Paddywiggle outside of Japan isn't just US I am referring to, there are plenty of countries that have a messed up car taxation system, most people end up buying terrible tiny hatchbacks or something similar that are probably not even sold in many regions, these kei cars compared to them would be a very tempting option for countries that are forced to buy low cc vehicles.
there's smart cars all over the frickin place and they're ugly AF at least these autozams are cool looking. its a tiny sports car instead of a potato wedge
I'd love one... Kei cars are so small it's like, why wouldn't you have one? it'll have unbeatable fuel economy, it doesn't have to be a super car and people will turn their head to look at it and you'll never have to worry about parking it because it's tiny. I can't see a reason not to want one 😂 Hell if they were being mass produced they would probably be extremely cheap to buy and run as well!

tom is a true car lover, enthusiast.. luv seeing other people see and enjoy cars they have never seen before....that's is what makes cars special......just like bringing some american cars over sea too you will get the same reactions...

You should have parked next to the Rolls, or in the back of it... This is one of the coolest cars I know, but getting one registered in Norway isn't the easiest thing.

I guess we mostly have euro-boxes over here, mixed with rain, rust, bad conversion rate and everything costing at LEAST 20% more than you guys, oh and gas costs 2/3rds more, but hey. Dušan Pešić when the AZ-1 came out, Ford did own quite a bit of Mazda at the time, and influenced some of its design, though it did take from the European Ford RS200.
Same designer worked on both those cars and about a hundred more. Some of them are super cars. He is retired now so it is a good time to buy a high end car as the market is going to shrink.
my main concern with something so small is that trucks/SUVs could quite literally drive over you without much fuss, a bit like how prime movers can collect a car without even knowing they just took someone out.
Steven W last night I saw an Impala that was smashed into a concrete barrier by a tour bus that apparently didn't see him. Likely fatal in this AZ1, I'm sure Tom doesnt drive it all the time, though.
I found this unexpectedly entertaining! I started on the AZ-1 road after watching the Jay Leno's Garage video then watched the two parts of Tom's project and this one. Great stuff, watching everybody react to the car is priceless.
Great film as always, loved the BIG man TINY car challenge and the parked voyager comments . You have a perfect surprise uninformed base in Tenn., here in the NW KEI cars are more common some daily driven here in Portland Or.
I grew up in Portland and lived here all my life, never seen one. I have seen a few kei cars around though. And when I worked at Gunderson, Inc we had Daihatsu Hijets to run around the plant in. Pretty fun once you disable the governor lol.

In Malaysia, we build our 660cc turbocharged car into a 10 second drag car. This 660cc stock internal motor easily achieve 100++hp with a bigger turbo, injector, exhaust and tune.
Tom's Turbo Garage here in Malaysia, we are not very familiar with Mazda F6a engine as those model are quite rare here. However we have abundance of 660cc 3&4 cylinders turbocharged engine from Daihatsu. Their 3cyl engine configuration is quite similar to Mazda/Suzuki's. For Daihatsu 660's, there is 5 simple yet cheap mods to achieve sub 100whp mark. Catless downpipe + enlarge exhaust system to 2inch pipes, subaru rhf4 or mitsubishi td04 turbine, mitsubishi 390cc injectors from 4G93T, & piggyback or standalone management. This kind of mods will cost us around USD750 to USD1500 including labor cost. We don't have proper house garage to work on our own car here. For engine management, there is number of choices depending on budget, such as simple as Apexi safc/afc neo, greddy e-manage to higher cost Haltech or Ecu=Shop standalone.
Skräcken it is td04-09 for mitsubishi 4d56 turbo diesel. If ihi rhf4 turbo, most of us will mods to use back the rhf3 turbine's (stock turbo) exhaust side. Nowadays, malaysianand thailand k-car scene is crazier compared to japan. 😂
Cool didn't know the TD04 came that small! But they seem to be good turbos. Got a 15T pushing out just over 300hp in my car. The cool thing about k-cars is you don't have to spend crazy money to make them fast.
Loved seeing all the fancy cars there but having watched all the previous videos where you poured a ton of detailing and restoration work on this car, it was good to see it properly shown off. :)
I feel in love with the AZ-1 as a kid playing Gran Turismo 2 at the end of the 90s, it was simultaneously both wild looking enough to sate my childish appetite, and also the antithesis to everything a young boy desires, and it has always intrigued me.
My clutch decided to come apart the week before C&C and I couldn't get a replacement Clutchmasters in time. By 9pm on Saturday night, I was pissed enough (at the whole situation), I decided to bag trying to make it on Sunday... The GTZ should be there in October. You going to that one?
I have to ask Tom, and forgive my ignorance otherwise, have you ever been on a motorcycle? Because i feel like, driving this would be slightly less scary than it is riding on a bike in the same "mastodons" passing by conditions. :) Love this little gem, and the people made me chuckle.
Glad you enjoyed the video man! Yes, I've owned a couple motorcycles way back in the day and there's something that's unnerving about being in a glass bubble so close to the ground in the sitting position. Hard to explain really.

Are those rear facing seats in the BRAT even legal to use these days? I remember the days I and my brothers would ride in the back of our truck sitting or standing. That first guy is my height (6'5"). And that answers my question, thanks! :)
WillieRants I've heard that insurance companies make you sign a waiver that you will not allow anyone to ride in the back as a condition of coverage for the BRAT...
@@brentboswell1294 Most don't even know what the hell it is. Heck insurance companies will insure old 60's and 50's vehicles without a problem. Those cars don't even have seat belts or anything! So I doubt a backward facing seat is going to get any real attention and thats if the even know it has them.
Honestly really interested to see where you go with this no matter the route, from the mighty Thunderbolt to the humble Figgy you've kept me watching for ages now, just keep having fun 😀
