My mom's Jamaican and she used to do this to my hair to let it dry. Then she would cornrow my hair for the week. One time she didn't have time to do my hair and I had to go outside with the china bumps. All the kids started teasing me and calling me porcupine head🦔 lol. And now I live to see it turn into a fashionable style. Right now as I type I have my hair in my china bumps and I have a very good blow dryer but going to give it a break and go back to the old school way! And if I have to go out no problem I can wear it as a style.
I actually liked the knots before she took them loose. The design was very attractive. Her hair is also pretty after loosening the knots. Either way, she looks really cute.
When I do any twist out I use my leave in conditioner mixed with Jamaican Black Castor Oil. I only use eco styler for flat styles that won’t be disturbed, such as a slicked down ponytail, as disturbance breaks the seal and this shows up as white residue. When using any leave in conditioner and oil you twist out the knots as usual and you will get the same result as using gel. You can also use curl custards instead of the leave in conditioner. I loved the video and love Bantu knots. It’s amazing how evolution has given us such versatile hair which we can style in so many different ways. Natural hair is awesome and when cared for and styled right it’s beautiful. Well done ✊🏾
I love the Bantu knot out! To prevent residue, I don’t use gel of any kind. After shampooing and deep conditioning, I lather the hair with a custard (leave-in detangle conditioner with Shea butter and olive oil). Next, I section the hair in Bantu knots and unravel the hair after 24hrs. Some gels also dry the hair, but that’s just my recommendation.
The style turned out really nice. I never thought of mixing the gel with the leave in conditioner. Maybe I’ll try that for a wash & go. For my Bantu knots, I follow the LCO method. I use 3 products. L = Shea moisture curl and hibiscus leave in conditioner, C = Cantu Shea butter leave in and my O = (any light oil of your choice) Sweet Almond Oil. You will usually have white residue leftover, but like someone else commented use oil and that’ll take care of the residue.
Awesome video! She is so beautiful 🥰 I'm thinking of doing bantu knots and having them in for awhile while I travel, just didn't know how to do them. Thank you!!!!
Yes, my mum used to do this on my hair after washing. She is also a Jamaican, and we called them chiney bumps, too. Its actually a good protective style and I can still wear my wig when I want to.
Great job! SUGGESTION to avoid residue: after wash, add a leave-in conditioner separately, working it in fully. THEN use curl activator gel (a little goes a LONG way) and add another gel that has a hold to it then twist. Lusters activator curl gel is VERY moisturizing. Try it, i think u will LOVE the results!😃
The residue is because the products you used together. You should do the mix test on your hand before applying and if it clumps, that means it will clump on the hair.
Always test the combination of the gel and whatever product on the back of ur hand first. It will let u know if the two work good together or not. If it start to curdle or clump then it's not a good combination. Also maybe use less product and add water as u go along. 🤷🏾♀️
I loved his video and I actually did this to my hair. it didn't / turn out as pretty as hers however I do use the Eco gel black castor oil and flaxseed and I did not have any white residue. I mixed it with dark and lovely defining creme glaze. and I didn't make the Bantu knots as small as you did. I am going to try it again on freshly washed hair.
I use design essential styling foam. It really works well for twist and Bantu knots,. It leaves no residue. Leaves the hair very very soft… it holds up very nice. You can use the avocado, cilantro, hydrating butter it gives the hair shine. I also use the hydrating butter on first and then put styling foam it works very well You get excellent results🔥🔥🔥🔥
It still came out defined and pretty! Yea that eco styler gel sucks! 😭😂 That's why i stopped using it on my 4c hair. After that first use i was done!!! Use a moisturizing butter cream. 😊
The hair is looking really good, it’s just you have to know which gels mixed with what creams. Just do a test if the gel and cream clumps it’s not a good mix must look creamy
Que maravilhosa, gente olha o sorriso dela, fiquei encantada, não só o cabelo estava maravilhoso, mas todo o contraste do rosto, e o sorriso estava radiante. Linda de mais👌😻🥰❤❤
I use to wear my hair in those small bantu knots and it was super cute. What used, a small amount of leave in conditioner , castor oil and bees wax and lits of water and it comes out very good wothout the white residue. I also use cream of nature hairdress.
I’m also a hairstylist/cosmetologist. I really like the line “Jamaican Mango & Lime”. I’ve used it for over 6 years and my hair has grown like NEVER b4! Starting from about 2 inches to down my back with this line. Not everything work the same for everyone. Good luck. Btw I hv very similar hair, only thicker! 😔
This is exactly what I am looking for. Use Rice water ,mouse and a leave in conditioner. If it turns white then spray more water and mouse the leave in conditioner is already in the strains. Continue the process that eliminate the white residue and Result absolute beauty,🥰
Mix your products together in your hand to see if it mixes well. Oil helps break that down. It may have been the leave in or just too much product used so it caused build up
Comb hair at the bottom don't pull comb till the top of hair to remove scalp in case if you don't want wrap head after oil application for hair shinning, is just advice.
Yes really nice looking. Well done. Either with the knots or lose, it look so great. I did locks and twists before with leave in conditioner, & hair cream by African Pride called Twist & Loc Smoothie and it came out really good with no white flakes or stains. And it last long. Anyway thanks for sharing your skills and ideas
I use As I am twist cream. You only need to use a little bit and spray water on each part of the hair. Just make sure her hair is damp but not really wet and don't do it on dry hair because it will not come out correctly.
I use the Shea Moisture Repair and Restore Shampoo, conditioner and leave in conditioner. I also use Lottabody styling products and Let's Jam Extra hold conditioning styling gel with the orange top. I would never use any type of Eco gel on my hair. It's the white residue monster on my hair and mine texture is exactly like hers. Sometimes, I a)so use Blue Magic Castor oil grease with light bluish label and the Let's Jam gel for styling. I have to have moisturizing products to get a comb through my hair without shredding it off.
At times it's really hard to find a product that goes with the type of hair you have. At times it's better to test things to see if the product had a positive or negative effect.
Eco gel always leaves residue for me, I stopped using it because I couldn’t find a way to get rid of the residue, perhaps working on wet hair would lessen the residue too
