Thanks for the package pinning example, DJ. Very helpful. Also, although I have a tech background, I'm now a 75 year old user, and I've found that I don't like change, at least in my OS. It's the reason that my main distro is now Debian instead of Fedora. ;->

Welcome Andrew, as you know I also ditched my old friend Fedora, I may go back to it someday

Some of those who moaned about the direction of the new build would do well to revisit the distribution (and Mark's) history as laid out here. Thanks! :)

Thanks DJ. Very informative. I watched eznix video this morning and applied his instructions to get the latest Firefox and afterwards the latest Thunderbird tar. They show up in the Whisker menu now and I have pinned them on the panel. Wow Peppermint did very well in all the tests on the end. I'm using it since thursday and so far it has been very stable. It installed in less than 3 minutes on my refurbished Dell 5050 Optiplex. On thing I've noticed that is has a very large swap partition of 17.1G. I resized it to 2G with gparted.

yeah on my machine it chose 8GB, a little more swap than I need so I also reduced it

At about 20:30, you start talking about how engineers like change. I have to admit that I would agree with you. They definitely like to constantly change things and really, really hate having to troubleshoot anything old that their changes broke.

oh my yes, I don't know how many times even after testing, one user would find the bug you didn't think would ever happen :D

Thanks for the video. I used to run Peppermint on my old eeepc and Dell XPS M1330 after CrunchBang ended. Liked it a lot. I recently installed 10 Respin on the M1330 again and was a bit disappointed in it. Went back to MX, which I have used quite a bit recently. It sounds like Peppermint 11 might be worth another try. Thanks, again.

Living in the Dominican Republic my favorite distro for the many ancient PCs here was Peppermint 10. Last year I installed Peppermint 10 on a Pentium 4 HT (1C2T; 3.0GHz). I installed it on btrfs using two 40GB IDE HDDs in Raid-0 :) Unfortunately Peppermint killed the 32-bit version, so I have to look for a new favorite distro :( It should look like Windows XP (still the main competitor here) and it should be very reliable. I'm considering FreeBSD 13.0 with XFCE or keep using Peppermint 10, any other suggestions?

AntiX Linux is one of the lite weight distro are useful for old PC. It stinks that they killed off the 32-bit version.

I've installed snap support on my VBox Peppermint 11 and afterwards the Firefox 97 snap and it works fine. Loading/decompression time on my Ryzen 3 2200G/SP nvme-SSD is really acceptable.

Thank you. I am a new user and generally enjoy using Peppermint OS 11. However I am concerned about it updating from unstable. Can unstable be disabled so that it only runs stable?

Just because memory is cheap doesn't mean programmers can be lazy and not optimize for speed AND size.
