Congrats on you 600th video 🎉 quite the accomplishment 👏 This video was very entertaining and informative, happy to hear you elaborate and respond in more detail to the comments. I think CGC is in the hot seat for a while, but u definitely want to turn your 9.5's to a 10 because its more appealing. New collectors in the future won't have the same bias knowing the 9.5's were all given the 10. As long as CGC remains in the top 4 grading companies, the slabs will be fine. Curious to see how Rudy's investment into that grading company will do.

It's gonna be crazy once people realize that grading companies aren't the only people that can understand the condition of a card. People in coins and other collectibles understand how to grade their stuff without needing a 3rd party for it. So once people figure out that a PSA 10 that looks like a 9 is worth what a 9 is, and that a CGC 10 in same condition as a PSA 10 is worth the same then those prices are gonna be wild. Either there's gonna be huge shifts down in PSA 10s or a big shift up in CGC 10s prices People just really have no idea of condition/grading without the card in a slab to tell them the grade and they just trust it blindly. And that trust is less for CGC and more for PSA.
@dagreenshiz
@dagreenshiz 10 месяцев назад
Have coins always been that way or just developed over time?
@TheFriskySquid
@TheFriskySquid 10 месяцев назад
Coins and sports cards have been around since before grading even existed. For coins the first scale was invented by 1 guy for 1 specific coin (US large cents) in 1949, and an adapted version of that was implemented in 1977. 1984 was the first slabbed coin grading. Looks like PSA started slabbing cards in 1991. So basically developed over time but with big jumps in measures to assess condition. There's lots of coin books though that help teach grading and to spot fakes etc. Not so much with cards unfortunately (especially Pokemon)@@dagreenshiz

@vendora1 10 месяцев назад
coin collectors got tired of paying overpriced slabs for coins so the coin collectors over time phased them out idk if the same will happen in cards i think tech like TAG is doing will eventually be the universal standard by which people can get a template and then grade the card on their own @@dagreenshiz

Congrats Greeny on 600 videos 🎉 I think over time the CGC haters will die down. 2 things CGC has going for them is the clarity of their slab and they grade the niche non-TCG collectibles. Despite all the noise this is one reason I still will consider to grade with them in the future for some PC items.

Shocked it got through but grading companies are deceived more than they should be. A year ago we had a big problem with PSA & BGS encapsulating the fake 1st ed stamp cards. The people who deceive the companies ultimately are the problem.

SGC , AGS , I love buying 10's from these lower companies and crossing them, usually for the PC unless it hits a lower grade than expected... Imagine the chaos if PSA started grading 10's with print lines, since that seems to be the biggest dig at CGC in general...might be a good move for them if their volume were ever to die down. "PSA 10's can now have a printline..." lol their backlog would spike to millions again because of people chasing that premium sale. I can appreciate CGC putting out a better product regardless of the end value. Yes, it's nice to have 'increased' the value of your collection because it's slabbed up...but in my opinion...it's better to be able to enjoy my collection in a better quality product than what PSA offers. Long term I think the market accepts CGC more regardless if it's a 'lower value standard' they have a place in the market. For example: You can grade X card at PSA or CGC, your expectation is it gets a 9. PSA sells for 100, and CGC sells for 75. CGC costs 12 and you get the card back in 1 month. PSA costs 15 and you get the card back in 4 months. Is 25 dollars worth 3 months of held up liquidity? I'd venture to say no.

@@dagreenshiz I agree, regardless of the grading standards a portion of the reason people get cards slabbed is for looks and protection of your 'asset' a.k.a. the card not the label above it.

I'm just not a fan of the way PSA handles things. They have damaged thousands of cards the past year and approached it in the most corporate way possible. Fully acknowledge their labels/ratings carry more market value, but I appreciate how user friendly CGC submission process is, that I could get an annual membership and 10% of grading fees effectively free, and the Pristine 10 label looks great. As far as trading and buying I'll probably roll with PSA/BGS, but my submissions will be trusted with CGC for at least the foreseeable future. I'm doing a mix of sentimental cards and rare/low pop cards so not crazy concerned about the market value with what I submit at the moment, and CGC slabs just feel better quality I feel like I could snap a PSA slab in half with ease.

P$A is the company of resellers. CGC became the company of collectors and buyers. People's initial disgust with CGC started when they couldn't make money and it continued to be that way. So they hung their heads and left. The whole reason this happened was because those people continued to segment the market. CGC saw itself not being viable in the market and pivoted, hence new changes. Actually kind of a power play. P$A pushers would be sad to learn that their slabs are worth half their value since the exact same card sold recently in a CGC holder. They would very much like to discredit CGC and have it fall off the face of the earth 😂, it actively hurts them.
@dagreenshiz

A print line should definitely detract as it takes away from the appeal of the card. Have no clue why you would think that those should still get 10's. I mean might as well not even look at the back then as the appeal of a card is really the front and back whitening or centering takes way less from the appeal of the card then print lines of the holo on the card that you spend 99% of your time looking at the front. If you display a card you display the front not the back. So your argument is buy the card and not the label yet somehow are ok with print lines being 10's (because what it's CGC), those two things just don't make sense.
@dagreenshiz
@dagreenshiz 10 месяцев назад
Yeah can usually only see print lines super up close when your looking for them. A print line is less of an issue for me than allowing 60/40 to be a 10.
@tallcatshortdog
@tallcatshortdog 10 месяцев назад
@@dagreenshiz I agree with centering on the front but I specifically talked about the back of the card since no one displays the back of the card. Print lines on the holo take a lot more away from the appeal of the card then basically anything on the back. So no clue why you'd say buy the card not the label but then say buying a card with print lines is buying the card.
@dagreenshiz
@dagreenshiz 10 месяцев назад
@@tallcatshortdog I personally do not care about print lines on my cards just preference. I am one that just one that likes good centering and no damage. Just like how a lot of Pokemon collectors would prefer an "OC designated 9" instead of a standard 9 becasue its an "error" but in sprots card a "9 OC" is the devil and sells at PSA 7-8 prices. All preference.
@tallcatshortdog
@tallcatshortdog 10 месяцев назад
@dagreenshiz preference is fine but to say a grading company should give 10's to print line cards is pretty insane. Not sure how you can say buy the card not the label and justify print lines on holos as 10's. I mean I get you want to defend cgc for some reason but those two things just don't go together. It's just another reason cgc doesn't have credibility in the market.
