People need time and space 

It's better to go with "acquaintance" or "buddy", my language has a nice expression for this in-peers-but-wouldn't-trust-with-money

How does one build back up from zero friends after losing them all to time, jobs, and tragic life events? Come to think of it, how can you ever really tell if your friends with someone or not?

​@@richardpaulson6002 Also last thing : just because you're not sure if you're friends or not that doesnt mean you should put a fuckton of barriers around you. You only want to close the caring about them part. Dont be cold to them, but dont go out of your way and think about their problems all night, there is no way it will end well for you (unless you want to be a martyr).

@@richardpaulson6002 Start with making acquaintances. Like you can still meet up with people regularly even if you don't quite consider them friends.

I love hearing about folk’s problems personally, but, that’s just an odd quirk of our family really, total strangers and close family alike just spilling their guts in a way you’d typically only see with the best of friends. There’s a lotta folks out there who really need that and have nowhere to turn for a variety of reasons, and, somehow, our family ends up being on the receiving end. I’ve have personally been given suicidal admissions, hopes and dreams statements, relationship advice seeking (I had no answers, yet, somehow, they said they felt better), worries about the future, the works. . . but it’s true, there has never been a two-way straight. Perhaps I’ve never actually had friends at all, only folks looking for a stress ball to squeeze for free, rather then pay for a shrink. . . Oh, circumstances don’t actually let me go anywhere beyond work to actually “see” anyone. The car situation won’t allow it, and the geographic location means that there’s nowhere to go for miles around. I’m marooned, effectively, had been for years before school started, then I experienced decades of wonder from pre-school to college, the joy of interacting with other human beings regularly, for good and ill. Just being acknowledged as existing was enough! And then. . . it all ended. Now, for the past four years, I’m back to wear I was in my youth, everyone gone through the passage of time, the scattering across the country, and then the Dread 19. All I have now to feel what it’s like to be human is my writing, and the Internet, the only place where I can transcend the limitations of the physical to meet and speak with others. . . albeit with the caveat of wondering if your really actually meeting anyone other then a persona put on by folks visiting the Internet. (Agh, shet, sorry ladies and gents, blasted pressure valve blew again, thought I had that closed off months ago, sorry for the spew-wall.)

Her immediately picking up on the "let them miss you!" Line when she read it in chat is probably the most telling for what she was trying to get across. The "a lot" to me is either her alluding to the fact she's spent a great deal of her life putting her art and work before other things, or it was simply a bit of an exaggerated expression.

Do you at least have family? You had to have come from somewhere! (Sincerely, with no malice meant). If not, and your a completely self-made person, the best I can say is that your actions reflecting upon the world and the people in it can make people care. I mean that not in the sense of doing something insane, but, in the sense of doing something that involves you in the world at large, be it a job, a hobby, things of that nature. Doing things in that space causes “ripples” in the water of the world at large, one’s that will inevitably touch others. If they are good ripples and you do not do something or things to scare them off, folks can and will begin to care.

The only thing I’ll disagree with that about is time. There’s never enough for anything, be it free or just time spent living.

really now? I feel like it's less "hard to get along with" and more "hard to get close to". I have several close friends who are very much like this towards unfamiliar ppl, but becomes very relaxed and committed around me and other friends within our circles. Personally, it feels like she's the kind of person that will give back as much as she receives, and that hinges on the fact that she's on the receiving end first.

Odd, I think what she said here make it sound easier to befriend her. Can't really note anything about her previous comments as I haven't interpreted them like that.
