People Hiding Under Bridges during Ennis, TX Hailstorm (3/14/2022) {J/A}

I've always wanted to ride with a storm chaser! Bucket list!

I've never been in a hailstorm in real life, but if I'd been driving at 0:35, I'd have been under that Exxon station's roof (on the right) in a flash. The hail in this case never got dangerously big, but there's no way of knowing it would remain that way while the storm is in progress.

Many years ago I parked on the shoulder of an underpass when it started hailing. I was not blocking traffic. There was not a tornado warning or watch in effect. I soon noticed others were stopping in the lanes under the underpass. I could see traffic backed up on the freeway behind me. At the time I drove a brand new Corvette and I was like I'll be damned if I don't try to do something to prevent hail damage to my new car. My insurance deductible was $1,000.00.

I got caught in a heavy hailstorm while driving across Eastern Colorado last year. It was not a fun experience! That’s especially true out on the High Plains where there is very little cover to park your car under like an overpass, an awning, or a tree. Fortunately the hailstorm I was caught in never became large enough to cause damage, but it came down very heavy for a long time.

Under an underpass is the WORST spot to hide-

You know it's a bad year in the USA when the more shocking thing in this video is the gas price.

You should never hide under bridges because if that tornado passes through the bridge parts would fall on top of that person and lead to death or major head injury

.That's that place to take cover from hail, but not from tornadoes. Glad no tornadoes in this case. But you can still get stuck in flooding and block traffic. You don't want it to damage your car though.

Let's be honest that's some hell of hail but not gorilla hail lol.... If this is gorrilla hail than in the 2011 super outbreak here in east TN we got king Kong hail. Smaller side golf ball bigger side tennis balls. Had to buy a new roof after that crazy super outbreak.

Call the insurance company

Hiding under a highway bridge on the right of way is the same as playing Russian Roulette. You don't know if that 18 wheeler out there proceeding down the highway can see you in time to stop. Or for that matter John and Martha in the minivan with their children. DON'T DO IT. Insurance will pay for the dents, but it won't bring anybody back to life. I drove long haul for 30 years and this scared me worse than black ice. And if it IS a tornado, hiding under that bridge at all could end your life. Be safe and slow down and run your headlights. Wipers on....headlights on. It should be automatic. On my Volvo truck, it was.

I would be parked under the overpass, not because I was afraid for my life but because I didn't want my truck to get hail damage.

If I were to sell a tornado, how much would it go for?

I’d rather get stuck than to have hail that is spoken of in The Bible, fall down on me. I realize that this hail wasn’t like the one described In Scripture, but we never know when that will happen, so it’s better to be safe than sorry.

At least drive under some trees and save your vehicle😵
