@@HotspurSkill Considering he won international trophies with spectacular performance in 2016 and being 6th best player in that year, he can be considered among the best in history IMP, He was better than ramos “defensively” that’s for sure, but Ramos produced a Glamorous career that could cement him as the best defender in History
@@mash5oo692 even Cristiano Ronaldo has said that Pepe was the best player of Euro 2016, and noy Griezmann, so I understand why. But I won't rule out Griezmann, what an unbelievable player in the tournament.
My man. Unpopular opinion: top 4 cbs in the last 10 years and ranks between top 10 ever. This beast was so regular when he played for us. People might think he was slow but he had blistering pace (he catched up nearly everybody as you can see) and was the best defender i have ever seen on aerial duels. Absolute gem of a video
Quick, strong, intelligent, intense, good timing and agile with long legs. This guy was something else, he made elite attackers look like 12 year olds. I dont think he is a dirty player just very intense.
At age 39 he still is nearly as good. The best defender of his generation by a mile. Unfairly treated because he lost his cool once in his life. Besides that he ONLY GOT 8 RED CARDS IN OVER 20 YEARS, which is absolutely remarkable for a central defender playing against the best players on earth.
THE GOAT. Pepe is the best pure defender of this generation. He was basically the only one capable of stopping prime Messi. Honorable mention Casemiro.
Hate that lots of people see him as a dirty player but he is one of the CB Goats. Even ronaldo said that Pepe was the best player of Euro 2016, and not griezmann. But I won't rule out Griezmann what an unbelievable player he was too at the tournament.
@@nacho_197 He actually is the defender that is in the top 5 of the top competitions who get the least cards for a couple seasons now. He's incredible.
Honourable mention: Varane As a Barca fan I wanted both Pepe and Varane out of Madrid or not to face us in classicos at least. They were complete defenders and WAYY better than Ramos defensively. Ramos would give us free goals in defence, although he's much better overall. As for Casemiro: Messi destroyed him many times in that classico when he scored the goal in the last minute
@@maazmustafa2322 To be fair IMO Varane compensates a lot with his speed. Its also easier to play as a sweeper than the role Ramos has which was being an interceptor. However, the mixture of both is what made that defence great, but Pepe had both. He was an interceptor and sweeper at the same time. As for Casemiro, he had one off game vs Messi, but just check the stats bro. Messi the past 5 years has finished the LEAST dribbles vs Casemiro(funny enough, Pepe and Varane are 2nd and 3rd) I have a video of literally Casemiro stopping Messi over the years. The reason why he and Pepe were so good in stopping Messi, is because they never stop walking towards Messi. They'll instantly close the gap and use their size and lack of space for Messi to turn in to push him off. Sincerely astonishing to see. And I know, no disrespect to Ramos who by far was the most important defender and second most important player behind Ronaldo, but Ramos has always had a hard time dealing with quick small players like Messi or Neymar. However, those two are also two of about all players in the world that he cannot stop. Especially with players like Lewandowski, he just completely shuts them down.
@@Dotsetc Yea, I see you've made good points. I think with casemiro and Messi from what I've seen on RU-vid just now, it's been a close battle. I didn't realize myself during those games he made a lot of tackles. However I thought "stopping" in your sentence means pocketing Messi. Only Varane and Pepe have completely shut out Messi or won a large majority of their duels with him. Pepe especially stopped the best dribbling version of Messi ( before 2012), when he could pick up the ball and run at defenders for the entire game. That Messi was faster, could handle physicality better and had better balance. As for Casemiro, from the clips on RU-vid I've seen of his duels with Messi, I wouldn't he's edged it overall. And if he's not done that with this Messi, I doubt he'd do it with the pre 2012 Messi.
@@polperezfernandez3115 did you not watch the beginning of the video? Are you that incompetent or can your brain just not process the content that is given to you that is this video??
Yea. Can never forget this game when he owned not just Messi but the whole Barcelona team... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5mLnuCORMrU.html
Makes it look so easy huh, messi: 100+ successful dribbles, 20+ goals 10+ assists, 2 free kick goals, 2 hat tricks, more el Classico wins, but it’s so easy right
what great video about pepe thank you for all your work you are the best youtuber in the world because of your senstionell videoclips its so unique everyoner in the yourtube world knows it
Idk why people hate on him, if you've ever been on a local town pitch you know damn well you won't be treated similar to the profession athletes. His aggressive play was pretty much the most scary part of Real Madrid's back line... you wouldn't dare do crazy flare tricks if you loved your legs. It is very entertaining to watch player battle it out like real men with physique and intimidation. And not fall over like garden vases with the slightest of touches. 💀
I remember that year he grew out his hair I thought for some reason it was over for this guy he was getting old and nice. Then I seen the tackle on neymar and carvajal. He was about to end both their careers he could care less
12 controversial tackles( not mentioning red card) vs prime Messi (just yellow or nothing) plus 20 clean tackles vs prime Messi. Short circuit made him look bad. Never seen any defender with so much clean tackles vs prime Messi in a short span of time. Casemiro and Ramos outclassed messi only at the old age of Messi. But pepe is pepe.
that game at 0:50, I think that was the champions league game he kept Messi quiet...until Dani Alves' theatrics got him sent off. what happened after that? Messi scored twice
He didn’t keep him quiet Messi created a lot of chances with Pepe on the pitch, rewatch the game. But props to Mourinho nonetheless because Messi did a lot less damage to Madrid when Mourinho played Pepe in from of the back four as a DM
Idk how pepe is only known for his aggressiveness but not his absolutely defensive skills. Ramos is good in balls and ables to get forward but pepe. Man pepe is a freaking tank
@@jasonhughes6896 Messi has been great aganist Madrid no Cap. But look how many times Pepe took the ball from him. That is rare when we are talking about Messi
@@MayheM_646 we are talking about messi from 2010-2015, wont say prime but his best physical years when messi could beat everyone 1 on 1. even then pepe made him look like sandbag.
Ramos was not able to stop ronaldinho or messi, in fact ronaldinho make him look like average at that time of you look in youtube you will find ronaldinho umilating ramos
