I've been using the Track E for almost 2 years and i LOVE it! One quick clarification, you can't monitor your audio while recording, only when powered on and not recording. You can also easily sync your GoPro with Tentacle using the Track E. That's the setup I use and it works flawlessly and takes less than a minute to get synced. Once you get a taste of 32-bit float recording, it's impossible to go back to 24-bit.

The audio monitoring doesn’t work in the US as far as I know because of some patent they can’t get around. In the rest of the world you can still monitor while recording - I forgot to mention that!! 🤷‍♂️

Well now, welcome to my porch. It's a pleasant day here in the little town of Lensville, and old Grandpa Jenkins, that's me, is rocking gently in his chair with golden Bessie at his feet, both of us watching the sun dip below the mountains. Bessie’s wise eyes follow the flickering fireflies as I sip ice-cold lemonade, it's sweet tartness a bright burst against the languid summer evening. Ah, this does remind me of a tale, a tale from yesteryears. You see, there was this man, Bill. Now, Bill wasn't just any man. In the 1970s, he wore a uniform, a shiny badge, a hat sitting just so upon his head, and he patrolled the busy, bustling city streets as a police officer. Dealing with all sorts, all kinds of chaos, all kinds of folks, crazier than a raccoon in a tin can. But you see, Bill was a bird of a different feather. He craved for the serenity that the city lacked, a solitude far from the maddening crowd. Every off day he had, he'd escape to a place. It wasn’t any place, mind you, but a secret haven nestled deep in the mountains outside of Lensville. The route to his hideaway was an old logging road, half swallowed by time and nature, a path forgotten on dusty old topographical maps. Now that spot, oh, it was a beauty untouched by man's hands, where the river had been an artist, sculpting a deep gorge over eons. It left behind fantastic rock formations, a testament to the relentless force of water over seemingly infinite timescales. Large balconies were hewn out of the stone, overhangs under which Bill would tuck himself for a day of fishing. As the night fell, the world came alive with the ancient symphony of cicadas, katydids, and frogs. The choir was so overwhelming that it drowned the night, enveloping Bill in a cocoon of timeless nature, a link to an epoch millions of years old. It was like being immersed in a vast, dynamic ocean of sound, an experience akin to, well... imagine drifting in the colorful nebulae of cosmic space. Not a scrap of hallucinogenic influence in sight, mind you, but a trip down the mind's winding pathways nonetheless. Speaking of sound, it reminds me of something. You see, nowadays we have these fancy gadgets like the Tentacle Sync Track E, a thingamajig that records sound so good you'd swear you're right there. This gizmo, it features something called 32-bit float and time code, words that might as well be alien to this old man. But I've heard it'll never let your audio clip. Now, I ain't one to understand all the modern technology, but I reckon that means it keeps the sound as pure and clear as a mountain brook. So there he was, Bill and his trusty fishing rod, the campfire reflecting in his eyes, the flickering flames dancing off his features, highlighting the determination that made him a man of the law. And back here, Bessie, her golden fur shimmering under the setting sun, the age in her eyes belying the puppy-like wonder she held for the world. Bill's wilderness, his sanctuary, it was a place where he could sync with nature, to borrow a term from that Tentacle gadget. A place where the rhythm of the wild sang a lullaby to the weary soul, a song carried on the air, through the rustling leaves, in the rushing river. It was in these moments that Bill found his connection, his peace, a resonation that echoed the pure sounds of life before the internet, cell phones, and all those distractions that clutter our world today. So, if you were to ask old Bill about that Tentacle Sync gadget, he'd likely chuckle. "Well, it's impressive," he'd say, "but can it capture the symphony of the wild that once serenaded a lone man on his days off, in a forgotten corner of the mountains outside Lensville?" Ah, I reckon that’s a story for another day.

Running that stellar Tascam Portacapture X8, that thing is fantastical in all the magical ways. A full studio at home and in the field including full on 32 bit float and some decent mics as well. A really good companion for any camera with all the protections. I typically just use the camera out port to go direct to the camera and that's it.

This is great. I have the Zoom F3, which is a field recorder that records 32-bit from one/two XLR mics. It's fantastic and easy to use. So, the Tentacle Sync Track E with a lav mic would be a perfect addition to my gear. Interestingly enough, the Zoom F3 is also $349. The beauty of recording in 32-bit is that you don't have to worry about setting your levels ahead of time. Even if you record too low, you can increase it in post without distortion. And recording "too loud" can also be adjust in post without any clipping. It would be interesting if Tentacle can make a wireless / two transmitter system with 32-bit recording. It would be a great system to have. Thanks for the affiliate link. I'll be sure to use it for my Tentacle. (I've always wanted to be an octopus.) (EDIT: I wrote this while watching, so of course I repeat stuff you said. DOH!)

It's not really possible to have a 32bit radio mic transmitter because the compander on a transmitter would limit this.

Is it the preamp or the lav that sounds dull? Some highs missing. Otherwise 32 bit is indeed a treat, especially with storage being so cheap now, especially for audio.
@MarkBennettCameraCrisis
@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Год назад
I prefer the bassy audio as opposed to the bright sound that a lot of mics produce. You can adjust it easily in post of course - but I like the sound of my nasally voice through stuff like this
@StirfriedGerman
@StirfriedGerman Год назад
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Yes, it's easy to reduce highs in post, but usually you'll add hiss when trying to boost. For your voice I'd look for a little bump in both bass and and treble, also achievable with a little mids cut using a parametric EQ in post. You first boost mids with a narrow Q and adjust the frequency (800-1500Hz for the usual nose) until the nose really stands out, adjust the width (Q) and drop the mid gain until desired denosing is achieved
@StirfriedGerman
@StirfriedGerman Год назад
Oh, if you use any type of VST plugin, you can usually save the result to a preset. So you only need one per mic setup.

I bought the Zoom F3 BT (32 bit) and I'm quite sorry about it. The sound quality is good but the operation is just terrible. Two days of filming were ruined because of the stupid operation. Since then, I have been recording continuously and receiving a sound file of several hours and it has to be synched with dozens of short video segments of seconds... what a nightmare.
@MarkBennettCameraCrisis
@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Год назад
Yes - that can be a nightmare for sure. Which is why the time code is so vital when recoding with one of these. If all devices had time code synced - you wouldn't have had to match any clips.
