I got my mom to read the books, and when she finished the first book (she finished it in like 2 days 😂) as she handed it back to me, she said, “yeah movies weren’t like the book at all”
@@itzlilz8331 HE DID- 😭😭Chiron took him to the poseidon's cabin (which it's literally four pillars and a roof, there's not even walls man, it's on the fricking ocean) and he took a decoration trident and said "mY dAd'S pOsEiDoN"
@@Dgjserffft I mean as long as the actor doesn’t goof up I’ll let the race change slide. Its really stupid that hollywood does this but whatever. I’d love to see the backlash of if they made Beckendorf white or if they make Hazel white (if they eventually make a HoO series)
Yeah but at least Leah is age, personality, and backstory accurate in the show because in the movies Alexandra was 23 playing 16, had Clarisse's personality, and had literally no backstory
@@jididelacruz4472 Annabeth's character is all about empowerment. In the early 2000s when TLT first came out their was a negative stereotype around blonde women/girls that they were less intelligent than others because they were blonde. As the years passed though that stereotype died. Something that hasn't died after hundreds of years however is the negative stereotypes surrounding black women/girls. We now have 2 versions of Annabeth that are empowering and even more people can relate. If Annabeth Chase was a real person I think she'd be very proud to have Leah portraying her in the show.
It had, at the very least, been a big issue when the actors were announced. I can't say anything about it now, but considering there were people pissed that Rue from the Hunger Games _was canonically black_ and cast that way, I imagine there are still people upset and even refusing to watch because Annabeth is a black girl now. "Forced diversity" and all that 🙄
Oh, I see someone has discovered the difference between books with tons of character building and sub 1.5 hour films for preteens. Shit gets cut. Weird how adults always get upset when movies for 10 year olds don't always follow the book scene for scene 🤷 Not like it was on the level of a Harry Potter where guaranteed sequels and near 3 hour films were guaranteed. The studio gave them less than 2 hours and the book gave them 10 year old fans. Was never going to feature every single thing in one movie and making it two parts wasn't going to work for that crowd either. And if you think they should have tried making it for adults, you don't really get how marketing works 🙃
Book: We can’t use any electronics cuz they attract monsters to us Movie: *gamer Luke sounds intensify* Movie: *Percy checking Medusa’s reflection on a Phone spawn in*
As unfaithful of an adaptation the movie was, I’m willing to let the iPod Touch slide. I doubt they took demigod tech into consideration for the movie, but during the time it took place the iPod Touch didn’t have cellular data yet. Wifi could’ve attracted monsters, but Percy was on the road and in the middle of nowhere by the time he used it.
@@sxndrx49 its mentioned before that she has a small phone like a Nokia that she keeps in case of emergency, but its always turned off. She also gave her number to Sadie in the crossover
Now, WHERE ARE THE ORANGE CAMP HAPF BLOOD SHIRTS????????? Like, lemme know the address of the director and slap some sense into him. Please and thank you.
@@riftryn BLUE???? I DONT remember much of the movies (they were traumatizing) but out of all the colors they chose BLUE????? That’s literally the opposite of orange on the color wheel 💀
In defense of the movies, one of the most climactic fights of the first book is the final fight between Percy, a twelve year old, and a god of war who has been around for thousands of years. A child versus the god of war. I don’t think there is any director out there that could make that fight not look goofy as hell.
@@narendracost I can’t confirm my sister had a lot of notes from when she was watching the movie everything that was wrong and she had to get up 10 minutes in and she already had like 100 things
I once did a school project comparison between the movie and Percy Jackson book, because this project consisted in make a summary of a book that we were reading in the moment and my teacher allowed me to write bout that, and omg... I wrote a 30 page-ish project on Word, I compared each chapter with the movie scenes... at least I got the maximum grade :D
@@getdownonit8753 yeah but it shouldn't diverge THIS MUCH from the book, while it's alright to remove or add some scenes here and there, the ones working on the Percy Jackson movies made a whole story on their own, like wtf is Kronos doing in the sea of monsters? since when was riptide the cursed blade from the prophecy? Why is the mist a buyable perfume brand? Where is the ares vs Percy fight? Where is circe? Why did luke die to damn ployphemus, when did luke and Percy really fight in the first book? I have so many questions, if they were gonna diverge to the point of making there own story, then they shouldn't have even said that this movie series will be a live adaptation of the books
My bro, they aren't even supposed to have tech since it attracts monsters towards them. Luke having a full on Twitch streamer PC setup should be like a beacon to the monsters in the area, their should be an entire ring of monsters surrounding the area trying to break in
People used to complain about annabeth not being blonde, now if you complain cause new Annabeth is neither blonde nor the same race as in the books, you get attacked LMAO. Personally I dont really like the new casting, Percy and Annabeth dont really feel to me like they were described in the books, and it's a huge pet peeve of mine when characters in adaptations look drastically different than how they're described in the books (which is why I also had beef with brunette Annabeth of the first movie lol). Although I guess I preferred Percy's movies actor cause hewas in the books covers of my Percy Jackson series when I was a kid and I had a massive crush on him lmao. Anyway, I just hope the Disney series will look alright in terms of plot and acting.
It's fine to not like the casting, just don't go attacking the girl who was casted because then that's just downright mean. I feel Rick really went for who fits the personalities of the characters more so than who looks like them. It's better to have someone who doesn't look like the characters but has their personality than someone who just looks like the characters but brings nothing else to the table. Watching the first two episodes, I can confirm that while they don't look like the characters in the books, they most definitely do have their hearts and I'm excited to see where the show goes because it's really good rn.
@@themoviecritic1092I personally don't care to attack a young kid for this but Rick on the other hand. He is the one who hated the fact the trash movies didn't pick actors and actresses that looked like his characters and then doubled down himself. He attacked Daddario over being brunette in the first of the unspeakable horrors but tried calling people racist over doing the same to him over his Annabeth. My problem is we have a African-American character in Hazel do why not have her play her. Hell Rick has commissioned art for the first series of books and Annabeth is white. It just bothers me that whitewashing is so evil but blackwashing is fine and you are racist otherwise. Why is it so hard to treat people equally no matter how they look
@demonicexecutioner2734 I understand what you mean but honestly we don't know how the commissions were. I know Rick has a statement on his website addressing the issue and why he chose Leah. I don't think white erasure played a part in why he chose her, but what do I know? I'm just a movie review channel with 160 subs. My word is sorta meaningless, lmao. I can say that I do enjoy the show so far but if the casting for all the characters just turns you off then I understand :)
@@themoviecritic1092 glad we can have a calm discussion and/or debate about it. Lots of people wanna act like having the opinion I do is wrong or hateful. Im just frustrated cause I loved both the HoO and PJO series yet the author has made himself into a hypocrite who will attack others for having a similar opinion as he did for the movies.
Honestly I don't care about hair color or eye color. I think Walker Scobel plays a perfect Percy Jackson. Now the new Annabeth on the other hand made me a little mad. It's one thing changing hair color, but it's a whole new thing changing a characters race. Literally I cringe everytime I see Leah as Annabeth on the screen. It just makes me think that society is promoting black people to take over white roles and that white lives don't matter to other people.
People freaking out annabeth wasn’t blonde in the movies: Pjo series: wonderful black child actor (I love the actor for annabeth in the pjo series I don’t mean any hate to her. I just love that people freak out about her not being blonde)
@@GuilhermeSales09 You think Charlie as Luke is bad?! Bro his performance as Luke throughout the series has been *chef's kiss*!!! And the last scene between him and Walker in episode 8 was so amazing! Literally had me tearing up!
Lol whats much more funnier is Ares is important to the llot and appeared in the book but Persephone is there even though she isn't supposed to be at the Underworld in the books.
The first movie: Demigod vs Demigod go brr! The show: Demigod vs God of War, a fight for the ages and showcases the potential Percy has. Basically we're in good hand for the show.
rick chose her himself also- people cared a lit back then because it was one of the few character traits they couldve atleast tried to get right, and they butchered even that. (they also combined annabeth and clarise for some reason) in the show there is a lot of love and care put into translating everything from the books on screen, and imo having an actress that can portray annabeth well is more important than a blonde one who can't act
@softball8811 She does not give annabeth energy Annabeth is an arrogant b*tch in the novels, and nobody felt like punching her The annabeth in the TV show is arrogant detestable and annoying
at least percys actually 12 this time- also, rick riordan said watching the movies was like "watching his lives work go through a meat grinder". and he directed the show. Which is amazing so far.
They made the show a little diverse and they did it right this time, plus Rick was a major major part of production so he made sure everything was good. I really love the show as a person who read the books at the age of 11
I read the books and then forgot about them entirely, watched the movies and thought "wow these ain't half bad", reread the books and went "😐 this is a joke right ??"
If you got a problem with Anabeth 's hair colour, boy let me tell u about the series 😂 (i agree tbh i prefer the books over the series and movies both where eh)
No, but the fact that Luke is a gamer is the only thing I like about this movie. Just that, it will never fail to make me laugh at the thought of like being a gamer😂😂😂😂😂
@@tristan7720 I think that's a bit harsh? Rick picked the kids himself based on personalities and chemistries with one another, tho I will miss Annabeth's grey eyes
i might get hate for this, but it seems like even tho everyone was complaining about the previous actors not looking the characters, now just because it was rick’s choice its ok for the characters to look completely different in the series. i have nothing against the new actors, but i do wish we could have annabeth with her gray eyes and blonde princess curls, and percy with his sea green eyes since they were such a big part of the book.
exactly. i love the actors but i dont think they were the right choice, and its not fair that everyone loves this cast for the same reasons they hated the first cast.
@@georgialambrakis-vo8kjRick said it himself that what he was looking for was kids who could bring Percy, Annabeth, Grover's, etc... Personality to life, and personally, while I wanted Annabeth's grey eyes, I'm alr with it, so long as their personalities and their chemistry works well
@@zepshere8347 i agree. i can honestly say that ive been a fan of rick my entire life, and percy jackson was my childhood. i also love the actors he chose, especially walker scobell because i loved him in the adams projects and his personality is literally percy. i have really high hopes for the new series, but i still wish he could have picked actors that looked more similar to the mcs and that rick and the fans werent so hypocritical about it tho.
i kinda hope that for annabeth they make at least a tiny bit of her hair blond, like i’ve seen a lot of fanart with the ends of her hair being blond and i think that would be a cool factor but i could understand if they didn’t want to. i do also wish they had some type of contacts to change the eye color but idk.
I had enjoyed the movies before I read the books. After I read the first book I thought that the first movie was a joke. Just like the second movie. (Sorry if I made grammer mistakes.)
It's because they haven't read the books. I told one of my friends how I loved reading PJO and she said she had watched the movie. Then I told her the movie is different from the books and that she should read those instead. I then sent the first 3 books to her. Try using that tactic with your friend (s) especially if they love reading
@@night.shadow.no10 oh you misunderstood it a bit. It wasnt Disney who made the movies. Disney is making the TV show thats coming out soon i think it was 20th century fox who distributed the movies and the director for it was just horrible and completely denied Ricks criticisms of the script.
@@night.shadow.no10 as for the rest of the movies, they got cancelled, because of the backlash they were getting from the first 2 movies I think? Idk the reason for sure, but they did get cancelled
I actually liked the casting for Annabeth. Haven't watched the movies in years but from what I remember, her attitude was right and her eyes definitely give Athena/demigod vibes
