yield would only be 5-6 megatons and ignored it. even then, it was still higher than what the scientists predicted, mostly because lithium 7 when hit with enough energy doesnt decay into lithium 8, but instead undergoes fission and releases both alpha and gamma particles, a tritium nucleus, and high energy neutrons, causing the matric of fusion in the bomb to go out of control. not to mention they were also warned of the dangerous windflow that day for fallout and proceeded anyways. it was just all in all a really really bad situation caused by rushing and fear.

Another thing that led to it was Indonesia refusing filmmaker visas for the planned 1954 movie(In the Shadow of Glory), Tanaka read about the lucky dragon incident after returning from Indonesia in an attempt to try and get In the Shadow of Glory greenlit He would then pitch the movie which would become Gojira, and filming was tight, and when it premiered that November(not October) it caused people to run out of the theatre that was being attacked on-screen, thinking it *was* being attacked

@@badluck5647 Nope! The Godzilla 1954 film doesn’t let the Japanese be victims in that simple form. The bombs made the leadership realize they werent safe anywhere and that the us wouldve just destroyed the country before doing a land invasion making their tactic of stacking ad many bodies as they could useless. There were 2 movie made in Japan in the early 1950's about the affects of the nuclear bombs on Japan. One, 'Children of Hiroshima' (1952) depicts a teacher returning to the city 4 years later. The other is 'Hiroshima' (1953). It was produced by the teacher's union and set in the day and immediate aftermath of the bombing in the city. I recall seeing both of these films on TCM several years ago. The creation of the Godzilla films were likely inspired by these films.
