Wasn't it done before with Matthew McConaughey and Sarah Jessica Parker? Same plot. Only they do end up together. Parents secretly hired her because they wanted him out of their house. He finds out but keeps silent until dinner with all of them, just like here. Anyway, it's kinda the same plot, same movie. That one is called Failure to Launch.

It’s shown earlier that the parents called Maddie to offer her the car because Percy didn’t want to go away to college because he wanted to stay to be with her. While on the phone Percy hears them talking and Maddie asks since they are giving her the car if she has to continue to date him.

since no one else seems to want to answer lol, he found out that Maddie (his “gf”) lied to him about her age and was actually hired by his parents (the other people at the table) to get with him so he could have a girlfriend before college. So now he’s being passive aggressive at dinner and took the car (which was Maddie’s payment from the parents) and destroyed it
