Lived and worked in Praha from 95-97, loved it there. Prices then were amazing cheap for someone coming from Canada. Went back for the first time in 2019 for the first time since 99, city/country had changed massively. English is now the 2nd language in place of German and Russian. The locals loved hearing me speak my Czech, many thought I was an old Czech who had left the country in past and was returning home for a visit. The city, country, people hold a ver special place in my heart. I had the pleasure (luck) of meeting Havel in February of 96 at an event at the Rudolfinium hosted by the Canadian Embassy. Ahoj from Kanada!
You experienced the best times in Prague, after the revolution when everybody was doing what they wanted, creative, free, still kind and fun, mainly locals and those that came to teach English etc. Lovely times. Would go back to those times right away.
What an amazing time to live there. I envy you. I had the privilege to visit shortly in mid 1993 or 1994 while the two new countries still had the same currency bills differentiated by a sticker attched to the Slovakian ones. In Praha, there was not a billboard or public advertisement to be seen. Had some gasoline-tasting Absinth in the Bunkr "club" and met a fantastic Canadian at a hostel. Still in touch via socials to this day.
@@berus66 And it was mainly time of absolute freedom, I remember 90s only as a little kid, but I still miss that time around 2000 where there was no censoreship, we had absolute freedom and everything new was better than older one.
You are doing a fantastic job. Watching your videos and exploring Prague beyond the touristic places, Prague has become one of my favourite cities. I have been with my wife, by buddies and even solo with my to little boys aged 8 snd 10. prage worked every time. My kids love Prague and want to go back and they have travelled all over Europe. Thanks for all the tips and great videos. I recomend ypu to anyone just mentioning Prague.
The honest guide paperback book was a life saver when I visited a couple of years ago. I recommend anyone planning to visit, check the book out. Some free advertising for you guys haha
@@Coachiggs ah, crap. Sorry about that, had no idea it was out of print. I’ll be keeping my copy as a wee momento, but if you do find it, it is a wee gem.
We went to Praha winter 2022 and planned our 1 week visit 100% on Honest Guide! We watched the videos and made an extensive map of Praha based on the recommendations (and avoided the tourist traps and scams!). Kafe & hrnky was a highlight for sure. Sunny winter day, very relaxed, got to check out the mug-making workshops upstairs. We stayed on Bridge st at a hostel, and explored widely from there (on public transit, of course!). A couple GOOD surprises not on our Honest Guide list - the state museums - the Auto Technical and Agriculture, which are side-by-side - if you have children, these places would give a welcome affordable break from regular tourist activities.
So glad to see Mincovna and Roesel in this list, they are 2 of my absolute favorites in the tourist area (thanks to you guys for showing them in previous videos!) and despite having been to Prague many times now, I still like to do the tourist walk and often will go to Mincovna just to go eat without doing the tourist stuff just because its always SOOOO good!
Great to (finally 😊) see the pasta place with the small entrance, which I found by chance when I visited Prague. Back in 2012! Keep up the great videos guys!
I have been to Prague quite a few times now and I still like watching your videos and seeing new places I have walked past totally oblivious as to what is there. Was there in march to see a band from England called All My Thorns support the Czech band Stoleti XII at Palac Akropolis in Zizkov, it would be nice to see an episode on gig venues at some point. Also the classical music scene there. Palac Akropolis was great by the way. easy to get to on tram, great staff, very friendly and good venue. Back in Prague later this year. Can't wait. One day I will bump into Janek and Honza!.
Thank you for the video! Please do a video of activities to do during winter! We are going in November and are afraid that most the activities you recommend are not suitable for winter
If you ask me, this episode was perfect. I wanted to say "pity I can't use those recommendations", but that would be a lie of sorts, because we spent a week in Prague 2 months ago and your vids were priceless treasure trove of advice 😍
Janek and Honza, you have the best information. You helped us a lot in our first trip to Prague in December. Now we are planning our second for next Spring. Thank you. 🖖
Hello Mr honest guide I was in prague a few days ago and I really enjoyed it I went to a few places you recommended, but I couldn't stay away from some tourist traps
Also, your guides and advice make every trip to Prague pleasant and wonderful. Every two years, like today, I come to this country to attend an MLP-related convention at the near Krakov Centre. Every time either me or the "herd" know a place or two were to hang and have a nice meal and some cider or beer and the city is very much alive during the night as it is during the day. Thank you!
Awesome. 😎 Thanks for the great tour. My girlfriend and I are heading to Prague for 3 days in September. We want to avoid the tourist traps, and your videos are very helpful. Of, course, we want to visit the tourist sites, just not get taken advantage of.
Loved the video! We've been visiting central and European countries more and more the last couple of years and soon it will be the Czech Republic and Slovakias turn 👍
Last time I was in Prague was over 20 years ago. You made me want to visit your beautiful city again. Maybe after the high tourist season :) Greetings from your neighbor, Poland. Loooove your channel! Excellent work
We loved Prague, our experience was 90% an awesome experience thanks to your suggestions and videos. We definitely want to go back!!! hopefully next time I can spot you around!!
Great video! When I visited Prague in 2022, I brought your book (Honest Guide Prague) from Kafe Damu & got it stamped and signed by one of the Waiters at Grand Cafe Orient.
Prague boats are quite nice from my experience. Not too expensive when you buy the ticket on Slevomat in advance. You can have a rest from walking, see the buildings from a new perspective and get an audioguide in different languages with some nice information about each building
👋🏼 Small struggling Travel Channel here. I love your content, thanks for this great video! You inspire me to keep grinding my channel, maby one day I’ll grow as big as you 😢
Watching this in my hotel bed in Prague. Actually just parking through to hungry 6 from Germany, but we decided to take 2 nights break and visit the city for a day.
Just back from a 4 day break and absolutely loved Prague and made all the more enjoyable by the extremely helpful videos from Janek and the crew. Only hiccup was the bus from airport to the metro is no longer the 119, it looks to have been removed but the 59 worked perfectly. Wish the UK travel system was as good. Can't wait to return and do a slow walk from old town to the castle. We missed so much 😞
Could you do more videos similar to this as well as a video on hotel accommodations you might recommend? Coming to Prague later this year and cannot figure out where would be the best place to stay.
Hello honest guide! I’ve been following you since forever! I want to ask if you could do a video for muslims who don’t eat pork or drink alcohol what can we eat and drink in Prague? Thank you very much!
Thank you Sir! You are doing the Lord's work for those of us who wish to travel and do things, but our currency conversion rates don't leave big room for luxuries. As a Catholic, I would love to visit your beautiful churches. Greetings from South Africa!
Hello! Thank you guys so much for your honest guidance! :) I will be staying one night in Prague this September on my way back home, to Kyiv, and one night on my way back in October. Do you have recommendations on hotels in Old Town by chance? I would appreciate the elevator and luggage storage in the building)) Thanks!
I dont know if im right but the u kocoura 13:24 is kinda polish the street sign is most definitely U kocura is polish meaning (visiting) a cat And ser smażony frytki sos tatarski means grilled cheese fries tatar sauce
I'm looking at coming and bringing my friend who is almost blind , I'm wondering how easy is it getting around , from the airport into the city , how public transport is etc ?
What I really want to know, aside from all this, is where does bro get his bags and jackets?

Resist - there is this nice Sesame street clip, where Ian McKellen teaches Cookie-Monster the meaning of resist - you're even wearing a similar colored sweater ;-)
Question from someone who's been there but now going back with mom who has a mobility scooter.. what regulations if any when travelling around city is there for motorised scooters :) thanks ❤❤
We went to Pork's last year. My biggest issue with them was that their waiter tried to trick us into giving him a tip, by lying about how it is normal in Czezh Republic to tip. The food was good, but cannot recommend the place.
Janek said in Czech version of this video that people on their Instagram voted in a poll that they want them to release longer videos & that him and Honza will be doing more of them from now on. :)
I visited Prague in January and planned my trip basing on your recommendations, I guess I don't have to say that it was totally mesmerizing ;) Hope to come back one day, cheers!
Janek and Honza, i am coming to Prague in mid-July, 2024 with about 8,000 other PhD psychologists for the International Congress of Psychology . Your Honest Guide postings are a boon - bright, lively, informed commentary, voiced with clear, accessible English and inspiring joie de vivre. you have reduced my anxiety about visiting your charming city and given me and my colleagues the real stuff - i am so grateful! thanks, guys.
After visiting Prague 6 times in the last 2 years, I intend to actually move there, work there, and live there. I hope I can find the right job to pay my rent and enjoy the best city I've ever been to. It's so much more than the Old Town and the castle, it's everything about it! There is no better public transport anywhere, the locals don't bother you and are pleasently cold and minding their own business, and the most important thing for me - all the metal bands play there on their European tours.
"all the metal bands play there on their European tours" Not always, sometimes they skip Czechia or they play pretty far from Prague, like Rammstein in 2023, but they returned in 2024, so mostly you just wait another 1 or 2 years. I saw pretty much all those big bands several times, I don't even go to bands like Iron Maiden anymore, because I saw all of them several times. 😀
Pasta Fresca is SO GOOD! I've been to Prague 5 times and went there each time. And I'm still not done. Beautiful, very nice staff, very very good food.
I fully expected 420 to be a cannabis based restaurant. Also, I noticed you didn’t reference American Embassy also known as McDonalds on your tour. Nicely done video. We’ve made that walk several times and missed your recommendations. I guess we’ll have to return to visit them.
@@spiderpate7780 Not all people who smoke constantly google some nonsenses about weed culture, they just smoke it. 🙂 And people who don't smoke it can't know about some 420.
