Great product. Have had one for more than 3 years. I also put a cord loop in the fitting just below the net tent door then fix this around the handle of the walking pole to tighten up

I don't know if it's on purpose but I have used a tree to hold it up so no pole and more romm. I've been pitching it in a similar shape to the triangular zelter shelter. This set up gives me a side door and is easier to get into. It's not a perfect pitch but I like it I also changed it with the serenity net tent. If you on zip the doors you can also use this as a tarp. I've been experimenting with pitches I am a big guy so getting in can be awkward for me but the space in side is satisfying. Where I'm at we have extremely harsh winters condensation is a big issue for me anytime with this tent. Hopefully I can try pitching it with the way you did in this video and get good air flow I noticed the red yellow gray blacks straps buckles at the the top can raise and lower the tent for ventilationOr or to get more coverage in the winter that freezing air in the Gap makes me close it up more but that's when the condensation gets worse so I'm practicing bed roll that I saw on a channel called grunt proof and basically you can roll it around you like a baby military poncho it's pretty cool stuff so that I can have more ventilation we also deal with enormous amounts of snow so I have noticed it sheds pretty well and it is difficult to have the steaks penetrate The Frozen ground for this I use snow pack with longer cords I added to the ends and also I fill bags plastic bags with snow and using his anchors and wrap them in snow just a tip for anybody and carry any cheap bag plastic bags and then they could be used for something else if you have to and then wait pretty much nothing to create an anchor or you could use sandbags which is extra weight. The fabric feels nice I dig the lightweight I dig how you can shorten the length of the cape or where as just a cape and it's easier to set up after much practice from me I took me a long time to learn honestly but if I set it up it's just a pure middle without the two front ends pulled and no inner it's not quite long enough to lay without pulling out one of those ends but the pyramid shape you can have it set up in a minute almost and I try to do the quickest setups I can because I try to practice in any conditions possible. Amongst the worst is when it is really windy I have noticed the wind is not forgiving with this tent I'm a weirdo when it comes to carrying shelter on my EDC at all times and something to lay on which I got the polycro sheets from you guys as well and I keep one of those folded up so I can take naps as I'm out and about. This shelter is really awesome and not to name drop with the zelter shelter but I dig both you guys a shelters and I have British heritage so it coming out of the UK's kind of fun. It's more breathable but it's not nearly as packable it is a huge tent and it is heavy but I love them both but I'm not going to be fit in the zelter shelter in my pocket LOL I love this tent and it's price point is not bad I also have elastic around tied to the guy out so I can wrap it around myself so the Pancho doesn't blow all over in the wind when I'm wearing it. And I added cheap little paracord buckles little ones to each tie out so I can easily connect each of the corners or disconnect I used color cord once it may be a little weird to have pink yellow and blue weird blues and but it the color combination really actually helps me line up the right side cuz there's nothing like thinking you have it set up right and it's all backwards inside and that's really bad when it is on the opposite side of zero. Drying out the tent is something that I need to work on my speed and efficacy with since there is condensation potentially sometimes it's something that I need to factor Great tech guys thank you for the video I'm going to look more into this and am I right about it being basically unzipped being a tarp in and of itself it says dark mode but they always show the doors on zipped in it and regular shape you could probably pull off a plow point configuration maybe even a frame or lean to shelter with this I also try to go minimalist with my setup focusing more on skill versus just good equipment some people might be annoyed by adding your own seam sealant to it not having it on I actually enjoyed the learning process of that myself. Am I right that this can be a multiple different types ways to wear it you could have it in Cape mode and then tuck everything under your shirt so you had a muscle shirt underneath the regular shirt and it wouldn't rub your skin too much you're probably make you sweat but you can probably tuck the hood in if you didn't want to wear it as Cape have it get caught on something this is truly a genius design I've looked into some of your backpacks I am intrigued by them I've kind of tampered with making my own poles I've vacillate on whether having a pole using a tree I don't like to rely on trees cuz I like to be able to set up in places that might not have trees plus deadfall is something I'm still trying to learn from widowmakers. Another interesting feature of this is that you can have the inner inside and unzip the main most of the main zipper the bigger one go through that with your head have your arms underneath and are you unzip the little for the back side the zipper and you can put your head through there and put your head through the poncho head hole I don't know if that's by design or if that's just me being creative but people say you can put it up when you're inside of it and that is a poncho thing. Like I was saying with the poles trekking pole I work in inches so centimeters is difficult for me but I think I do have markings on my holes and to be honest I'm kind of might cave in to getting your guys's tentpole and steaks I have plenty of steaks but I've used telescoping arms for tripods and different things to create my own telescoping tent poles thing is they don't have the same strength that the carbon fiber poles really would and the arbit heavier and all the moving parts can have water drain in and rust and it could probably freeze up in the winter so it's a a novel idea to take a telescoping miniature video Pole and use and I could carry it in my pocket so I'd have my whole tent structure and pieces with me like I said earlier I'm a little bit weird when it comes to some of this stuff but great job guys this is really cool

It's a good idea.... but what do you do if you're setting up the tent in the rain?
@TwoSoundsatOnce
@TwoSoundsatOnce Год назад
I believe it can be done I would probably keep it tight inside so it doesn't blow away from you and stake out your corners like your one corner and the corner across just loosely or where your bag on it and then stake out the proper corners. And maybe even having the tent inner connected up already or doing it after you got all set up because the idea like you said in the rain everything's going to get wet I have had problems with this but I think you can do it you just got to be very careful another thing about me is I usually curious to use as a makeshift bed or a makeshift caught I'm kind of in the bushcrafting a little bit when I say a little bit I'm learning a lot more stuff I haven't even heard of. I recommend this tent but with one consideration that you really know how to deal with condensation and win flow because having no condensation with foul freezing cold wind blowing in we'll just make you cold and you won't have water dropping on you but you'll be cold from the draft so there's got to be some kind of balance or having a secondary shelter option unfortunately when I say the secondary shelters and Pancho's and stuff it kind of goes against some Cardinal rules with ultralight backpacking communities. I say it as a personal preference it's not an absolute and I'm still learning a lot about this I left the comment earlier on the post if you want to read that and get some ideas it's so cool the things that you can do with this thing anyway happy kicking camping or whatever you do

I've used it and love it but in "cape mode" what do you do with all the dangling corners. Is there something your supposed to do with them? Wrap around the waist? Tuck into hip area? Everything I tried feels incorrect. And the coller trekingpole mount, what do you do with that? For a gatewood "cape" instruction video, you guys should have had suggestions for it in cape mode

@@stevehernandez4741 The Six Moon Designs website had some videos showing how to wear the cape when hiking to prevent it from flapping around (also videos showing how to set it up as a tent are out there on RU-vid). Mine has clips inside that can be used to "hold it closer" to your body. As for the coller trecking-pole mount: mine is removable and fits easily into a pocket (such as the one on the inside of the cape).

Hey @Richard Bucker : setting up any tent in the rain is a challenge. If you are not up to it, then either don't go when there is a chance of rain or look for another hobby.

I think the OP is referring to the multiple purpose design of the Gatewood, the idea that with it doubling as rainwear, i.e. one does not have a separate raincoat, only the Gatewood for rain and for shelter. Then if it's raining, at least if it's raining enough to matter, when it's time to set up camp, how does one simultaneously wear the cape for rain protection and also set it up as a shelter? Somewhere (I forget) years ago I read one hiker's description of a method for doing this, by starting the staking of the corners from the inside while still wearing it, getting the pole up from the inside, and then tweaking the setup from there. It sounded awkward, but might be worth some experimenting. Maybe the SMD folks could find someone to make a video?
