dynamiccontractiontechnique.com I'm going to talk about one of my inventions and the difference between percussive massage tools like the Hypervolt versus the Rolflex Pro, which is one of the tools that I've developed, which is the first compressive leveraged based foam roller on the market.
And it's actually pretty simple, the difference between the two is that a percussive massage device, a vibration tool is going to have a much larger effect systemically on the nervous system, it's something to be used to help calm down a muscle that's either overly agitated or firing or cramping, it's also something that you can use to move fluid through a muscle that just worked out.
And in the clinic, I use it all the time after performing DCT exercises, we tend to have a pretty strong burn leftover in the muscle. And if I use the Hypervolt for literally five seconds on an area that's burning, stops the burn, allows us to move on to the next exercise.
So this is a very valuable tool, I know there's a lot of different kinds out there, you can experiment and test which ones work for you but I do want to tell you the difference between percussion and leverage-based massage. So, a tool like the Rolflex Pro here allows you to not just do a neurological trick with the body where you use the percussion to calm the muscle down. This actually is a tool used to do therapy and specifically, it allows you to do active release therapy, which is one of the most potent forms of massage on the market today.
So to demonstrate the difference when I adjust the Rolflex Pro to fit a body part like my arm, I can place my arm between the two rollers and then I'm in full control of the leverage. I'm also in control of where I want to apply pressure very specifically. So the center roller is over one of my extensors if I apply that pressure, I can then do active release, which involves me slowly and deliberately contracting the muscle under the pressure.
And what you'll feel is that you're working from the inside out versus a percussive device is working from the outside in. So as I work and use my own leverage instead of my body weight or gravity, I can be very pinpoint with the therapy that I want to perform. So that in and of itself sets compressive leverage-based tools in a class of their own when it comes to massage devices.
Now I'm not saying that percussion massagers are not valuable, every tool out there has its value, I'm just saying that when we use those tools is important to understand, right? If you use a percussive massage device every day over and over and over again, you're not really going to be releasing long-term knots or chronic tension that's been in the tissue for a long time. You're going to make the body feel a little bit looser, you're going to give the body a little bit more blood to recover faster but therapeutically the muscle is not going to really be changing, the fascia is not going to be changing.
When you use a tool like the Rolflex Pro or the double up roller is another leverage-based tool that's on the market today, those tools actually create a physiological change to either the fascia and/or specifically a tension that's within local muscles. So hopefully that gives you a little better understanding. I use both devices constantly every day, usually with all my patients.
So, if you don't own a percussive device like the Hypervolt the Rolflex Pro or the double Up Roller, you should absolutely look into it.

I just got mine from Amazon today, it’s amazing, my forearms have not felt this “loose” in years. Thanks for making such a great product (though I think the “finish” of it could be improved a little, especially taking into account the price point). But the thing works very well, so the finish is less important, assuming it holds up.
