Door chains are not meant to truly secure the door. Just to hold briefly. The proper way to secure the door is with the deadbolt, which is way faster than fumbling with the normal chain anyway. The Lock Picking Lawyer has all the coverage on all the locks :P

I worked at an assisted living home. And they had a dementia ward. It stayed locked to ensure the residents couldn’t wander off. But it had the code on the door for visitors and staff to be able to access the ward.
