@@F1rstWorldNomaD no it’s not. You’d be surprised at the ridiculous arguments I’ve heard from sub watchers about “the emotions”. Someone tried to tell me that kid Sasuke’s dub voice did not fit because it was too deep (even though the sub voice is even *deeper* than the dub!). It’s pure bullshit.

I really like the characters, especially Erza and Lucy they are my favs, the fight scenes and magic are cool and the story really isn't bad at all in my opinion, I think it's pretty good actually. Plus it was the first anime that I ever watched, the anime that got me into anime, so having probably the biggest plot twist in the series ruined for me was pretty unsatisfying to say the absolute least
there's been this debate whether people should watch it in the original Japanese with subtitles or the English dub or another language dub or the debate about which one is better. At the end of the day, the story of the show, the emotional impact, the attachment, the action scenes, the special effects, the way the characters interact with each other remains the same. American shows and movies are dubbed in many languages and nobody in those countries is even having this debate. Watch it however you want to watch it.
After a while of watching sub you get some sort of special skill that allows you to read six different lines of dialogue that only appear in the same second and are actually unrelated to each other, all while watching a dope action scene.

My only thing with Japanese is sometimes the characters sound so similar I can't tell who is talking if they are off screen. My English language understanding ears only are picking up high or low pitches with female/ male variations. But they seriously sound so much alike. When it is dubbed for me, I always get more connected on a personal level with the character when they speak and know exactly who they are at all times.
Very well put. I agree completely. That's the reason why it took me a while to get into season 4 of Attack on Titan. I watched the first seasons in dub and got use to all the voices. Then season 4 comes out in sub only and all the voices are different and all the characters aged 4 years so they all look different so it was really hard to tell who was talking. But I do watch both.
Imagine trashing someone for watching anime in the language you all speak, thinking it hurts the experience just because you wanna read the subtitles the entire time and miss the epic or funny shit that's going on 😂

Or maybe anime companies USUALLY spend next to nothing on English voice actors so they are usually trash. Black Lagoon, Ghost in the Shell, and Cowboy Bebop were some amazing quality dubs so it can absolutely be done, I just personally don't prefer ir.

@@Fanimei It really depends on the brand. Unlike iphone where it's just one brand, android is a collection of many different brands. You can get an android with an amazing camera quality at the same price as iphones, not to mention they will have way more customizability overall. If you get a cheap android from a brand that no one knows, obviously you wouldn't know what to expect.

I just feel like animated or not when there's subtitles on the screen I end up watching them more than what's actually happening on screen. I want to immerse myself and take the fiction in as a whole, not have a chore to understand what's happening when I'm supposed to be relaxing.
I dont care about the dubs emotions or other factors because its good enough to satisfy me, i would also like to hear it in my *primary language* because its easier for me to comprehend, i will still watch sub if the anime doesnt have a dub because if i like the anime from a clip then im gonna watch it, but dub is my way i watch it

Dubbed ruins most peoples appreciation for anime because of how low budget dubbed is normally in anime. Also because the anime watching community mostly uses pirated sites they cant make an enormous amount of money so they dont have as large of an incentive. Dubbed is bad because of how much effort and money they put into it.

But since we're talking about quality, who in the right minds cares about voice quality in an anime when it's just made to be more convenient for the viewers.
Its hilarious because its all so subjective and can vary depending on the actual anime. Ghibli being one example of dubs that are generally loved and created with passionate performances. Live action is where I have to side with the sub crowd. I want to hear the voice match the physical performance.

Dub is only good to me if I start an anime with Dubbed turned on. If I watch it in japanese, I can't transition over to dub. Like Naruto, I watched dubbed at first, but now I watch it subbed, but if dubbed was on, it wouldnt bother me. And Narutos dub voices are pretty good, which helps.
Hey Hey, most dub viewers don't even clown on sub because they minding their own business with their preference. But most sub watchers like to clown on dub, they see a few anime with meh dub and assume all dub in all anime is trash.

I grew up on the anime 4kids dubbed as a kid and it was so ridiculously censored that stories stopped making sense which is why I moved to subbed anime once I could read english fast enough to follow the dialogue and the animation (english is third language for me) and rewatching those same shows subbed was almost like watching completely different shows (in a good way). The only thing I miss in subbed is understanding subtext, as some things just don’t translate - but I’ll happily trade that for the japanese VA as I just think they have a better grasp on their own artform and can better emphasize the characters. Immersion is a big thing for me and having a character sound like a cat screaming just takes me out of it. Avatar was the first animated show that I genuinely liked english VA in because the actors were using their own voices. They clearly have a much better range using their normal voice than an emulated one, and this is actually pretty uncommon when it comes to dubbing in the US when listening to panels with the voice actors. I think a lot of the hate stems from the times when pretty much all the dubs were mutilations but 20 years has passed and anime is way more popular globally now so I’m sure the dubs have gotten much better but the ones that made the transition to sub just stuck with it, especially with the perk of being able to follow up on stories earlier. That era just left a big enough impact on western anime culture that some people can’t get rid of that notion that dubbing anime is defiling it which spurs the fighting. For me it was pretty much 4Kids singlehandedly ruining any chance of a dubbed experience and 15 years later I still can’t stand a half assed line dubbed - probably because I can speak the language well enough to notice which isn’t the case for japanese so it flies under the radar. I never understood the ridiculous hostility in western anime culture as you pretty much can’t express an opinion at all without someone wanting to death note you. Is it so hard to not shove your own opinion down another’s throat simply for not having yours I love anime but it’s pretty much a cult with a million civil wars in the west now which sucks because it makes it so much more intimidating to get in to.
As a long time anime watcher, i must say if u understand decent amount of the spoken japanese you should always watch it sub. Dub still has a lot to go through. If u somehow get used to japanese voice acting its hard watching any anime dubbed at all.
I love it when dub has feelings and emotions, like dbz dub , Sean Schemell. Most other dubs feel like they are reading a script with no feelings at all.
@@milesyoungblood7173 well yes cuz he is right. Almost all the time movies and series are better watched in the Original language if you can understand it. Tho mainstream series and movies sometimes may have good voice actors in your language. But Anime rarely ever get any decent voice actors. And no matter what you cant even compare voice acting of the japanese to other ones. They've specialized people to voice act anime characters. Anime Voice Actor that are considered bad in Japan would probably be one of the best here (skillwise).
I think Dragon Ball z and JoJo (mainly part 5) are literally the only two dubs in existence that receive no hate and are actually praised by the sub community.
@@jager3572 I'm beginning to think that this place really has no clue how things work in dubbing or subbing. THERE IS NO LIP FLAPPING OR ANIMATION CHANGING FOR DUBBING. English VAs have to time their lines exactly with the animation or it will look completely off. Even a "good" japanese voice actor can't pick up a new language that easy and won't be able to adapt to the condition of how dubbing actually works. Anime has a plethora of great voice actors, so I'm not sure where you're getting that from. J Michael Tatum (voiced Erwin Smith and Okabe Rintarou), Yuri Lowenthal (Sasuke), Steve Blum (Spike Spiegel, who is considered to be much better than the sub VA), Troy Baker (Pain), and a lot more. Dubbing ENG va is objectively more difficult than doing the subbed voice acting because the animation is tailored toward that original language. In fact anime is the only medium that has good voice actors, live action series and movie have terrible dubbing because it's even more harder to dub and lip sync the actors properly because they're no just frames and have more complex movements with lips and tongue.
I just looks weird to me, and they seem to make less effort with the voice actors (or the voice actors make less of an effort?), but it's not ALWAYS the case, and like you pointed out, it doesn't really matter it's preference. In JRPGs, I usually at least give the English voices a chance for a while and if they're good leave it there. I also mostly watch/play fantasy and sci-fi and it kind of helps with the exoticness. Again though, preference, and I don't understand the hate - wait, no I do. Hatred is the one product humanity mastered creating aeons ago.
I really don't understand why sub watchers can't just except someones preference. Like some anime I prefer dub, and others sub. why is it so hard for them to do that?

Just got into anime last year at first I could agree with griffy but after seeing the light I gotta agree with the weebs, subs just way better on most animes.
I love how this isn’t even as issue with literally any other country’s shows, yet it’s some unholy thing to watch anime in another language. edit: y'all just watch anime however you want. we're all still watching the same show just enjoying it differently. you're not better than someone just for watching it in a different language than they're not watching in (this is directed towards everyone not just sub watchers, I watch some anime in sub some in eng dub and some in french dub for practice. it's just preference, timing, quality, and emotion vs. comedy typically for me)

I like both. Some things like fighting-based anime like my hero is better with sub but happy go lucky and slice of lifes are better in dub bc it adds to the comedic feel
Blae Jhin Booka depends on what you buy. I guess theres not really much i dislike about android besides their operating systems, but thats just because ive had an iphone all my life :/ That being said, i still prefer IOS devices
It depends on what you buy but that's only if u are trying to spend less than what an iPhone costs. Not knocking your preference, but objectively, there never has been and never will be an iPhone that beats any Android that retails with the same price tag.
@FriendlyandKind no, just saying that a person who is supposed to have a specific accent won't sound different in Japanese. Plus, I don't think dub has a shortage of emotion and expression. Look at Naruto absolutely amazing dub. I watch both dub and sub tho, really doesn't matter. I'm just pointing out the pros of dub over sub since most people act like dub is unwatchable.
@FriendlyandKind I'm not saying they need an accent, but if you have a spanish or asian character for example if it's sub there is no difference in accent between a Spanish or Asian character compared to a Japanese character. Do you understand what I'm saying.

I usually watch anime dubbed since that's how I first started watching it. I like subs too, especially the delivery and if it's the only kind that's available, but it gets kinda challenging to watch and read at the same time. I don't have any eye conditions or ADHD but that's just how I prefer it. To me, it's still the same anime. I know this makes me sound like a, "filthy dub watcher" but that's just my thoughts. If you don't like dubs, that's cool. We can all be friends. Edit: Now that I think about it, my comment seems pretty biased against sub watchers. Not to worry, I know a lot of dub watchers are like this too.
Tbh tho depends on the anime like cowboy bebop has a really good dub but for most shows it just sounds weird because they're trying to make english speech match up with the japanese intonations and mouth movements so it just ends up sounding super exaggerated and ruining any seriousness.
