This is gold and can’t be emphasized enough, given the hundreds of other videos recommending the tucked right armpit. Speed killer, consistency killer and great way to get stuck. Not to mention it’s ALOT more fun to loosen up those shoulders and whip it using your approach ! My personal swing thought to get this is “high hands” at top, and feeling those lats stretch upward. Great stuff Shawn!

I will never understand how you do not have more subscribers than you do. I have been watching you since the very beginning and can take what you say and your analogies and use them on my own. I am able to understand way more about the golf swing because you have simplified it in a way that makes sense to me. I have tried lessons and they say a lot of cool terms and throw a lot of drills at you, but nothing has been more easy for me to understand and utilize on the course than what you teach. The Arm Club unit and the throwing the club, all of it, just makes much more sense and is really easy to work with. I appreciate all of your hard work on these videos!

I have watched hundreds of YT Golf videos during the past 20 months since I started lessons. I am a USPTA certified tennis pro and aspire to become a golf instructor in a few years, so i practice daily and take lessons from multiple pros. This is one of the best instructional videos I have come across. Explaining that there are two pendulums, not one was a huge revelation for me. The analogies to baseball and tennis resonated with me. PS My first instructor had me do the headcover drill, LOL

Shawn, I have been in a year long slump, struggling to break 90 and not bothering to post scores. I have not seen anyone explain the swing as simply as you have in this video. In particular, the major takeaway for me was freeing up the right elbow as you would throwing a ball or many other athletic moves. I was keeping my right elbow tucked in as you mocked in the beginning of your video. Now my swing is much longer, and free flowing as I am making a much better turn back and through while not trying to HIT at that ball. I am no longer trying to guide the club but swinging towards my mid target as you demonstrate! The results were immediate as I am finally compressing the ball and getting 15 yards more with my irons and 25 with the driver! I truly appreciate your insight and the way you explain things in such a simple manner that is easy to understand and relate to. Thank you beyond words as I am enjoying golf again and confident that what I am doing is correct!

I get the best results imagining I'm making a full golf swing with my whole body. The key is feeling relaxed from shoulders to feet and particularly feeling powerless arms. I used to think I needed to anchor my feet and lower body and use the ground to swing the shoulders in the backswing and hips in the downswing. But I found that was restrictive and caused body tension that slowed me down and limited the swing arc. Your instructions and demonstrations confirm that.

I hope you read this comment. I stumbled across this video by accident. I was ALWAYS told to keep right arm tucked and I felt so stiff. I went to the range and tried this out and OH MY LORD it unlocked everything. It made me feel free. It made me destroy my previous distances and I was barely swinging. Every single thing clicked. Part of me is sad that the tucked elbow thing is given to every single student ever. I am young and felt so restricted by tucked elbow. Every single thing made me feel free and able. So thank you. This video needs like 100 million views lol. I cannot stress that anyone/everyone has to try this out. And thank you for speaking so clearly. The throwing the club thing made so much sense to me at the curtain.

I notice you don't keep your left arm perfectly straight and rigid in your backswing. I'm glad you point out the two-pendulum concept since I help people with their short game and they are so confused with what intuitively seems an easy swing, but they are just too tense, trying to guide the ball, it is a swing and it don't mean a thing, if you don't got that swing. You have been doing this forever helping golfers. Thanks. also, * you don't promote products.

Think of it this way, and maybe you are doing now.... IF you can hit the ground without a ball there, there is no reason you can't if a ball is there. Ererybody has their own "feels" that work for them, but I think one of the best is "feeling" as if you're swinging all the time, the ball is just in the way. This is the opposite of intentionally trying to hit/strike/compress the ball. It's a mindset, and not recognizing this keeps almost all players from getting their real swings to be as good as their practice swings. You probably dont want advice from a stranger, but this one really helped me 15 years ago. Never looked back.

You often compare the golf swing to other sports / movements and almost all of them have a thicker handle. So on one hand I would think you would approve of the larger grips. However, I know you also have done extensive videos on grips and where the clubs should rest in your hands / fingers. Just curious what you think.

Hi Shawn, amazing video - swinging throught the ball to an intermediate point vs swinging at the ball has changed my perception of the downsing, and really helped the transition from hitting a 9 iron to woods off the fairway with the same confidence. Still lots to practice to register this but I wanted to ask - my 7 iron goes about 155 total, any specific videos you would recommend from youtube and your premium channel to push this carry up? I'm 25 years old I would also like to understand more on the right elbow (I am a right handed golfer) - your elbow seems to be very free but most coaches call this a chicken wing elbow (although this feels more natural) - I feel I have more leverage over the ball and can use my elbow to push down if it is a "chicken wing" but have been told otherwise - would love to hear your thoughts.
@golflessons
@golflessons 3 месяца назад
To call that a chicken wing and a defective move is COMPLETE NONSENSE AND A SIN!! Like telling god he gave you a defective machine! 🙄🙄 Look at the elbow action in a baseball throw or cricket or tennis serve! How free is the arm and see how the elbow LEADS THE HAND? The head of the humorous, upper arm shoulder socket, is what creates this and for you to tuck that elbow turns you into T-REX and literally renders you without your inner athlete. SAD SAD SAD what is going on to this day in golf instruction; I have another video coming out today on other ridiculous aspects of what is being taught at large. See the “throwing series”, the “kinetic chain series”, the “kinetic chain facilitation and engagement series”, “backswing levitation”, “garage door drill” all on our premium channel; and on youtube, see “throwing the club straight Shawn clement” to do it safely, and all the “throwing the club videos”

The right edge of the intermediate point; see “pulling shots left shawn clement” and on our premium channel, the most essential video ever is “alignment reload” which deals with the very particular distorted way humans perceive things from the side.

Hey Joe! This is because I am hitting a draw; and to do that properly, I need to start the ball to the right of the target so it can draw back to the target; there are no straight balls in golf and if there are, they are done by luck or mistake because for the last 8 years with my GC Quad, I have seen 0 sidespin and 0.0 push pull about 3 times with all of my students including tour pros and our teams. We are circle making machines as humans. For much more info on this, see WISDOM IN GOLF PREMIUM.COM and watch the “working the ball”, “alignment reload” (massively important game changing video), draw fine tuning, fade fine tuning and “arc blur unstoppable momentum series” and if you are just starting with us and want to get a much better understanding of how we, as human machines should swing a club (powerful and effortless) see “wisdom in golf 2.0”

Keeping trail arm tucked in (with golf cover under trail arm) is critical for the takeaway portion of the backswing. It is a fact that the number one fault of the takeaway is the lack of connection (trail arm not tucked in) between the upper trail arm and the side of the body. The idea of a golf cover is an excellent one for the takeaway portion of the backswing. By introducing a gap in the takeaway between the trail arm and the body as you would recommend, leads inevitably to an early fold of the trail arm. This in turn ensures the club head rolling inside the hands during the takeaway portion of the backswing from which it will become very difficult if not impossible to recover. A very bad position form which to complete the rest of the backswing. A sure recipe for disaster. So for the takeaway portion of the backswing, yes by all means use a golf cover to keep the trail arm tucked in but not after that. It is inconceivable and a buffoonish suggestion that anyone could possibly recommend keeping the golf cover in place for the rest of the swing after the takeaway..
@golflessons
@golflessons 4 месяца назад
So when should it drop? Both upper arms are resting on the rib cage at address and they stay that way for the takeaway in our book; so still no need for the head cover…😎

Hey Shawn! Awesome vid, but have a question--- Ive always been curious of your finishing position. Its very unique--- watching Sav and Mu, I dont think they have that finish. It got me thinking-- I dont think I have seen any videos specifically about that finishing position where your club is across the line. Is that something just specific to your swing? I dont think I have seen anyone with that club position at the end of the swing before so I am curious about it

To me it looks like he’s adapted a swing that works for his current range of motion. His shoulder flexibility isn’t wide however he’s made it work since the important parts of the swing happens in front of his torso. His swing path looks much steeper than most instructors, looks to be about 60-65 degrees from the ground. He might have problems with a driver or long iron but I can be totally wrong.

There are a couple guys on tour that have this finish that swing very much like me; Arnold Palmer, Bubba Watson, Berhard Langer has this finish as well; my left handed swing does jot have this finish; more across the back like Savy; this helicopter finish we call it is to dissipate the excess momentum towards the target and is purely a self preserving reflex.

Shawn, your left wrist is cupped at the top of the backswing. I understand that this is not a problem to you, but I struggle squaring the face of the club if I don't flatten my left wrist. While practicing is not a big deal and I can handle it, but adding the pressure of a round I start making compensations and overthinking to avoid balls to the right as I still tend to hit over the top (strong grip, right-handed). For you this is not an issue because of your strong grip? Thank you so much for your tips.

It’s about width without the collapse; not about ridiculous muscular tension to suit an opinion or a theory! Just look at a baseball power hitter and see how they wait for the pitch; then look at how the anatomy of the arms straightens naturally on the downswing and loads up the leverage to deliver through to the target! PURPOSE is the key word; not rigid positions!

At the end talking about inward turning a bit its actually very easy to hit your target it’s called lateral motion without turning being a forced movement. If the turns are allowed to be a passive motion or byproduct of us properly throwing there is way more power involved vertically which supports lateral and rotational control. There isn’t a single professional on tour that adds extra elbow width and destroys their arm structure from shaft parallel to the top. This lesson is going to do more harm than good.

Sorry to hear that…lead arm reconnects naturally in the downswing when delivering through to the direction you want to start; the human kinetic chain is insanely amazing WHEN YOU GET OUT OF THE WAY AND STOP SECOND GUESSING IT; instruction is flawed badly because they assume you are defective and need to get fixed when the first order of the day is to find a target and establish a flight plan, then the set up is to match the flow of the swing to deliver through into that flight plan. Then determine what is preventing you from delivering into it. To make sure NOT to do something is insanity itself as it goes against how we are made.
