You all prolly dont give a shit but does any of you know of a way to log back into an Instagram account?? I was stupid forgot my account password. I appreciate any help you can give me!
I wish I would have found this before loosing half my succulent 😌 So helpful and exactly what I figured out. It's been coming back slowly but I think it needs more humidity like you suggested. Thanks again! Can't wait to see what happens
It’s always good to see someone giving advice when they actually have a big healthy plant. And that one that they just picked up from the nursery. Thank you so much for the tips! I am trying to revive my sick little string of turtles. Wish me luck!
I live in Southern California and I’ve been looking for these for two entire years! Had never seen them at any nurseries and each time I would find them online it would be around $25 to get a small 2-inch plant shipped to me which I couldn’t justify. I finally found one at a local nursery yesterday!! $12 for a 3-inch. I’m so excited to finally have one.
A little local owned, awesome plant shop opened near me this year, got a nice 4” pot for around $17. It’s now trailed down about 4 or 5 inches. Now I’m seeing them everywhere, even my grocery store has some….but they all look a little sad and overwatered.
I don't know why but recently I have become so fascinated by these. Although I have seen them at the nursery many times and I have always liked peperomias, I am just obsessed with these!
Thank you so much! It really is such a balancing act with watering ... I highly recommend putting it in a breezy location. It really helps solve the watering conundrum - for me at least it did!
Loved this video. I've had kind of a love hate relationship with this one for a while. It's pretty tricky for me but I'm getting it to grow a lot better than I did. This helps for sure. Thanks for sharing it with us! Yours looks amazing😍
Pour water until it comes out from the bottom :) misting it isn't enough in my opinion. Days in between watering depends on four environment and how much light it's getting so it's better to monitor your plant for signs of dehydration to determine watering frequency @infinitum
Great informative video , Thankyou. I’m in NSW .. I brought a very small plant of this for $20 sight unseen. It’s proved to be a very fragile plant and I now have it on my back porch plant shelves , facing west with a grey coloured shade cloth over the opening part of the porch. I just leave it alone and check on it every other day. It obviously is not a fan of too much water and you’ve explained why. I did pay way too much but on looking elsewhere they appear to be expensive anyway. Your video has given me some insight to its care. I was treating it like my other string of plants but noooo , I’ll look up your other videos and I’ve liked and subscribed .
Hi Margaret, thank you so much for your comment! I really appreciate it and keeps me going when I know it helps others too. It sounds like where you have it now is a great spot and hope it thrives in that location! Although, it's getting cooler now in NSW so keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn't get too cold!
Unfortunately not very common over here, finally came across it for the first time in person today after a year in of my plant journey. $19 for a 2in pot.
We just bought one today and everyone was telling us how they had one and it died so I was worried. Thanks for this video. We do have a humidifier in the room so hopefully that will help. We have the wrong kind of pit though so we have to change that. Because it was a tropical plant I was going to mist it, but you didn’t mention that at all. So we won’t do that.
Succulents don't tend to like fertilizers because they grow in areas where the soil is not super high in nutrients so they really don't need the extra nutrients in their soil.
Your sot is stunning!! I repotted mine into a glazed pot and the water didn't drain well and it's got some root rot, I'm trying to save it so I'm going to repot it into a Terracotta pot today. Wish me luck.
I have a 2 inch trail of tiny turtles propogating in spagnum, a gift from a new plant friend ❤ I've learned the hard way about overwatering (SOP 😶). Recently I heard that you should "water the plant, not the pot", meaning if you have a little plant in a bigger pot - give enough water for the plant; there's no need to saturate the pot. Watering from the top makes sense too as I imagine it's fairly shallow rooted? Peperomia prostrata. That's fun to say! My new friend also gave me lots of Peperomia leaf cuttings; fingers crossed the prop box keeps them happy over a chilly NZ winter 😊
Hi Michelle! Totally, I agree with your tips. With these guys they don't mind getting wet as long as they don't stay wet for a prolonged period of time. Air flow is key! And you're right, I don't saturate the soil of this plant at all! Hope they're doing okay in the cooler temps over in NZ!
Rachel's Indoor Garden led me to your channel and I'm very glad she did, as I love finding other Australians. Your turtles are amazing. I killed my first, but the 2nd is thriving, surprisingly. I will definitely use some of your tips. The only thing I will add is that my Turtles love Seasol. I look forward to seeing more of your videos. 😊
Hi there! Welcome! Thanks so much for your feedback. I really appreciate it 😊 I've also killed my first 🤫 it's all a learning experience! I've thought of trying diluted fertilisers but I'm just so scared of ruining it that I'd rather be safe 😅
The most impressive thing is you waving this plant around. All other videos on it treat it delicately so it doesn't lose leaves. Maybe yours doesn't shed as much?
😂 Your comment cracked me up, love it Rebecca! Mine does shed a leaf or two whenever I pick it up and hold it but once that happens it's pretty stable even if I wave it around lol 😅
I cannot thank you enough for your video! I just binge watched sooo many to find out why my turtle shells were bleaching! I was giving them too much light! I do have a question though, do you need to provide its light source to the crown to prevent balding like other string varieties? I need to find a new place for mine. She looks exactly like yours but I am scared to make it bald since I cannot hang it anywhere else. Can you offer advice on this?
Awesome video. Mine has lots of the flower stems atm.....should i be cutting them off to promote growth in the leaves 🍃 summer has just started here in NZ so I want to make the most of this time for more leaf growth.
I use aquarium fertilizer and mix a few drops in the water when I’m watering it xD I started to love plants when growing aquatic plants in my aquariums, and I found the fertilizer I use works well with my succulents too 😅☺️
I have recently discovered that a good number of my plants have thrips 😞. This pest is new to me and I spent a good deal of my evening washing leaves and treating all of my plants with insecticidal soap. The only plant I have not treated is my string of turtles which is especially sentimental to me. I can not see any thrips on it but feel like I should treat it just to be safe. I am afraid to put any product on it. Has anyone successfully treated a string of turtles? Any recommendations on safe products that will keep my plant happy and healthy?
I had one that was almost completely dead- I found a few leaves that were still alive and I managed to get it alive again but it’s only managed to develop two vines. It grows very slowly and I find it hard to envision it growing to a big plant again, sigh.
Hi Grace...would you say this plant would or would not prefer sun from the top like the string of pearls? or general indirect sunlight...great video! Thanks.
Need tips for repotting a string of turtles with 2 foot lengths. Some strands are turning yellow so I assume it needs a repot and freshen up but I can’t find a good how too for a longer plant. Any tips?
I just came from another you tube video that seems to contradict everything in this one🥺 following her advice, I placed my teeny tiny 2 inch pot of turtles ( which has not been doing great) into a plastic box with holes and spag moss... like an empty strawberry container from the grocery store. I don't think it's having issues with root rot but there's definitely no improvement. Mine just does not seem to want to grow.
That's a fair question! Leaves won't regrow along the bare vines but you can hide it behind fuller vines if you don't like the look of it. I left the bare vines and it continues to grow longer and fill out lower down :) Hope that helps
I have a question about the specifics of top watering this plant. should I always be moving the plant out of the way like I have been? or am I fine to just kinda pour water on top. I'd just keep doing what I'm doing but the vines seem very fragile and im always scared of pulling off a leaf or a vine by accident even though I'm being gentle. just got one of these from my friend cause she had to get rid of a few plants that she couldn't keep caring for
Thanks for the advice! I have a question, I have to be very careful when I move it to water it, I lose alot of leaves if I move it or even touch some of the vines. Is it because I don't water it enough? Thank you!
Hi there honestly I don't water until it comes out of the drainage holes. Just around the top in one swift motion. They don't need the soil to be saturated imo
Mine has turned crispy brown. What did I do wrong? I bought it in 6" hanging basket. It does have a few green strands left. Any help/advice is greatly appreciated.
Pour water until it comes out from the bottom :) misting it isn't enough in my opinion. Days in between watering depends on four environment and how much light it's getting so it's better to monitor your plant for signs of dehydration to determine watering frequency
Mine got light green leaves and darker blue green leaves. Also lots of flowers. Looks like a mess compared to your plant. I guess it will look kinda good, if it grows long vines that's trailing down.
Im right on the line for central and southern Florida. We have a hand full of days a month in winter that is actually cold (or cold to me and my tropical plants lol) i bring my tropical plants inside on those days. Would this plants do well outside here where i am? Im in 9b and 10a zone.
Ok for real though, how do you personally *know* when it needs water? This one and string of pears tell me nothing. They're so delicate and dense, rooting around in the leaves feels wrong. I hate doing it 😬😬😬 have you or anyone here used the meter sticks? Are they worth it? Also could you please tell me if your bleached leaves darkened back up once it was in the right spot?
Ok personally, I can tell they need a water by checking the tips. When they get dry or look like they're drying out, I give it a drink. But I don't let it get to that stage by giving it a small amount every week or so. And because it's getting some air circulation it really doesn't matter if it's a little bit more than what they need because it'll evaporate easily since it's a small amount. If you tend to completely saturate the plant and the soil, I'd say the best way to tell is when the top leaves get squishy and not firm like a button anymore.
I've also used meter sticks and sustees but I prefer just checking on the plant and looking for signs of dehydration (as mentioned above). Just that the sticks take the guess work out of it!
@@MyFellowFoliage Thank you so much! Your channel has told me two things I couldn't find anywhere else. I was literally talking to a friend about the leafs getting pale the other day while giving her some propagated pieces. .I figured they just grew out of the definition. I came here to find a video for her and instead learned some important new tricks.
@@MyFellowFoliage The airy location makes so much sense to me. I'm realizing now that mine hates being in a cover pot💡💡. I'd bet one with airflow would suit it much better
Wow a thumbs down for that price, I paid $20 in nsw for a very poor specimen, I have it hanging on a rail in the man cave and I don’t touch it apart from an odd spray of water. Too delicate . I’m determined to keep it going .
They should be available now!!! I saw some posts from the US about 2 weeks ago, people were saying that big box stores have them! And I’m Canadian and we JUST got them at our Walmart yesterday!
