MÚSICA (1935) (a Federico Moreno Torroba) Los dias son duros, No es hora de versos, de preciosidades ni garliborleos. Los Hombres se miran con odio.Lo tierno, lo amable,lo dulce, no es fruta del tiempo. Hoy reina lo agrio impera lo serio. La Vida está triste. El Mundo está feo. Both of you make fair points. MrDizzyvonclutch is completely right. However, this clip is probably ripped from a copyrighted old DVD and is usually impractical for average music lovers to buy. So I agree that in this case it shouldn't be involved in copyright issues. But copyright should protect most of music and art, which is an artist or musician's work and career.
Sensitively, exquisitely composed and played. I like also seeing and hearing Sr. Romero talk about the piece. Getting this other impression of him enriches the performance. Thank you for uploading.
Fantastic Player - I saw Pepe close to 20 years ago on a special tour with Paco Pena, Joe Pass and Leo Kotke. Paco was great but Pepe ultimately stole the show. I was in tears - that's how good he was!
Just watched Anna Vidovich play this, the difference in interpretations is amazing. It's hard to believe that two people play the same piece so differently. Love both though

Do you mean on the sides? it's only one piece of wood, Rio rosewood, with two colours(dark brown and yellow). Rodriguez was famous for this special selection of R. rosewood that he used on is best guitar called "churchdoor".
K Boudreaux looking at the rosette, headstock and solera, I'd guess that's a guitar by Miguel Rodriguez with top of Western Red Cedar, back and sides of highly figured Brazilian Rosewood. The back and sides are just solid wood, not 2 types
A ver, a ver, tampoco hay que pasarse de sentimentalismos. La pieza ya es sentimental de por sí, lo que hay que hacer es meterle ritmo a eso, y un poco de vida con un poco más de velocidad, pero sin pararse, no vaya a ser que te guste la velocidad y la locura en la guitarra y acabes con las muñecas jodidas.
Tal vez sea porque me haya acostumbrado a la version de Segovia (hasta el momento es mi favorita). Esta version en particular no me ha gustado para nada, y no es que critique la tecnica de Romero, simplemente es demasiado lenta para mi gusto. En realidad no se si describirla como lenta, en partes la velocidad esta bien pero a veces pareciera pausar algunas frases de la obra.
Si, eso es lo que digo, te puedes dormir escuchándolo. Yo también estoy acostumbrado a escuchar la versión de Segovia, que tiene mucho más ritmo y vida, por alguna razón. Aunque es verdad que desde un principio a mi Pepe Romero no me dice mucho, para mi está demasiado inmerso en el folklore y el espíritu español.
Muchas veces, el sentimiento es más importante que la velocidad. El sentimiento y expresividad de Pepe Romero es uno de sus grandes atributos. Sin olvidar su gran técnica y dominio de la guitarra. Sus aprendizajes flamencos en su niñez que su padre Celedonio puso en manos de Paco Ávila le han proporcionado un plus de energía y expresividad que incorpora a la guitarra clásica
Yes his performance would sound much better if it was not a recording and thus a great deal of the sound is lost to us. This is the nature of an instrument that has fantastic sympathetic resonance resources. Unfortunately those who cannot tune instrument or have ever actually played one usually miss this point. For instance tone deaf piano wankers have a tendency to think that everything needs compensated temperament to be in tune and their ears and musical mind is set this way. Pepe like all great guitarists can change the temperament of the instrument with the touch of the left hand as he plays so the tuning is not constant the way a keyboard instrument is. In fact a good guitar can tune slightly differently every day and still sound great in the hands of a great guitarist.
