I was there probably 35 years ago , came in from Windsor tunnel and I saw Cheap Trick play 🎉

I loved that people mover tour. The artwork you showed at the end was really cool. Detroit is becoming a more vibrant city with each passing day.

I actually met the artist for that station once randomly on the staircase. Some of the green tiles were donated by Peter Stroh because they had been planned for an brewery extension that was never built. And there's a sculpture mounted into the wall on the landing between staircases that actually dates back to 1901, which was provided by the Detroit Institute of Arts.

Downtown has come a long way since the people mover opened in 1987. The city center was probably at its lowest point with the most abandoned buildings of any downtown area. Amazingly, many have been brought back to life as if they had never been shuttered.

I think the earmark actually originated from when Jerry Ford was president. And Reagan didn't yank the funding right away, the city and suburbs couldn't come to an agreement of how to spend it and that's why it got yanked 2 presidents later.
