Honestly, as much as i love how the fandom romanticises Percy rejecting immortality for Annabeth, that is not what happened. He rejected immortality for many reasons. Annabeth was one of them, but he also rejected it for all the demigs that died in the war, for the ones who went unclaimed for years, for the minor gods that were mistreated by the Olympians for being minor gods, for all the ones like Calypso who were unjustly punished, all in an effort to stop such a war from ever happening again. This is why i think there are 2 scenes that are more romantic than that scene. For one, the time Percy held up the fucking sky for her. A maneuver that would have easily exhausted even a full god, and he did it just for Annabeths sake. Just to protect her. But then also, the scene where he goes down to Tartarus for the Curse of Achilles, and Annabeth is literally his anchor to the mortal world.
