There is no Pepe Silvia, The man does not exist So I go up to Carol, But now I'm really pissed I walk in through the HR door and I think it's what you've missed There is no Carol in HR, half these guys don't exist
Didn't notice the cardboard cutout of data until like, the last five seconds. Kinda freaked me out. Still, awesome bass skills! Loved kinda diminished(?) slide on "there is no Carol in HR".
haha, you should see how freaked out people get when they actually come into my apartment and see Data staring at them. And thanks a lot! For the music nerds: it's not really a diminished slide (just chromatic tritones going up a major third), but I know what you mean, it does almost sound diminished.
I didn't think such beautiful art existed for my ears! Now I HAVE to try the Pepe Silvia monologue for my channel, you, this, the guy's original drum cover have inspired me!
they're onto me dude, those guys are sharp as nails out there you can't put anything past them Oh my god dude i'm freaking out i'm so stressed out, i feel like i'm having a panic attack you wanna talk about stress, you wanna talk about stress!? okay! i stumbled on to a major company conspiracy mac, how bout that for stress the hell are you talking about? this company's being bled like a stuck pig mac, and i've got a paper trail to prove it, check this out take a look at this jesus christ charlie that right there is the mail, now lets talk about the mail, can we talk about the mail? please mac i've been dying to talk about the mail with you all day okay? pepe silvia, his name, keeps coming up over and over again, every day, pepe's mail keeps getting sent back, pepe silvia, pepe silvia, open it up, why this whole box is pepe silvia so i say to myself, i gotta find this guy, i gotta go up to his office, i gotta deliver his mail, in the guys goddam hands, otherwise he's never gonna get it, and its gonna keep coming back down here so i go up to pepe's office and what do i find out mac, what do i find out? there is no pepe silvia the man does not exist okay so i decided oooooh shit buddy i gotta dig a little deeper, there's no pepe silvia you gotta be kidding me, i got boxes full of pepe alright so i start marching my way down to carol in hr, and i knock on her door and i say carol, carol, i gotta talk to you about pepe, and when i open the door and what do i find, there's not a single goddamn desk in that office, there is. no. carol in hr mac, half the employees in this building have been made up. this office is a goddamn ghost town. okay charlie i'm gonna have to stop you right there. not only do all of these people exist, but they have been asking about their mail on a daily basis, its all they're talking about up there. jesus christ man we are gonna lose our jobs. well calm down cos here's one thing that's not gonna happen. what? we're not gonna get fired. why not? cos we've already been fired
I can't see my reply anymore! but it looks like you were able to see it. Anyway, I got cardboard Data a long time ago and just can't bring myself to throw it out. Plus I like how creepy it looks having him way in the back.
sub kilohertz oscillations Yeah it does look pretty funny tbh, gives your videos more character haha. But either way, this video's hilarious and awesome
i think an entire movie like this might get exhausting. but i'd be willing to put in the work for the right movie. maybe even a movie written with this in mind.
this is Charlie Level Genius: I don't know what I'm talking about - only a Charlie level person would understand the scope of it's audio capabilities. Well done once again! Might as well do a Dennis or Dee or Frank one too! (and throw in a Rickety Cricket for bonus insanity)
I noticed that cardboard cutout guy in the left corner half way through the video and now I can't stop looking at it. It's creeping me out lol. But this is fucking awesome dude
Great work! I was wondering if you might be willing to do a short tutorial demonstrating your workflow on something like this. Do you go straight from the source to your fingers or do you transcribe it on paper in between? I'd like to work on something like this for clarinet/sax but I wanna go about it the most efficient way :)
I can tell you how I go about it! It's pretty straight forward. I use a program called Transcribe! (there are other programs, but I can't say enough good things about Transcribe!) and I just section off and loop little parts. Sometimes just a few words at a time. For this one I also had to slow it down (I still think it sounds good slowed way down). Having David Dockery's drums to play along with made this much easier because I just had to fall in line with him. For this, I also made the decision to move up by half steps for a good portion of it, but I was also sort of trying to match pitch, though more going for the 'feel' of it than worrying about actual notes. There is no pen or paper here. Just 6 or so hours of slowly working through it, and then getting it up to speed. Unless you're writing it out to save it for later, adding paper to the mix can only slow you down IMO, but I am a huge fan of aural learning.
sub kilohertz oscillations Thanks so much for the thorough answer! I've used that software before for other transcriptions - I'll have to give it a shot! I just like writing stuff like that down for posterity and so I can subject my friends and foes to my work ;)
If you've done other transcriptions before, this will be no different! It's easier in some ways. I really like how with this project I get to play a bit of melody, bass lines and counter melody at times. Trying to sculpt cadences around drum fills and such. Good composition study for sure. I cannot even imagine trying to write out some of these rhythms though! I think I'd only consider writing it out after I had recorded it. Otherwise I'd be likely to get half way done, and then say _"I'll just come back to it later! I have the first half written down already!"_ and then I'd never come back to it.
Fantastic work! But I do have a question -- what exactly does the thing on your headstock do and does it make a huge difference to the sound? I've seen them online before but it sounded like a bunch of baloney, but I'm very curious to hear from an actual owner. Edit: taking a second look it seems that my eyes may be deceiving me and that it's actually a tuner but I can't be sure, I was thinking that it may have been one of the things that adds mass to the headstock
that's just my TC polytune! More mass to the headstock is baloney. Sure, every possible little thing you do changes the sound. But enough to notice? Every time you touch the instrument it is a new you. And usually the more expensive the bass, the lighter the tuners. But I have heard that headstock myth before. And bass notes ring out forever anyway, who needs more sustain? how long are people holding their notes?
sub kilohertz oscillations Ah, so it seems that my eyes were deceiving me, and yeah I thought the whole mass thing was a little fishy. Thanks for the reply!
there's certainly no magic. just loop the audio in small chunks over and over again until you find something that works. It takes around 5-6 hours for something this long and wordy. It's really no different than trying to learn a song though. lots of repetition.
I didn't give the video a thumbs down, because this is fantastic. Keep doing this kind of thing, but maybe with the bass volume mixed down a little bit next time--that was my only gripe.
Paul Fox that’s fair. my only counter argument is this is a bass channel and i like hearing a lot of bass. if this was an album maybe i’d mix it differently. i was also trying to mix it so you could still hear some bass if listening through a phone or something with garbage speakers. luckily the isolated bass and drum tracks are available and everyone is welcome to mix the instruments in a way that is personally pleasing. cheers!
yeah, it's tough to mix for phones, laptops, desktops, and headphones. I can hear them just fine, but I did have to listen to the clip for about 6 hours.
sub kilohertz oscillations didn't plan on starting with it, but was more of a lonnnnng term goal thing, and I've been playing guitar for a while so I've kind of got that foundation
fair enough. But still, I'd say if you aren't at a level where you can figure this sort of thing out by ear, it's probably best to focus on scales, arppegios, and actual songs. This took me about 5 hours to compose and then 2 days to get up to speed (and I have been playing for 23 years). Most "regular" songs I can learn in under 10 minutes.
