My grandpa used to sing this to my grandmother and no matter where they were even driving he would pull over and drag her out of the car to dance. He used to sing it to her with such conviction he loved her more than life. He passed on in 2013 and grandma is now very sick and on her way out. I came here to listen to this to remind myself when it’s her time to cross over he will be there probably with the real Percy singing and dancing. I need to listen to this to remind myself she’s going to be in a better place with her love. Life can be so heartbreaking sometimes
Sorry for your loss my friend, just remember your wife still lives on with you in your heart she is smiling you. PEACE AND LOVE TO YOU ALL MY FRIEND'S. ✌️😎🏴
One of the tunes my ex recorded for me. I still play it after and each time i listen to it, i get goose. Iconic song indeed. You don't get this stuff these days.
Thank you, mom, for the wisdom you gave me! And, my love for music like this! It all seems like yesterday! Now, I'm older than you when you passed!😢 I only hope and pray I passed on the same wisdom to my children!❤
My younger brother loved this song!!! every now and again,i will play it for old times sake!!! he was killed in Vietnam at 19 yrs old while serving in the Marines in 1969--Heres to you Darrel!!
It's really a shame how this man - arguably the greatest *natural tenor* soul balladeer of all time - was so underrated by his peers. No Grammy (not even a nomination) no Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The only known singer to attend his funeral was Dorothy Moore. RIP Percy. You will always be a legend to your fans.
Percy made this song one Friday night after him and his woman had broken 💔 up and he use to sing at house parties and when he got to the party he was sad of course and didn't want to sing so they finally convinced him and he got up there and he said these words came out of his mouth and heart ❤️
THIS IS SINGING! No autotune, no special effects, no assistance to vocals whatsoever and he did it "LIVE" as well. They don't make'em like him anymore. What a heavenly talent and might I say the most underrated singer of his era. RIP Percy, you gave of one of the most iconic songs of all time. Thank You!
@@LilFran379 Can't even call the current crop "entertainers". Doowop artists, they were entertainers, Little Richard, he's an entertainer, Chuck Berry, he's an entertainer, the Rolling Stones, they are entertainers. No one knows how to do it anymore. They lack both the skill and the soul to truly entertain.
I’m 27 and i’ma straight rap lover but I always had a old soul as my mama would say😅‼️ And when I was a teenager he was one of my favorite singers and he had a concert at the peanut festival back in my home town in southeast Alabama I was 16 then and it was the first concert I had ever been to with my mom and aunt and when he performed this song 🌬️😩😩‼️ this man’s voice was so riveting and unique it brought people in the crowd to tears im so glad I had the chance to experience it in person Rest In Peace Mr. Sledge🙏🕊️🕊️
Simple music can make you sing simple hug can make you feel better simple things can make you happy, i hope my simple Hello brings smile to your face ,,
My ex-wife's uncle is the one who does the whistling part on the song, " Sitting On The Dock Of The Bay ", because Otis Redding crashed his plane before the song was finished. Her uncles name is Lee Roy Hadley, formerly from Raceland,LA, now residing in Atlanta, GA.
I just found out the Percy died, is that lately? He was one of the best, as a little girl I remember my mom singing this song! brings back memeories, which if she was here....RIP to both
Love still exists. I fell in love twice this year. One is still unfolding while I am not sure about the other. Love can be hard to find at any age. It took me most of my life. As the great Van Morrison wrote in The Beauty of the Days Gone By---when the heart is awake, is open, when it FEELS the beauty, then you can fall in love with another person and they will want to love you. OK, it's mumbo jumbo for you need to be ready for to fall in love.
This was my Momma and Daddy's song. My daddy passed away in 1995. But mom still listens to this song from time to time. May the memories of my daddy never be forgotten.
God bless America praying for all of us going through this storm Iliminati delusion GAME being played out before the Lords return God bless America praying for all of us!
Michael Bolton sang this song to perfection, hitting all the high notes n everything. But one thing he lacked is what you are hearing right now, that tear jerking soul, which Percy Sledge had. Nobody can sing this song like Percy Sledge.
This song was released when I was a Marine at Camp Pendelton. I will forever remember that soulful sound echoing through the barracks on the weekends. I was so lost and alone at that time, newly married and on my way to Vietnam.
This has been one of my all time favorite songs. I am a music nut and I'm here at 67 years old to testify, they just don't make them this good anymore. June 2023. Still kicking, waiting to go home.
@@qubie83 Just make sure you do and say the right things, because when you land in the home of Paradise, you will never want to return here because you will live on forever with the Lord Jesus Christ and the Angels.
The love of my life dedicated this song to me as he swirled me around in our living room holding me like a man should when he loves you that much. I love you baby
Percy Sledge... My, my, my... I'm 35 and this brings back many, many memories of my Mom. We would sit outside on the front porch In the summer when I was a kid and she would put the speakers of the radio In the window and we listened to Percy Sledge along with our neighbors. Thank God my mom and step-dad had great taste In music.
Today is my late dad birthday. growing up my dad would often sing this song to my mom! Happy Birthday Dad and thank you God for the BEST dad ( and mom) !
As a former vocalist in a band, I can appreciate and respect how consistent his vocals are... it sounds like a recording. He is also giving his all and not half assing the lyrics. You don't really see artists these days that are able to pull that off.
This is one of my favorite songs, it has a lot of meaning to it...... When you love a woman you'll do anything to show her you love her, no matter the cost......I know trust me..... Been there done that......
That's right. I was listening to it earlier today, it bought back a lot of memories and now I'm here again. Never getting tired of listening and might not forever, lol😂 What part of the World are you listening from?
Grew up around his music. My momma and grandparents loved Percy’s music. I love his music. True legend in his own rights. God bless sir. R.I.P. Mr. Percy Sledge
I was only twelve years old when I got this as a christmas present and I can´t remember that I have been so happy for any gift since that time. Now I`m 70 years old. Excuse for bad English.😍
On my 50th birthday, with a surprise party for me. Everyone got up to dance to this Great Song,,, it's been many years now and I Still Love It! .... Classic!!
This song is evergreen. Am still playing it today. Some songs never die. Amazing It seems you have been listening to his songs for long. What country are you listening from??
I’m 33 so I in my teens it was the late 90’s early 2000’s. Never heard this music til I was over 25. Man this is what real music is, I love everything but hearing music with such passion like this! It somehow touched your soul, you feel it when you hear, back when music had meaning.
@@ekdaufin1485 exactly not the best tones but raw pain wisdom is the result of pain, suffering and tribulations love is a cousin to wisdom and if you can not love others, someone else then you can not truly understand love nore truly love yourself. IMHO
I saw him a number of years ago and he was still beyond wonderful! Naturally, he was a lot older than in this video and gained a few pounds but the performance he put on was unforgettable - especially when he sang When A Man Love a Woman. He never got the credit he deserved and worst of all, he got no royalties from this song.
@@mikeupshaw2087 My understanding is that he did write the song, when he finished it, he received some 'final touches' help from some friends. When all was done, Percy gave FULL writing credits to his friends who helped him. SUCH CLASS! The songwriters are the ones who receive royalties ad infinitum. That says a lot about Percy Sledge.
The royalties went to the writers as it should have. Percy made his money on the road and the writers got none of that $$, That was the deal back then..
Simple music can make you sing simple hug can make you feel better simple things can make you happy, i hope my simple Hello brings smile to your face ,,
It doesn't get any better than this, the days there was natural talent, heart and soul!💞 Hard to believe 1966 was a long time ago, it all seems like yesterday!😢 To all those amazing memories, and days we thought would last forever!❤
Michael Bolton is probably the one who made this song worldwide famous but Percy's, damn, you can hear the pain and emotion on his voice! He deserves the appreciation, it's a shame that he doesn't have a star in Hollywood walk of fame. RIP Legend
@fabiosd6016 Yes, he really is at family reunion. My uncle ( RIP) would get up and talk about our family history. Percy is a historical figure around here in all old Muscle Shoals Al
I was fan of Percy since I heard this song. I was happy to have met him in 2009. He's such a nice man. And everyone knew how much he loved Rosa. I met her also. Both died in 2015.
I love this song with all my heart ❤. It reminds me of my hubby who passed away 6th April 2021 suddenly 💔. This song perfectly describes his personality ❤❤❤
idk what woman he had on his mind when he was singing this, but that's one lucky lady, or an unfortunate one for leaving him. such an emotional, beautiful performance - the original is the best, long live Percy Sledge
Simple music can make you sing simple hug can make you feel better simple things can make you happy, i hope my simple Hello brings smile to your face ,,
That's the right word to describe this song. It's just to perfect. This is a really beautiful song, so magically woven together. It's nice to meet you. If you don't mind I would love us to be friends. I understand that we don't know each other before now but one thing I believe is that it takes only a minute to accept friendship and that's why I have asked to accept my request of friendship. It would be an honor, l'm looking forward to a good friendship between us. May I ask where you are from?
Percy Sledge will always be associated with the great soul singers. The fact that he has over five million views says a lot. I love this song. Mr. Sledge sings it the way it is supposed to be sung.
@@maxwellklaus7003 Doing well. I am rehearsing to get back into the recording studio soon. Check out my latest single on RU-vid, Max: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-VeP2dardrFc.html. Thanks for listening! Take care.
